1. A word from Julia...
I joined the company in July and my mission is to promote the best
kept secret in the group travel market- Alfa Travel. I am responsible
for introducing new groups to our exclusive club. After years of
working in the Group Travel Industry, I’m really looking forward to
meeting and speaking with the Alfa Group Organisers, and
gathering new organisers into the Alfa fold. I live in Devon and I am
based at the Leisureplex Regina Hotel in Torquay. You can contact

Ongoing refurbishment and regular upgrades are key to the
ongoing high levels of customer satisfaction across the
Leisureplex Hotel Group. Recently awarded AA 3 stars our 21
hotels are renowned in the group travel market.
This year alone we have invested over £2.5M across the estate. Our
most exciting venture is the refurbishment and remodelling of the
New Beach Hotel in Great Yarmouth. This massive project involved
re-siting all of the public areas from the first to the ground floor,
installing a new lift and brand new kitchen. It also involved the
creation of 19 additional bedrooms on the first floor.
The ongoing improvements at The Queens Hotel in Blackpool will
be completed in Spring 2017. To date all but 28 of the 116 en-suite
bedrooms have been completely refurbished, and all of the
modernised bathrooms have walk in showers.
Other improvements across the group include new carpets,
furniture, TVs, and improved WIFI.
In July 2015 Alfa Travel and Leisureplex Hotels became an
employee owned company. The Alfa Leisureplex success story
began in Llandudno in 1984 when brothers Paul, Tony and Peter
Sawbridge purchased their first Leisureplex Hotel – The Hydro.
Alfa Travel was born in 1990 and our very first coach holiday was
to the Hydro Hotel. The last 26 years have seen enormous growth
for Alfa Travel from a regional operator in North West England and
North Wales into a national brand by developing additional
operating areas. First came the North East, then the South and
South East, closely followed by the Midlands and in 2016 our new
Yorkshire and Humberside area.
The transition to employee ownership, with the Sawbridge family
retaining 25% ownership, reflects the philosophy of partnership
working, which has always been the key to our success. Partnerships
with group travel organisers, with travel agents, with hoteliers, with
our staff, with coach operators and even with competitor tour
operators! Paul Sawbridge, Managing Director of the Alfa/
Leisureplex Group for over 25 years takes the position of Chairman,
and he commented that “It will secure the future of the business for
the benefit of staff and customers. As a family owned Company we
have always been able to take a long-term view and when the time
came for our family directors to retire we looked for an ownership
structure that would continue that outlook”.
