This document provides information about Deakin University's 2014 International Study Program taking place in Bangkok, Frankfurt, Berlin, Geneva, Paris, and London from January 14th to February 7th, 2014. It outlines the application process, eligibility requirements, academic leaders, program structure and costs. Students will study one or two units in Trimester 3 and receive academic instruction while overseas, visiting organizations and gaining international experience. The total estimated cost is $6,500 AUD and funding may be available for eligible students.

1. HOW TO APPLY
All Deakin students are eligible to submit an application
provided they meet pre-requisite requirements of the
units they wish to complete on the tour. Applicants from
universities other than Deakin are also encouraged.
Students will be selected based on their previous academic
performance and intended commitment to be a good
ambassador for Deakin overseas.
Applications must be submitted with a $1 000 deposit that
is payable to Reho Travel. Relevant refund policies and
important times lines for payment are included on the
application form.
Eligibility for OS Help loans requires certain criteria to be met.
Students must have completed 8 units of their degree studies
prior to the ISP and have a minimum of 2 units to complete
on their return to Deakin in 2014.
The Faculty of Business and Law provides a $500 grant to
Deakin students who have completed their application by the
due date.
Refund terms and conditions apply. The program is limited
to maximum 30 students. A minimum of 24 students is
required. Students will receive refunds for any program fees
paid to Reho travel if the Tour is not run due to insufficient
participants.

2. COME FLY WITH US
The School of Accounting, Economics and Finance, invites
you to ‘come fly with us’ from Frankfurt to Berlin as part
of an International Study Program. The program is open to
students from all universities and combines on-campus studies
in Trimester 3 in Melbourne followed by the travel/study
component overseas.
The Program departs in January 2014 for three weeks. The
itinerary includes formal visits through Asia and Europe, with
a series of guest presentations from partner universities,
financial institutions, corporations, government organisations
and regulators in major and developing financial centres.
Prior to commencing the overseas component, you will study
a minimum of one and up to two units from a choice of one
finance unit, one economics unit or a post-grad finance unit.
A further option is to undertake an intensive 2 week exchange
study program at Aarhus University (Denmark) in early January
2014 gaining 1 credit point. At the completion of that study
program you would join the ISP in Berlin.
In addition to undertaking formal studies in the three units
on offer, you will carry out research into the markets and
organisations to be visited. The intent is that you will be able
to approach the international organisations and financial
markets to be visited with confidence in your underlying
learning, and be prepared to extend your knowledge.
The program is designed to provide you with international
experiential learning that will provide an insight into different
peoples, cities, cultures and economic diversity that prevails
across international organisations and markets.
Deakin University encourages students to gain such
international experiences as part of their studies. You will find
this program is an exciting way to learn, travel and extend your
international knowledge.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
STUDY OPTIONS
Two undergraduate units and an equivalent postgraduate unit
are offered:
• MET303 International Trade
• MFT306 International Finance and Investments
• MFT760 International Finance
Check the Deakin unit handbook for prerequisites for the
units included in the Study Tour or contact the Tour leaders.
Academic delivery
Eight, three hour classes will be run on campus over
November and December at the Burwood Campus. These
classes will require pre-reading and you must participate in
tutorial activities.
While overseas you will be expected to attend all academic
activities outlined on the itinerary for the full duration of the
study tour.
Assessment
Assessment will be based on your participation on the tour as
well as an examination of your knowledge of core concepts
explored in each unit. Participants must complete a group
assignment and intelligence report as well as a two hour
test. The test and intelligence report will be completed in
Melbourne prior to the departure of the Study Tour.
Funding Available
Domestic students may be eligible to apply for OS-Help Loans
of up to AUD $6 051 to fund the costs of travelling overseas
to participate in this program.
