This two-day workshop in Almaty, Kazakhstan aimed to assess groundwater resources in the Pretashkent aquifer through the GGRETA project. The objectives were to discuss the project goals and methodology, evaluate data collection on hydrogeological, socioeconomic and environmental factors, and agree on further data gathering. Presentations were given on the project and Pretashkent case study. National experts then discussed data availability and gaps in areas like aquifer characteristics, climate, environment and socioeconomics. Participants worked to refine the methodology, structure data, and develop a work plan and tasks to complete a groundwater assessment for the Pretashkent aquifer.
