To whom it may concern,
In response to your search for Junior/Intermediate designer, I believe my experience in
the construction and design industry qualifies me for consideration. I am interested in
working with an architectural firm in the Los Angeles area to further develop my
experience.
I have acquired more than 12 years’ experience in the industry from Schematic design
through Construction Documents phases, Construction Administration as well as the ability
to coordinate consultants’ requirements and specifications of building materials and
building assemblies.
My recent experience with local projects and my graduate studies from an accredited
program have expanded my knowledge which is applicable to your requirements for the
position.
To further acquaint you with my background, I am attaching my resume, academic
portfolio and some samples of my design work.
Hoping you will consider my qualifications for this position. I look forward to meeting with
you and discuss my qualifications in more detail.
Sincerely,
Alfonso Duran

Recently completed my first professional Master of Architecture degree at the University of
Southern California, and was able to study with some of the best theorists and practitioners from
Los Angeles and from around the world.
Early in my career I developed an in depth-understanding of the systems and materials of the
built world. Projects varied widely, including a County fire station, a post office annex, schools,
and a U.S. Air Force fighter jet paint booth. I gained extensive experience in bidding, estimating,
schedules, shop drawings, as -builds, and close-outs while working for a General Contractor.
Few years later, I was working with an AIA Gold Medal firm in San Antonio, Texas, I coordinated
more than ten elementary school projects for local school district. Thisexperience gave me a
thorough understanding of the design process, production, and project administration, including
RFI and ASI, submittals and preparation of product specifications, civil and structural engineering
coordination, and mechanical and electrical physical requirements.
My strengths in coordinating projects, as well as preparing comprehensive analyses and
developing critical solutions for construction and scheduling, led me to Mexico to lead a multi
million dollar development for a state government in Mexico . The projects I was engaged with
included an 1800 seat open auditorium, a 20,000 sf library, a 40,000 sf Olympic sports facility, two
city theaters, a museum, and a three story office building, all successfully completed.
In 2009 I was invited to coordinate residential projects for a NY developer in The Los
Angeles area and since then I have been participating with developers and other
architects in collaboration on several projects locally.
You may be assured that I am a dedicated and passionate designer who is ready to initiate
a project in a professional manner with objectives and deadlines in place from the project outset.
Sincerely,
Alfonso Duran
