Its cultivation was initially
established in coastal
areas and spread towards
the interior and even in
northern areas.

3. Place of Origin
The origin of the
almond is located in
Asia. Currently, the
major almond
producers are the
United States and
Spain, followed by
Portugal and Italy.

4. Variety
The most successful and
commercial varieties that
are grown in our country
are Antoneta and Martha.
In Spain today almonds are
grown in over one hundred
varieties. However, there
are five higher qualities
whose name are:Marcona,
Largueta, Planeta,
Valencia and Mallorca.

5. Nutritional Value
Almonds comprise 93% of total fat.
Almonds have a high amount of vitamin E.
Almond nuts have the most fiber.
Almonds are an important source of minerals like
calcium.

6. BEST TIME
(for collecting and cultivating almonds)
The almond came from the temperate and desert areas of western
Asia. It is now cultivated in the warm and dry regions of the
Mediterranean basin.
- Flowering Period:
is between the
end of winter and
early spring.

-BITTER-ALMOND: is like the
sweet variety, but has different
composition. It is used to extract
essential oils.
- SWEET-ALMOND: dry, but also
fresh is excellent.

On the road from Málaga
to Almogía, there is a
mandatory stop at the
entrance of the village.
The vision of the almond
is only broken by the
presence of this small
white town. At the
entrance appears the
path of the Route of Santi
Petri, and when on the
road, breaks the Chapel
of the Three Crosses, the
bond between Alora,
Cártama and Almogía.
