The document summarizes research on older adults' engagement with contemporary visual art in galleries. Over 21 months, 43 participants aged 60-92 visited 3 contemporary art galleries in northeast England. The research examined how older adults understand and engage with contemporary art, and what psychosocial barriers prevent engagement. It discussed findings that education level influences arts engagement, and that art galleries may provide lifelong learning opportunities for older retired adults, with potential benefits for health and well-being.
Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character known for his skills in deduction, observation, and forensic science. He was created by British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and first appeared in publication in 1887. Holmes, who lives in London, works as a private detective and is known for his intellectual brilliance and clever trickery which he uses to solve difficult cases with his friend and biographer Dr. Watson.
This document discusses multiplicity and plurality in contemporary photographic art practices. It makes the following key points:
1) Some photographers create multi-layered images that explore memory, identity, and time through various perspectives in a single image. This reflects a philosophical view that plurality, rather than a single perspective, is appropriate for art given attention to cultural differences.
2) Theorists like Benjamin and Barthes discussed how the mechanical process of photography intervenes between artist and viewer in politically impactful ways. Contemporary digital techniques allow for combining multiple exposures and perspectives.
3) Artists discussed create works with multiple perspectives through techniques like overlaying images, subtly varying frames, and superimposing thousands of images to abstractly
Utah Code Camp talk explaining the ins and outs of getting started with freelancing.

Pressure is defined as force per unit area. It can be measured as absolute pressure with respect to a perfect vacuum or gauge pressure with respect to atmospheric pressure. Pressure increases linearly with depth or elevation in a fluid according to the equation Δp = γh, where γ is the specific weight of the fluid and h is the change in elevation. Manometers and pressure gauges can be used to measure pressure differences by using the fluid properties and elevations within the device.
The Silent Way approach emerged in response to the decline of audiolingualism. It is based on cognitive theories of language learning and emphasizes learner independence, discovery learning, and minimal teacher intervention. Key aspects include using colored rods and charts to teach vocabulary and grammar structures visually, the teacher remaining mostly silent, and learners developing self-correction abilities through problem-solving activities with their peers.

The document discusses responsive web design and cross-device UI design. It covers flexible grid-based layouts, flexible images and media, and use of media queries. Grid layouts are made flexible using relative units like percentages and ems instead of pixels. Images are made flexible by setting max-width to 100% so they scale with their containers. Media queries allow delivering different CSS based on screen width, enabling adaptive designs.
Responsive web design allows sites to adapt to different screen sizes and devices. Key techniques include using flexible layouts with relative units, media queries to apply styles conditionally, responsive images, and grid systems. The viewport meta tag controls scaling. Flexbox and grids help build flexible layout structures. Tables can be made responsive by scrolling or rearranging content for small screens. Mobile-first and content-focused approaches support responsive goals.

CSS3 Media Queries: Mobile Elixir or CSS Snake Oiljameswillweb
CSS Media Queries have received a justifiable amount of hype lately. However, do they really represent a new way to take your web content mobile or do they promise more than they deliver? In this session lynda.com senior author James Williamson breaks down media queries, how to use them, and where they belong in your mobile development medicine chest.
This document discusses creating adaptive layouts using CSS3 media queries. It defines the differences between adaptive and responsive design, with adaptive using predefined layouts for different screen sizes and responsive providing an optimal experience across devices. Key concepts for adaptive design are progressive enhancement and mobile-first. The document outlines main principles like flexible grid-based layouts, flexible media, and using media queries to apply CSS styles based on features like width, height, and orientation. It provides examples of media query syntax and supported media features.
Introduction to Responsive Web Design http://tinyurl.com/9ldo4c6
Includes a sample project built from scratch in Node.js using LESS available on Github
Responsive web design displays content clearly across all screen sizes using a consistent theme. It uses techniques like fluid grids, flexible images and CSS media queries to automatically adapt the layout depending on screen size. The benefits are that content is accessible on any device, it improves SEO by having one optimized site, and only needs to be designed once. Common technologies used are CSS media queries and JavaScript. The process involves designing mobile-first and scaling up, avoiding multiple scroll bars, and keeping a consistent look and feel across devices.
Adapting Content for Mobile Devices - tcworld 2017, Scott DeLoach, ClickStartScott DeLoach
The best practice for responsive design is to design the mobile version first and progressively enhance the content for tablet and desktop screens. In reality, we usually have thousands of
pages of documentation that has already been designed for desktop or even print display. So, we can't follow a "mobile first" approach.
In this workshop, I present best practices and real-world examples for redesigning tables, images, lists, and other types on content for mobile display. I also share best practices for rewriting content for mobile devices.

Responsive Web Design, as laid out by Ethan Marcotte, is about a whole lot more than just media queries. I look at the three elements of responsive web design, statistics about mobile web browsing, and offer tips on how to best design sites for responsiveness.
N.B.: Several slides are lifted wholesale from Bryan Rieger's excellent "Rethinking the Mobile Web" presentation, be sure to check it out!
Mike Hamilton presented on responsive design. He discussed the core components of responsive design including document structure, CSS, and media queries. He covered responsive design strategies and breaking content into grid elements. Hamilton also provided short term techniques like using div containers while planning long term responsive design. He emphasized best practices like studying responsive design standards and gaining CSS proficiency.
The document discusses how the future of web design is responsive design due to the rise of mobile users. It notes that mobile users will outnumber desktop users this year and mobile accounts for over half of traffic in Asia and Africa. This means web design needs to change to accommodate the many different mobile devices, screen sizes, and resolutions. Responsive design using frameworks like Foundation allows content to adapt to different contexts like devices, orientations, and more. The document advocates responsive prototyping to design for any device quickly and cut down on development time.
The document discusses web page design principles and elements. It provides examples of website builders like Adobe Dreamweaver, MS Publisher, Squarespace, Weebly and Wix that can be used to design web pages. The importance of websites for business is discussed, noting they can provide detailed company and product information to customers 24/7. Basic design principles covered include use of text, graphics, shapes, background, color, video/audio and links. Additional principles discussed are portable design, designing for low bandwidth, providing direction, accessibility, using white space, simplifying content, and regular testing. The document also discusses using templates and online WYSIWYG platforms like Wix, Weebly, Drupal and Word
Truth About Websites: Why Squarespace vs WordPress for Small BusinessComBridges
The document discusses and compares website platforms Squarespace and WordPress. It recommends Squarespace for small businesses for its elegant templates, ease of use, built-in responsive design, essential features, 24/7 support, and lack of maintenance requirements compared to WordPress. The key benefits highlighted are Squarespace's simple templates, intuitive interface that requires no coding knowledge, guaranteed responsive design for any device, inclusion of features most small businesses need, and free lifetime technical support.
This document discusses responsive web design (RWD) and its use of media queries and CSS to provide optimal viewing experiences across different devices. RWD uses fluid, proportional layouts and CSS media queries to automatically adjust the layout depending on screen size and orientation. The document provides examples of using media queries with CSS and Sass to target specific screen widths for layout adjustments. It also covers techniques for building responsive mobile web apps, such as viewport settings, touch optimizations, and preventing phone number detection.
Responsive Design Talk @ Toronto Dev Derby Marchthemystic_ca
The document discusses responsive web design and CSS media queries, including what responsive design is, how media queries allow styling content based on resolution and media type, and various resources for learning more about responsive design such as frameworks, tools, and articles on initial responsive design concepts. It also provides examples of media query syntax and how to play with responsive code.
[OReilly Superstream] Occupy the Space: A grassroots guide to engineering (an...Jason Yip
The typical problem in product engineering is not bad strategy, so much as “no strategy”. This leads to confusion, lack of motivation, and incoherent action. The next time you look for a strategy and find an empty space, instead of waiting for it to be filled, I will show you how to fill it in yourself. If you’re wrong, it forces a correction. If you’re right, it helps create focus. I’ll share how I’ve approached this in the past, both what works and lessons for what didn’t work so well.

Bram Verhoef, Head of Machine Learning at Axelera AI, presents the “How Axelera AI Uses Digital Compute-in-memory to Deliver Fast and Energy-efficient Computer Vision” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
As artificial intelligence inference transitions from cloud environments to edge locations, computer vision applications achieve heightened responsiveness, reliability and privacy. This migration, however, introduces the challenge of operating within the stringent confines of resource constraints typical at the edge, including small form factors, low energy budgets and diminished memory and computational capacities. Axelera AI addresses these challenges through an innovative approach of performing digital computations within memory itself. This technique facilitates the realization of high-performance, energy-efficient and cost-effective computer vision capabilities at the thin and thick edge, extending the frontier of what is achievable with current technologies.
In this presentation, Verhoef unveils his company’s pioneering chip technology and demonstrates its capacity to deliver exceptional frames-per-second performance across a range of standard computer vision networks typical of applications in security, surveillance and the industrial sector. This shows that advanced computer vision can be accessible and efficient, even at the very edge of our technological ecosystem.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...Alex Pruden
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?

Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.
