The Ajanta Caves in India contain 32 caves carved into basalt rock cliffs over hundreds of years. The caves contain beautifully decorated walls and ceilings with colorful frescoes and paintings depicting religious and everyday scenes. Though created over 1500 years ago using only basic tools, the artistry and attention to detail of the unknown artists who created the caves, such as capturing realistic perspectives and expressions, was highly advanced for their time. The caves served as monasteries and temples and still impress visitors today with their timeless artistic works.
