Advocacy and communication workplan

This document outlines the work plan for a youth advocacy and communication program operating in 19 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) exists to assist the flow of quality information to farmers globally in order to help secure a sustainable and food-secure future. IFAJ builds agricultural information networks for the 21st century across more than 40 countries on six continents and their Vision 2020 strategy aims to increase membership, especially in Africa, Asia and South America. IFAJ faces obstacles such as limited press freedom, training opportunities, and outreach as a non-profit without public funds, but works to inform, educate, and connect agricultural journalists through seminars, workshops, contests, press tours, and other programs to develop professionals and their networks.

YPARD is a global platform for young professionals under 40 who are active in agricultural development. It aims to: 1) Connect people and exchange information through its regional and local offices. 2) Promote agriculture among young people and facilitate access to resources and capacity building opportunities. 3) Contribute to strategic agricultural development policy debates. Iarsaf symposium adaptation to climate change

Janice E. Olawoye presented on adaptation to climate change and indigenous and formal mitigation strategies. She discussed how climate change negatively impacts people through changes in weather patterns, threats to food security and health. Indigenous communities have adapted through practices like multiple cropping and migration. However, increased frequency and intensity of climate events requires more formal strategies like afforestation, drought-resistant crops, and early warning systems. Adaptation is needed to support livelihoods as traditional strategies are no longer sufficient. Gender must also be considered in climate policies and projects to address women's increased burdens. Individual actions like conserving resources and research can contribute to addressing this challenge.
