Have you ever heard of Tiny Forests and wondered how they might help improve your work environment? In this presentation, attendees will learn about the Miyawaki method of afforestation and how healthy forests work. This talk is for anyone who wants to improve the environments in which they live and work, including their software development projects. The intent of the session is to use the creation of Tiny Forests as an analogy to creating healthy software projects and allow attendees to be insightful regarding their project and its culture, become more self-aware, and think about actions that can be taken to improve their ecosystems.

Science communication a new frontier of researcher’s job - part 1Giovanni Mazzitelli
Presentazione al corso di architettura di Alghero sulla comunicazione della scienza e l'esperienza acquisita nella gestione di spazi pubblici per la comunicazione della scienza
Apropos is a collaborative search and learning activity (CLA) enabling educators and learners to seamlessly blend technology into their classroom lessons applying 21st century skills as defined by ATC21S, UNESCO, OECD, P21 and the European Commission. Built by Continuum Education in Santa Cruz, California, Apropos turns the Internet into a collaborative learning space.
With Apropos, educators engage learners with visually rich, problem based, standards aligned activities that inform assignments, augment lesson plans and make online inquiry simple and available on demand. Educational programs gain a collaborative activity tool that enlivens the curriculum and leverages education technology investments ranging from devices, platforms to specialty course tools.
Apropos incorporates collaborative search, discovery and curation of materials in any curriculum, supporting any learning standard, using its innovative and easily extended activities. Educators create their own prompts, choose from the instructional activities or modify the activities. Using any search engine, content repository or web site, learners and educators assign, find and incorporate Apropos on any device. Learners share, take notes, vote and comment on others' submissions directly within the activity.
Whether in the enterprise or local and state education agency (LEA & SEA), the Continuum Education team has been faced with poorly built, un-extensible solutions that often consider interoperability and standards compliance an after thought. Apropos has been built to be a “good citizen” within the learning ecosystem leveraging Learning Tools Interoperability, specifically LTI2, for baseline integration into various learning platforms. LTI offers a standard way of integrating Apropos, as a Tool Provider, with platforms as Tool Consumers. LTI allows Apropos to integrate with various virtual learning environments (VLEs) or directly between tools for sophisticated and complex learning interactions.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
