During my time as a Life Enrichment Manager at Sunrise Senior Living of Edgbaston I was able to
learnand adaptwithmy role considerably.The outlineof the role wastoeffectivelyrun andmanage
a person-centeredactivitiesgroupforpeople withthe earlystagesof dementia.Requirementsof the
role included working with team members across the community to identify, screen and assess
residents who may benefit from the programme, developing individual person centred plans for
each residentthatincludesgroup,clubandindividual activities, and facilitating the daily running of
the Terrace Club.
My role as a Life Enrichment Manager has allowed me to develop numerous qualities both
personallyandprofessionally.Buildingandmaintaining friendships with the Terrace Club residents
has helped me understand and appreciate how important quality dementia care is on every level.
My understanding of aspects such as dementia care, ISPs and care plans, care home policies,
activitiesandimportance of environmenthave developedwell overthe periodof myrole and taking
this experience and knowledge forward will help me significantly in any future roles I uptake.
Continuingtodevelopmy knowledge base issomethingI wantto succeedinachievingineveryrole I
step into and this role has certainly helped me achieve that.

Duringmy time at the Alzheimer’sSocietyIwas workingona project called ‘Birmingham Hearts and
Minds’whichwas a yearlongcouncil funded service forpeople worriedabouttheirmemoryor were
experiencing early stage dementia. Throughout the project I have held two positions which I have
expanded upon below.
◦ ACTIVITIES CO-ORDINATOR
My role would include duties such as booking various venues across Birmingham for the cafes to
take place and organise suitable activitysessions for the users of the cafes. I would also be on hand
at the cafes for any emotional or practical support the people with dementia may have had or to
answer any questions carers may have had.
◦ DEMENTIA ADVISER
My role as a dementia adviser has allowed me to expand my skills in a different area of work. The
role requires me to take referrals for people who may benefit from our services and be the first
pointof contact for themviatelephone.Ihave foundthe role tobe veryinterestingas with each call
youare posedwitha differentproblemorquestionandbeingthe firstpointof contactthat isable to
help and alleviate someone’s worries is something I take strong pride in doing.
