A. “Controller-Pilot Data-Link Communications (CPDLC) is an air/ground data-link application operated at the Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre” (EUROCONTROL, 2015, n.p.).
1. Benefits of CPDLC are reduced voice-channel congestion, less chance of being misunderstood, less fatigue (EUROCONTROL, 2015, n.p.).
2. Voice communications, CPDLC offers a second, independent communication channel to controllers and pilots, reducing the strain on busy sector frequencies (EUROCONTROL, 2015, n.p.).
B. There are many messages that are exchanged by data link with the Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (EUROCONTROL, 2015, n.p.).
C. The Datalink Control and Display Unit (DCDU) is an interface for the CPDLC.
II. CPDLCwill create a safer environment to direct aircraft but there may be some negative effects.

RPAS and Manned Aircraft
Unmanned aerial vehicles and manned aircrafts are increasingly being used as vehicles to capture intelligence data for defense, state and civil applications. The aerial vehicles are equipped with technology to collect both video and sensor data which are communicated to a mission control center for further processing. In this presentation by Mr Ken Loving, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, to the Williams Foundation, the focus was upon the evolving capabilities of the unmanned segment of the air combat force.
The seminar focused on the way ahead with regard to air-land integration.
Air Force needs to be capable of delivering air and space power effects to support conventional and special operations in the land domain. Air Force’s Plan Jericho and Army’s Plan Beersheba need to align if there is to be a coordinated approach to integrating air base operations, air mobility, close air support, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) and rotary wing aviation. To date, little attention has been paid to the integration of technology across service lines, the development of integrated tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) and a coherent joint collective training program. Air Force and Army need to remediate existing deficiencies and implement a capability management process that leaves it postured to take advantage of the transformative nature of fifth generation technology. The seminar explored the art of the possible in future Air-Land operations.

Abstract In recent years flying by propelled wings, also called as Ornithopter, has been an area of interest because of its application to Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs). In the field of Defence and during the war of Iraq, a need for live surveillance within a close distance was felt, which lead to research of various techniques for live surveillance in the battle ground to provide the necessary intelligence to the troops in the line of action. These miniature vehicles seek to mimic small birds to achieve never before seen agility in flight. In order to better study the control of flapping wing flight we have researched and modelled a large scale ornithopter called the ‘Garuda’. The ‘Garuda’ is capable of carrying a microcontroller, sensor package and an on board surveillance camera to transmit live video feed to the receiver in real time. The design takes special care to optimize payload capacity, crash survivability, and field repair abilities. This model has applications in the field of defence spy surveillance over enemy territories without being detected or arousing suspicion. The process now requires weeks or months of advance notice to ensure a C-130 is available for the mandatory maintenance training. Air Force Headquarters, along with the Air Mobility Command and Air Education and Training Command, has partnered with contractor Mass Virtual to develop a virtual environment based on the C-130H Hercules and the C-130J Super Hercules.
