Energy Community: Yasuyuki Watanabe - Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)ENGIE Italia
This document discusses battery energy storage systems (BESS) for energy communities. It provides an overview of Hitachi Chemical, a major battery manufacturer, and their various battery technologies including long life lead-acid batteries, lithium-ion batteries, and lithium-ion capacitors. It also presents examples of energy storage systems used in smart city projects and factory energy management systems in Japan. The conclusion emphasizes that energy storage technologies must be selected based on the requirements and goals of each specific energy community project. Hitachi Chemical offers various technologies and can help determine the appropriate solutions.
High level explanation of smart grids and battery energy storage systemsMircea Gingu
The document discusses how battery energy storage systems can help improve the performance and reliability of electrical grids. It notes that batteries can provide regulation and spinning reserves to balance generation and load, help maintain power supply during outages, and allow utilities to better manage demand and reduce peak loads. This helps improve grid efficiency, lower costs, and delay investments in new infrastructure.
A brief overview of PV market globally and regionally is presented and how it has disrupted the current network business model. Energy Storage has become a necessity as penetration of PV in the current network increases and created challenging ramping issues as the daily load curves have changed to what is now popularly called “Duck” curves. The value of energy storage in the network is presented, clearly demonstrating that maximum value is realised at end users, commercial and residential. Battery storage is one of the most practical option. Commercial battery technologies are presented, followed by selected case studies.
Flinders Island Isolated Power System (IPS) Connect 2016 T MAHMOUD Western Powerjames hamilton
The energy industry is rapidly evolving to take advantage of renewable resources and Western Power is embracing new technologies that will improve service and reliability to our customers. New and improving technologies such as solar, wind, wave and most importantly batteries are changing the way we think about the delivery and storage of electricity. One of these developments is the microgrid, which is essentially a small scale power grid that can operate independently (in ‘island mode’) or connect with the main electrical grid – think of a small suburb, or estate, that shares electricity and the cost of the infrastructure. A microgrid needs to control the flow of electricity of low or medium voltage, but does not need connection to a centralised generation or transmission network. Western Power has trialled the world’s first microgrid project that combines wave energy, solar (photovoltaic) energy, a desalination plant, and energy storage that connects to our large electricity network.
Thair demonstrates extensive engineering experience focused on power systems planning and real-time operation. This includes experience in load, generation and microgrids grid connection, renewable energies, transmission networks planning and stability. This experience is supported by his academic research at the University of Tasmania and Edith Cowan University, including invitation to review international journals and conferences in the field of Energy Systems and Artificial Intelligence. Thair has previously held roles with Canegie Wave Energy and Deng Kai.

The Rise and Fall of Ponzi Schemes in America.pptxDiana Rose
Ponzi schemes, a notorious form of financial fraud, have plagued America’s investment landscape for decades. Named after Charles Ponzi, who orchestrated one of the most infamous schemes in the early 20th century, these fraudulent operations promise high returns with little or no risk, only to collapse and leave investors with significant losses. This article explores the nature of Ponzi schemes, notable cases in American history, their impact on victims, and measures to prevent falling prey to such scams.
Understanding Ponzi Schemes
A Ponzi scheme is an investment scam where returns are paid to earlier investors using the capital from newer investors, rather than from legitimate profit earned. The scheme relies on a constant influx of new investments to continue paying the promised returns. Eventually, when the flow of new money slows down or stops, the scheme collapses, leaving the majority of investors with substantial financial losses.
Historical Context: Charles Ponzi and His Legacy
Charles Ponzi is the namesake of this deceptive practice. In the 1920s, Ponzi promised investors in Boston a 50% return within 45 days or 100% return in 90 days through arbitrage of international reply coupons. Initially, he paid returns as promised, not from profits, but from the investments of new participants. When his scheme unraveled, it resulted in losses exceeding $20 million (equivalent to about $270 million today).
Notable American Ponzi Schemes
1. Bernie Madoff: Perhaps the most notorious Ponzi scheme in recent history, Bernie Madoff’s fraud involved $65 billion. Madoff, a well-respected figure in the financial industry, promised steady, high returns through a secretive investment strategy. His scheme lasted for decades before collapsing in 2008, devastating thousands of investors, including individuals, charities, and institutional clients.
2. Allen Stanford: Through his company, Stanford Financial Group, Allen Stanford orchestrated a $7 billion Ponzi scheme, luring investors with fraudulent certificates of deposit issued by his offshore bank. Stanford promised high returns and lavish lifestyle benefits to his investors, which ultimately led to a 110-year prison sentence for the financier in 2012.
3. Tom Petters: In a scheme that lasted more than a decade, Tom Petters ran a $3.65 billion Ponzi scheme, using his company, Petters Group Worldwide. He claimed to buy and sell consumer electronics, but in reality, he used new investments to pay off old debts and fund his extravagant lifestyle. Petters was convicted in 2009 and sentenced to 50 years in prison.
4. Eric Dalius and Saivian: Eric Dalius, a prominent figure behind Saivian, a cashback program promising high returns, is under scrutiny for allegedly orchestrating a Ponzi scheme. Saivian enticed investors with promises of up to 20% cash back on everyday purchases. However, investigations suggest that the returns were paid using new investments rather than legitimate profits. The collapse of Saivian l

and Gakushuin University. This approach enabled our virtual portfolio to outperform the market from
May/08 through Sep/08 by 20%
<Other ideas>

- Cyclicality analysis ~approx. ads 4years, construction machinery 7years, machine tools 13 years
- Research into the practices of Japanese wholesalers in industries such as meat, confectionaries, and
alcohol.
- Supply chain analysis
