Alaska's capital is Juneau. It was admitted to the union on January 3, 1959 and has a population of around 626,932 people. The current governor is Sean Parnell. Some of Alaska's symbols include the willow ptarmigan as the state bird, the Sitka spruce as the state tree, and the forget-me-not as the state flower. The three largest cities in Alaska are Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks. Alaska has several national parks, including Denali, Gates of the Arctic, Glacier Bay, Katmai, Kenai Fjords, Lake Clark, and Wrangell Saint Elias.
