Advantages And Disadvantages Of 1876
1876 and 2016 are very different times. In 1876 life was simple. Phones were just invented. People
used them, but they didn't need them to live. Kids would go outside and play. Not sit inside and play
video games. It's the life that our parents always tell us to live. "Go outside!" they'd say. "Get off
your phone!" For them, that wasn't a problem. I wish life for us was like that. For us, it's impossible
to get a bunch of friends to go out and play a big game. We wouldn't leave school and go do
whatever we want. We need our parents to call our friends parents, check if they are around, double
check, and sometimes even triple check. If we lived like Tom lived in 1876 life would be so much
more enjoyable. Instead of sitting around inside all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I love being outside and using my imagination to think of stuff to do around me. A few things that
would come easily would be the no televisions or phones. The only thing that would be hard for me
to give up about electronics would be a radio. I love music and other arts. Some things, I'd struggle
with would be having to go to Sunday school every week and their method of learning. I would hate
having to sit in a room and memorize stuff. I get bored anyway just studying for twenty minutes. I
could not even imagine sitting in a room trying to memorize paragraph upon paragraph. Throughout
all the differences, I think I would fair pretty well in Tom's time. As we have been reading the book,
everything he does seems interesting. I would have loved to go back, even just for a day, and see
what it was like to be a 13–year–old boy in

Analysis Of The Story ' Happy Birthday Chrissie '
Introduction
In an apartment in New York City a woman cried in her room. The woman was 23 and would
usually be called beautiful but today her hair was unkempt and her face was covered in the same
smudged makeup from the day before. Her room was trashed, and the woman was curled on her bed
hugging a banner that read happy birthday. The rest of the house seemed untouched. In the living
room a pile of gifts lay wrapped on the table and a painstakingly crafted cake stood on the counter
the inscription in bright blue happy lettering read Happy Birthday Chrissie. A note lay on the
counter next to the cake, a note that Chrissie would never forget. The note marked the change in
Chrissie's life her life would now be split: before the accident and after. The note was written by a
man named Aaron, the man who baked the cake. Upstairs Chrissie cried, alone, in the same position
she had lay for hours, to her it seemed like that was her whole life. She clutched the birthday banner
that was meant to celebrate her 23rd but would now just mark the day of the accident.

"I can't calm down, Aaron was in the hospital and Chris isn't answering my calls we need to get

The Upstream And Downstream Of Seeing By Annie Dillard
The Upstream and Downstream of Seeing Annie Dillard's "Seeing" discusses the two possible ways
to properly see things and relates them to light versus darkness in nature, and upstream versus
downstream of a river. The essay explains that there are two ways to see things in the world; to look
for something specific, or to let go of that desire to see something. Both types of seeing are also
combined with either brightness or darkness and with either upstream or downstream. Dillard has
trouble seeing anything in the upstream of the river because that part of the river is always dark or
cloudy. On the other hand, she can see the animals in the downstream of the river, where everything
is bright and lively. The river is split in two different symbols which help show the best way that one
should view nature. The downstream and the upstream of the river have unique characteristics, and
Dillard also compares them to darkness and light. By using powerful imagery and diction, Dillard is
able to compare the two types of seeing and explain why letting go of the desire to see is the best
way to look at things. Dillard's powerful imagery throughout the essay is crucial for understanding
the differences in seeing. For example, she is able to describe something as broad as nature by using
a simile such as, "nature is like one of those line drawings of a tree that are puzzles for children"
(19). Since Dillard writes with such a loose structure, the imagery that she

Why Do Things Happen?
I like to believe that everything happens for a reason. Coincidences are something unknown to me.
Marilyn Monroe once said, "I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that
you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they 're right, you believe
lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so
better things can fall together." With all my ups and downs, my mistakes, and my responsibilities I
deem I have matured as an individual. Psychologically maturity is the ability to react to the
environment in an appropriate manner. Maturity is the comprehension of the purpose in life. Life's
purpose, the direction in which it is aiming, and the feeling of life being meaningful. If the major
down in my life never happened I wouldn't be who I am today and wouldn't have reached the
understanding of everything happening for a reason.
I was raised in Southern California. At the time I was a freshman and had so much going. I was
attending my dream high school and cheering for a competitive team, but best of all I had my family
and friends. Around this time my mother had met a man, Mike. They met through a friend and she
really liked him. One downfall, he lived in Northern California. After some time of commuting my
mother, my sister, and me packed up our life to go live with him. We started our own family and a
new life. Jumping a few years into the future things unexpectedly turned for the

Ashbridge Street: A Case Study
Despite being located on the shores of Lake Ontario, and despite benefiting tremendously from trade
facilitated by Lake Ontario, Toronto's waterfront has, until recently, been difficult for most
Torontonians to access.
In the early 1900's, streetcars did not venture south of Front street.
In the late 1900's the Toronto Railway Company transported workers to jobs downtown.
At this particular time the only street car that serviced south of Front street was the Ashbridge
streetcar.
Railway lines cut off most of the access to downtown. Commuters could only utilize the Ashbridge
Street for connections on the ends of the downtown area.
In the 1920's the TTC took over the streetcar service from Toronto Railway Company and after this
ownership of

Essay about Golden Age Go
Go is a fascinating game that, although created in China, gained popularity and permanence in
Japan. Go planted its roots in the Heian Period and grew from there. The Heian Period, known as the
Golden Age of Japan, was a very stable time with the imperial court at the height of its reign,
especially in its early and middle years. Go provided a leisurely pastime and an opportunity for
casual conversation that was not only entertaining in a stimulating way, but at the same time
maintained the cultivated decorum of the ruling elite of the time which were among its most
common players: courtiers. Since Go's beginnings in the Heian court, the construct of decorum, the
diet, and the dress of the court served to facilitate its acceptance and ... Show more content on

Oh the other hand, it is still possible that Kibi sparked the popularity of Go in the court. However,
there are many aspects of Heian life that would have facilitated the acceptance of Go. Two
unexpected factors of the popularity of Go in the Heian court were the diet and the dress of the
courtiers. The diet of the court was poor, causing medical problems that stemmed from
malnourishment; and it has been speculated that the diet of the courtiers "may have been at least
partially responsible for the passivity and pessimism that bulk so large in Heian history and
literature" (Shively and McCullough 398). Because of this pessimism and lethargy that so plagued
the court, it makes sense that a game like Go, that requires no physical activity, became popular. The
dress of courtiers would have highly restricted movement, making pastimes that required activity
very difficult and therefore impractical. The members of the court wore ensembles that included "in
addition to [a] short outer jacket and long train prescribed for women on formal occasions, as many
as twenty or more identically cut robes..." (Shively and McCullough 395). Such an idea of
extravagant dress is echoed in many the works of prose that came out in the era. One example of a
scene in which dress is commented on comes from The Pillow Book by Sei Shōnagon that states
"...one could see the varied colours of their many–layered

Rhetorical Analysis Of Down The Lawyers Go
"Down the Lawyers Go: A Rhetorical Analysis of 'Is the Bar Too Low to Get Into Law School?'"
Writers attempt to communicate with readers about topics in many different ways. Writers can tell a
story, write about something interesting, or even paint a picture in the minds of their readers. To
engage her readers about the number of law students who passed the bar exam, a chair member at
Ohio State University of Law argues on the topic. Based on the author's reasoning towards her topic,
she makes a causation argument as well as a proposal argument. She further goes on with
approaches such as ethos, pathos, and logos to persuade her readers. In her article, "Is the Bar Too
Low to Get Into Law School?", chair in law member, Deborah Merritt ,will ... Show more content

This appeals to the logic and supporting evidence the author uses to target her readers. In the article,
Merritt reasons for the decline of bar exam scores to be lowered because some law schools are
admitting students with very weak LSAT scores. Merritt discusses, "Weak scores don't dictate bar
failure, but they correlate positively with it" (Merritt). Merritt states that weak scores do not mean a
student will fail the bar exam, but she does state that logically, if you do come in with a weak LSAT
score, you might not do as well on the bar exam. She is using logic and reasoning to persuade her
readers that if law schools had not admitted students with very weak LSAT scores in the first place,
then maybe the overall number would not have fallen. Merritt also uses an enthymeme to approach
her readers. An example of this is the question does Merritt think we even need a bar exam? She
does not explicitly state this, but with all of her reasoning and dramatic causes to the decline of
students who pass the exam, Merritt sounds like there almost does not need to be an exam. She does
say that the American Bar Association should create a more meaningful exam, but what she really
wanted to say was that they do not need one at all. Both of these approaches help communicate
towards Merritt's target audience and give them more of an idea of what she wants her readers to

The Life of David Brainerd
David Brainerd was born in on April 20, 1718 to Hezekiah Brainerd, Esq, and Dorothy Hobart. He
had four brothers and four sisters. Most of his brothers ended up in the ministry, although those that
did not were respectable upright people. David's father died when he was nine and his mother died
five years later when David was fourteen, so at a very young David was fatherless and motherless.1
David was always a type of person inclined to be melancholy. He was always a religious person. He
made sure that he did everything right, because he was afraid of death. He performed all the duties
of religion without a true conversion.2 Then, in 1738, David went to live with a man named Rev.
Mr. Fiske. It was here that David kept a regular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He would continually say in his diary that he felt the Lord. Then the next day he said that he did not
feel the presence of the Lord. Overall he would say that he longed to grow closer and closer to the
Lord. By November of 1742, Brainerd had become commissioned to be a missionary to the
Indians.11 During that time of being a missionary, David, who had an estate left to him by his father,
sold his estate and used that money to fund a young man's college bill. That young man continued to
have his school bill paid for until his benefactor died. He was able to go through college until his
junior year of college.12 Soon David was told by his missionary directors that they would like him
to go the the Indians that lived near the Delaware and Susquehanna Rivers. On December 15, 1742
he said good–bye to his friends lest they never meet on this earth again, which was a possibility due
to the danger and weather of where he was going. On February 2, 1743, David Brainerd preached
his farewell sermon in the home of an elderly man, who had not been able to get out his house for
some time, then David parted with his friends to go be a missionary to Indians.13 Before David
actually headed to his Indians, David talked about his spiritual life in his diary. He talked about
enjoying spiritual peace and comfort, and sorrow of sin. He also was in agony over sin. Then on
April 1, he arrived at his Indians, not the ones near the Delaware and

Disillusionment In Twelfth Night
Disappointment and disillusionment are both prominent themes presented by L.P Hartley in The
Go–Between. Published in 1953 although set at the beginning of the 20th century, The Go–Between
demonstrates how a young boys deceived and clouded perception of life leads to a disillusioned old
man, who can't recover from the distressing events of the first summer of 1900. In Shakespeare's
Twelfth Night disappointment is exhibited through many characters whom experience the torments
of a love that is not reciprocated. Furthermore, Thomas Hardy explores similar themes in his poetry
via the use of specific literary techniques, such as metaphors, and pathetic fallacy to demonstrate
how the disillusionment of the speakers past has led to a disappointed ... Show more content on

The speakers misconceptions of another woman's feelings towards himself first emerge when he
believes that "her gloom within at the lack of [him] seemed matching [his] at the lack of her", the
repetition of "lack" in both lines shows that the speaker wants to relate to the woman, as well as
wanting the woman to relate to him. Hardy's use of the expression "seemed" is a foregrounding
technique to imply to the reader that nothing is as it seems due to the speaker's disillusionment
regarding the unreciprocated feelings between himself and the woman. Disappointment surfaces
when the speaker notices that there "was glee within." rather than "gloom"; the utilisation of the
caesura represents the speakers moment of realisation thus the moment that his illusions of the
woman transform into sheer disappointment at the fact that he is now going to be "alone". The cause
of the speaker's disappointment is similar to Leo's in The Go–Between as he foolishly believes
Marian has feelings for him, until he experiences his moment of realisation upon reading "darling,
darling, darling" demonstrating that the cause of their

Descriptive Essay About Snowboarding
Ever since I can just about remember I have been Snowboarding. Well first I started off skiing, but I
wanted more of a challenge. What got me started was my older brother Daniel when he tried it for
the first time, he didn't stick with it because he hit his head to many times (I think he is just a pansy).
Him and his friends use to call me hobo Joe, which I kind of liked cause it rhymes with my name
Joe and It gave me attention. We would always go to this little ski resort about 20 minutes away
from our house and it was a blast, I loved it. I didn't have any friends to go with at the time so I just
tagged alot with my older brother which was fine enough.
I was 12 years old when we first started planning our trip to go to a resort in Colorado, I remember
sitting up at night talking with my older brother, counting down the days till we finally got to leave
for our skiing adventure. And to top it all off some of daniel's friends were coming along with our
cousin Jodi and oldest brother nick. Even though Daniel and his friends tease me at times I still find
it a lot of fun to hang out with them.
"Dad how much longer till we finally get to leave?" I would ask my dad with urgency, not
understanding at the time that asking ever couple of hours would not make the departure come any
faster. Rolling his eyes my dad would answer "This is the fifth time today you asked that question,
we are leaving tomorrow morning". Dancing down the hall I hurry to my room that I share with
Daniel. When I approached the door I could heard these terrible retching noises coming from behind
the door. I peek inside the door to see Daniel with his face in the waste basket. My heart starts to
sink, knowing that if Daniel is too sick to travel then we weren't going to be able to leave for this
trip. I go tell my parents and then trudgingly flop down on the couch knowing I wasn't going to get
very good sleep tonight.
I wake up messaging my neck trying to get the knot that had developed there overnight due to my
sleeping arrangements. Sleepy, I walk to the bathroom and start to wash my face and start my
morning routine. As I took my clothes off and I walking into the shower and turned on the hottest
the water would go, I liked when it was

Corruption In William Faulkner's Go Down, Moses
William Faulkner wrote in his 1951 novel, Requiem for a Nun, "the past is never dead. It's not even
past." This sentiment recurs in Go Down, Moses, which attempts to chronicle the legacies of Lucius
McCaslin and his descendants. In his novel, Go Down, Moses, William Faulkner plays with time
and chronology to comment on the importance and the irrelevance of history. This contradiction is
central to the work's theme of redemption and forgiveness. The way in which the story's events are
told are a constant reminder of the family's, and the audience's fumbling attempts to grapple with
history, the narrative(s) and the facts.
Faulkner structures the story in a way that is disorienting, but ultimately purposeful. Consider
"Was", it is essential to ask why Faulkner begins here of all places. It is not, for example, the
beginning of the important action, if the book is centered around the corruption of the black
bloodline with McCaslin malignance. That event, that rape, of Eunice and later Tomey, by Lucius,
poisons the bloodstream for generations. It curses all of the black Beauchamps, and for they live
short, tortured lives. That moment of poisoning should have started the novel because of its
importance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In "The Old People" Faulkner makes this clear by characterizing nature as a constant. It is beyond
time, beyond history. As Rash describes, "the wall of the wilderness behind them now, tremendous
and still and seemingly impenetrable in the gray and fading light"(169). Isaac's greatest lesson
comes when he finally understands what part he plays in nature and nature in him, when he comes
to understand that human beings can never truly overpower the natural world. "Gradually to the boy
those old times would cease to be old times and would become a part of the boy's present, not only
as if they had happened yesterday but as if they were still happening"

Race Relations and Environmental Destruction in William...
There is a perverse lie that humans have tricked themselves into believing for generations. Its
consequences have proven to be unstoppable, unchangeable, and ultimately catastrophic on a global
level. This toxic deception that humankind continues to believe is that the natural world can be
conquered and manipulated to serve man's will. However, this craving for control does not end with
Mother Nature, but continues with an insatiable hunger to rule over other human beings. William
Faulkner, in his novel Go Down, Moses, explores the racial tensions and disastrous environmental
results that arose in the South when humankind, believing in this lie, tried to dominate and capitalize
off nature and its fellow man. Faulkner attributes the decline of the American South to its economic
exploitations and its racial oppression. In "Touching Race in Go Down, Moses" John T. Matthews
argues that these two elements were not mutually exclusive but instead were intertwined through
their reliance on one another. He describes how the South's capitalism depended on racism, first
through slavery and then through wage slavery, "Slavery proper took a people for everything; the
wage slavery that succeeded it merely robbed them blind" (25). The prospect black tenants had of
being able to earn their own income was quickly eradicated once they realized that their meager
wages were merely a façade for keeping them as slaves. As tenants they were still exposed to the
extreme violence and

The Toronto FC and their Use of International Talent
INTRODUCTION
The Toronto Football Club (TFC) is a relatively new MLS franchise that has seen immense growth
in recent years which consequently makes it an excellent candidate for the analysis of the underlying
economic principles that govern its newfound success. One factor that makes the Toronto FC so
interesting is its unique labour market that highlights the distinct relationship between labour supply
and labour demand. It is well known that the MLS is one of the smallest sanctioned professional
level soccer organizations on a global scale. It is dwarfed by its European counter parts in both
viewership and revenue. However, in recent years there has been an unprecedented increase in

There is no disputing that international players are more talented than domestic players. In 2014
through 2016 the MLS league leader boards were completely dominated solely by international
players in both goals and assists. There is a definite correlation between the number of international
players on a teams roaster and the number of points they get in a season. This creates an interesting
situation. The franchises who can afford to purchase expensive all–star international players –like
the TFC – will be able perform better. But smaller franchises that are less capable of investing in
well known international players are now forced to do so just to stay

Personal Narrative: Weed In The United States
When I was in high school I was not much different from any other male in my grade. I enjoyed
sports, video games, and weed. I started smoking weed when I was in 12th grade. My friend Mike
invited me over to his house to hang out one Friday night. As soon as I arrived to his house I smelled
a strong scent of weed. I already knew what weed smelled like because I've been to many music
festivals. When I walked into his backyard I saw my friend Mike and two other kids from my grade
that I didn't talk to. I tried to avoid hanging out with those two kids because they were always up to
trouble. I walked up to everyone and said, "What's up guys". They replied, "Yo what's good". When
I sat down the two kids pulled out a ounce of weed. I immediately felt ... Show more content on

saying that he could do it later that night. I asked him if he could send the address and time. He sent
me a address to a house in Newark NJ and wanted to do the deal at 9:00 pm. I was starting to get
afraid because Newark is one of the most dangerous cities in NJ. On top of that, the deal was going
to happen at 9 pm. That was two red flags at once, yet it still did not stop me. I got one of my big
friends to go with me in exchange for some weed. We arrived to the old abounded house and there
was nobody to be found. I texted my dealer and told him that I was outside. He told me to walk to
the back yard and enter the house through the back door. As I was explaining this to my friend, I
could see the fear in his eyes. He pulled out a seven inch pocket knife and said, "I brought this just
in case we need to use it". I knew a seven inch pocket knife was not going to do anything against a
gun. We entered the house and I yelled, "Anyone there"? I heard someone mumble, "Yeah come

Go down Moses" is one of the many slave spiritual songs reflecting how slaves felt during their time

many slaves wanted. The song calls for Moses; the Bible tells the Exodus story; God commands
Moses to go to the Pharaoh and give him a very clear message on His behalf "let my people go".
The Israelites were held in captivity in Egypt, therefore God command the Pharaoh to let them free

Personal Narrative Essay: A Bad Axiety Day
It was one of those days. A bad anxiety day. After taking a break from school, and not having any
classes to attend or exams to take, these didn't come very frequently anymore. I liked history but just
the thought of having to be on campus, or alone in that room, away from everything I considered

The panic attacks had scarred me, traumatized me, and changed me into someone I couldn't

just shyness anymore, I was terrified. Terrified o taking the bus by alone. Terrified of going to the

glow? What if I start to glow?" After working herself into a frenzy, Corvida Bratleigh ran away
down the path as quickly as she could, her arms flapping, dark eyes wide and her black hair pushed
against her head by the wind. Cordiva fled so quickly none of the approaching party noticed her.
Running, running, Corvida ran until she could hardly breathe through her sobs. Finally she had
reached the Fernandez back yard and her beautiful playhouse. The playhouse she loved so much
when she was a small child. A place she felt safe. Corvida opened the small white door and entered
the little house. Crouching in the corner, the frightened girl continued to cry. She did not feel safe.
She wasn't safe. No one was safe! Sitting in the corner, Corvida looked so small and fragile. Very
unlike the Corvida Bratleigh her classmates knew from school. Nikki Fernandez was sitting in her
garden reading on her e–reader when she heard something over the music playing on her MP3
player. She pulled the ear–bud from each ear to better hear the muffled sounds. Nikki could now
clearly hear Corvida's weeping coming from the little playhouse. Nikki, put her e–reader

Go Go Music : The Problem Of Go-Go Music
If you live in the D.C. metro area, there's a fairly high chance that you may have heard go–go music.
You may have been walking down the street in D.C. and heard people banging on trash cans and not
even realized what kind of music it was.
A Home to a well educated black middle class because of institutions like Howard University, DC,
unfortunately, experienced a similar urban issue that was the same as with many US cities beginning
in the late 1960s. After the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., "the segregation–era black
enclave around U Street was left gutted by rioters, a trauma felt through subsequent decades"
(Miller, 2012). DC had an influx of black people and poorer people as the middle–class residents
left for the suburbs. With a declining tax base, "the city's schools and service institutions could do
little to counteract the atmosphere of hopelessness and frustration pervasive in poor black
neighborhoods" (Miller, 2012).
In the early 1970s, musical pioneer Chuck Brown started to lie down the foundations of what is now
called go–go music. The music was "driven by teenage musicians and audience members, the music
was heavily inspired by funk, blues, soul, and salsa" (Reynolds, 2015). Go–go is typically
identifiable because of its syncopated polyrhythms and the use of multiple percussion instruments.
Initially, ""go–go" was the term used to identify the place where young people were partying"
(Reynolds, 2015). Eventually, the music itself took on the name and

How Roadways and Public transit have impacted the city
The top issue in Toronto was the poor performance of public transit such as buses, streetcars, and
subway trains. The TTC system is of very bad performance that even many transit systems in third–
world countries provide users with better experiences than trasit users have in Toronto. The current
major problems with TTC are: crowding during rush periods and insufficient ridership to justify
reasonable service levels at other times. Another problem was that Rob Ford was unwilling to accept
a proposal to reduce monitoring of fare payment. "I have problems with the honour system," he said.
John Tory opposed the recommendations because they are not funded. But funding such service

In June of last year the TTC announced their plan to replace tickets and tokens by integrating Presto,
a Metrolinx smart card system all across the TTC by the end of this year. Tickets and tokens will
only be accepted to mid 2017. Public transit is one of the only means of transportation for people in
this situation, they usually have to chose between basic needs or fare. Also a study in Edmonton
showed that provding youths with monthly transit passes reduces their encounter with the police or
any criminal justice system. With new changes with the TTC they lack to consider these people in
this economic state. The Presto card cost $6 and needs a minimal of $10 in it, which is paid eithier
by credit, debit, or cash. Many people who don't have fixed adresses are not able to own a bank or
credit card. These people then have to use change to load the cards and with the Presto process
which then the card takes 7–10 days to arrive, it's more of hassle for people than to just carry over
change, tickets, or tokens. Also an overall concern about this machine is not only does it have acess
to peoples finicial accounts, but it also tracks our movemnts which many people are uncomfortable
with, as we do not know who has acess to this information or how they will use

Summary Of Mayday Down Go The Jets
Mayday, Mayday Down Go The Jets!
Friday, Northwood faced JM in a crosstown rivalry. The game was a stalemate for most of the first
half. After the Charger defense came up with two consecutive goal line stops, Montel Goods
muscled his way into the end zone for a 3 yard score with 9:43 left in the second quarter. The
chargers would pull away from there. After the defense forced JM to punt on fourth down, with 6:26
left in the second quarter, Quarterback, Jacob Fowler, connected with Jared Worley for a 16 yard
touchdown. Then lightning suspended the game with 3:53 left in the second half. The suspension did
not slow down the Chargers offense, as Fowler would score on a quarterback sneak from the four
yard line just before halftime.

Biblical Allusions In Go Down Moses By William Faulkner
In William Faulkner in Go Down Moses, exhibits many biblical allusions throughout his writing by
illustrating the Civil War being a cleanse from the sins human have committed. This furthers the
idea that the corruption of humans can lead to an unavoidable chaos. William Faulkner's Go Down
Moses is collection of short stories in which they all tie together in a way. In a series of stories,
Faulkner introduces Ike, who is met with moral conflicting issues throughout the book. Faulkner
alludes to many biblical allusions and helps along with Ike's decisions.
When in a debate, Ike is seen referencing the Bible to help guide his argument. When Cass and Ike

As the war progresses throughout the book, Ike is becoming more aware of his surroundings and the
effect it has. Just as God remembered Noah, His creation who believed in Him and followed Him,
God came back and promised to never have a flood again. God in the first place decided to flood the
earth due to its corruption and violence. As Ike grows aware of the reasons why the Civil War goes
on, his want for the land continues to diminish. As Cass and Ike continue to have their conversation,
Ike touches on the blood shed during the War. His view is that humans cannot learn from their
wrongdoings until blood is shed and people everywhere are suffering. "Apparently they can learn
nothing save through suffering, remember nothing save when underlined in blood'" (273). The Civil
War was fueled by those whose hatred for another person's beliefs transformed into violence. Being
the North primarily against slavery and the South for it, those growing up in each part had different
morals and values. Each side thought they were more right than the other, blood was shed

Personal Narrative : The Dream Story
The Dream Story
On the day of February 21, 2003, a woman named Eleanor Quincy gave birth to a loving child
named Alexa Quincy. She was a unique child growing up and never did anything wrong. When she
was 5, she was really shy and just read books all day. She really had a great childhood growing up
with her parents, but that changed when she turned 14 years old. Her dad Davis got a new job as a
mechanic when she was 13, but he was going to get stationed in Ohio. He was confirmed of the job
on her birthday. The next day, Davis sat down with his family and told them the terrifying news.
Alexa stood up and shouted while crying, "Why do we have to move during the school year? You

stop hurting her. After she fully sat down, she got her blanket out of her carry on bag and put it over
her so she could fall asleep. A little while later, Alexa woke up and forgot she was on the plane and
not at home. Her mom and dad were sitting next to her asleep also. Her mom and dad woke up a few
hours after she did. 30 minutes later, the plane landed and they started to get off the plane. When
they got their car back, they drove to their new house. When they first walked in, Alexa 's first
thoughts were, "Eww, why did we have to move to this place. Dad, why did you have to get this
job?". Davis said in despite of her offense, "Well honey, this was the only degree I went to school
for. Being a mechanic was my passion since I was a little boy like you. Except, you 're a girl.". The
next this Davis had on his mind was school. How were they going to enroll her? Where were they
going to enroll her? Then Davis remembered he saw an ad on the TV for a high school named West
Coast High. So when it was a week before school, Davis asked Eleanor if she can go up to West
Coast and enroll Alexa. Eleanor started to get a confused look on her face, but then she remembered
what he was talking about. Eleanor exchanged a smile with Davis meaning she was going to do it.

The Upstream And Downstream Of Seeing By Annie Dillard
The Upstream and Downstream of Seeing Annie Dillard's "Seeing" discusses the two possible ways
to properly see things and relates them to light versus darkness in nature and upstream versus
downstream of a river. The essay explains that there are two ways to see things in the world; to look
for something specifically or to let go of the desire to see something.
The downstream and the upstream of the river have unique characteristics
because they also compare to being darkness and light. By using powerful imagery and word choice,
Dillard is able to compare the two types of seeing and explain why letting go of the want to see is
the best way to look at things. Dillard's powerful imagery throughout the essay is crucial for
understanding the differences in seeing. For example, she is able to describe something as broad as
nature by using a simile such as "nature is like one of those line drawings of a tree that are puzzles
for children" (19). Since Dillard writes with such a loose structure, the imagery she creates helps
clarify

approached a fallen tree and I tried to jump over it but I clipped my feet on the top of it and tumbled
over to the other side. I scraped my knee on the side of the tree trunk and my knee started to bleed. I
sat up on held my knee and let out a groan. "Smooth move Bailey" I said to myself. My knee looked
worse than it actually was. I stood up and put my hand on the log. I waited for a moment then took
my hand off the log and started to walk forward. I stumbled a little bit and had to limp because my
knee hurt so bad. I continued on my journey towards lexi's house. It took me a little longer than I

James Weldon Johnson's Go Down, Death
After these past few heartbreaking days, I can certainly relate to James Weldon Johnson's "Go
Down, Death". The second stanza says, "God was looking down from his great, high heaven,
Looking down on all his children, And his eye fell on Sister Caroline, Tossing on her bed of pain.
And God's big heart was touched with pity, With everlasting pity." I relate to this because I think
that's exactly what happened with Karen. He saw how much she had already fought and He knew
that after all the pain she had been in that she deserved to go without a struggle. Johnson says in
stanza five, "She's borne the burden and heat of the day, She's labored long in my vineyard, And
she's tired–– She's weary–– Go down, Death, and bring her to me." Karen was one ... Show more

Yet, she still didn't complain. She knew her life was in God's hands, that through her struggle He
could bring good. And that's exactly what He did, many were saved at her beautiful funeral because
of her. I'm sure that made her smile in heaven. In the ninth stanza, it says " And Jesus took his own
hand and wiped away her tears, And he smoothed the furrows from her face, And the angels sang a
little song, And Jesus rocked her in his arms, And kept a–saying: Take your rest, Take your rest."
This is probably one of the most comforting things to hear right now. She had died peacefully in her
sleep and then she had awoken in Jesus' arms in heaven. Her death was a slap in the face to all of us
since she had been doing so well. But I think God gives us that time to see the people we love, who
are suffering, happy and more like themselves so we can say our goodbyes. He gives us those last
memories of them as happy ones. And as the first and last stanzas say, "Weep not––weep not, She is
not dead; She's resting in the bosom of Jesus." I know I've done my fair share of weeping, and I
know I still will in the future, it hurt tremendously to lose someone who was like a second mom to

Movie Review : Spring Breakers
Movie: "Spring Breakers" I chose the movie "Spring Breakers", to illustrate how sexism, rape
culture, and sexual assault play an enormous role in society. The movie is about 4 college best
friends, Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), Faith (Selena Gomez), Brit (Ashley Benson) and Cotty (Rachel
Korine) , who are in need of money so they can go to Florida for their spring–break trip. The girls
end up robbing a diner and they head down to Florida. However, the police soon find the group of
girls and arrest them. The four college girls are then bailed out of jail by drug dealer and aspiring rap
artist, Alien (James Franco). Afterwards, Faith cannot handle the pressure of being a "bad girl" and
decides to go home. The other three girls decide to join Alien in a life of crime. The movie "Spring
Breakers" is not just a horrible movie, but it boosts rape culture. This movie turns young women
into sex objects. In the beginning of the movie, we get a slow–motion shot of breasts as the college
students' dance and drink on the beach. Despite the fact that men are also involved, the camera only
focuses on the females. The message is clear, the females are the ones "letting loose." Even a scene
in the lecture hall shows two of the female protagonists imitate "blow jobs" in the middle of their
boring class. In the book "Language and Sexism" by Sara Mills, explains, "Language does indeed
reveal to us the values of groups and institutions within our culture in the past who were

Traffic Congestion and the Pollution it Creates is...
According to the Toronto Environmental Office, vehicles are responsible for 35% of all greenhouse
gases (GHG) produced in Toronto (City of Toronto, 2011), and the Clean Air Partnership estimates
that idling in the GTHA wastes 90 million litres of fuel each year (ibid), which further justifies the
need to combat gridlock and traffic congestion with effective government policies. Air is a
transboundary problem therefore no one jurisdiction, whether it is a municipality, province, country
or continent, can completely control the air in which its residents breathe in. In addition, each have
their own authority to uphold air quality for its residents but cannot control the air pollution coming
in from neighbouring provinces and countries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cooperation will be key in combating decreasing air quality as a result of gridlock and traffic
congestion.
Although air quality falls under different jurisdictions and is subject to various laws and regulations
that cross municipal and provincial jurisdictions, municipal governments can exert control, even
with their limited powers, by creating bylaws that help increase the air quality in Toronto. On top of
creating bylaws within the city, the municipalities must ensure that they work with the different
levels of governments to pass worthwhile laws and regulations across the province that will help
reverse the decreasing air quality in the GTHA and in the province in general. Traffic Congestion
has been a problem for those living in the city and those commuting to the city for years now. The
Toronto Region Board of Trade (2013) points out how investing in the regional transportation plan,
also known as "The Big Move," which was developed by the Province's regional transportation
agency Metrolinx, is key to improving roads and highways for drivers across the GTHA (p. 2) and
therefore decreasing the negative affects from gridlock and traffic congestion. There a number of
ways improvements can be made including, but not limited to, investing in public transportation,
improving intraregional bottlenecks (ibid.) and increasing tickets and fines (Heisey, 2013, p. 2),
along with many other important changes, all of which will require legal action and political
cooperation.

The Jealous Husband And His Reincarnation

The jealous Husband and his reincarnation. In "Jealous husband Returns in form of Parrot" Robert
Olen Butlers main character is a parrot whose character traits consist of jealousy, insecurity, and lack
of confrontment. The Author creates a story that is told from a perspective that is informative but
also vivid. The development of the story allows the reader to visually analyze a picture as the story
is being told. The overall theme of the story is that relationships are tough when they consist of
certain traits. This is shown through the story 's character, tone and symbolism. Within the text there
is a character referred to as "The guy from shipping" who the main character is jealous of. His ex–
wife mentions this character three times throughout the story which cause him to become enraged
and foolish. For example, "Hey, I'm not stupid. She said one thing about him and then another and
right after the third one I locked myself in the bathroom because I couldn't rage about this anymore
(Butler 2)." When his wife begins to mention other males who lived better lives than that such of
his, it caused him to become very jealous. Even though his jealous causes him to become enraged,
he doesn't say anything because he feels that it is better to remain silent.
The parrot realized that when he was a human he was jealous of the relationship that he and his wife
had versus the one she had with other men. For example, and I quote"

Change, Regulation, And Boundaries
Change, Regulation, and Boundaries Life throws many curveballs. Whether it is good or bad it
creates changes throughout an individual's lifetime. For example, the change of getting a promotion
at work. There are two main perspectives to getting a promotion. The first perspective, if viewed
positively is receiving a higher title, better pay, and more benefits which an individual will be more
than happy to accept the change. The second perspective, if viewed negatively is having greater
responsibility, working more hours, and dealing with more people which will most likely slow down
the individual's ability to manage the change. Regardless of the kind of change an individual goes
through it is up to them to manage it effectively and positively. When life has changes it also needs
regulation and setting boundaries in order to manage change effectively. While it is up to the
individual, it is important to find the best ways to manage change, promote good regulation, and
create positive boundaries. Before I enter my future profession as an Accountant I will be going
through life with many changes, following regulation, and creating boundaries for myself. Adapting
to all these changes, regulations, and boundaries will not be easy. It will be my responsibility to find
positive ways to manage these objectives to best fit my character. My first opinion on the best ways
to manage change is to stay positive, be patient, have support, and learning to let go. My second

Themes in Faulkner’s Go Down, Moses Essay
Themes in Faulkner's Go Down, Moses
The three main themes I can place in Go Down, Moses are the role/significance of family structure
(familial relationships), the idea of property/ownership, and the relationship between man and
nature. The story "Was" presents a story involving the black branch of the McCaslin family tree
(Tomey's Turl is biologically Carothers McCaslin's son who has been betrayed by his father who
allows him to be raised as a slave). It establishes a major theme (the idea of being raised by someone
other than a biological parent) that will be further developed as the novel progresses ("Delta
Autumn" presents a reunion between the black and white branches of the McCaslin family).
Because Rider is not related to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, the importance of family outweighs masculinity (this is saying a lot, considering how Rider is
developed as very masculine). In losing his family, Rider is also lost (this ties in with comments I
posted here last week on Light in August: "Without a family, a person cannot fit into society, and if a
person does not fit into society, he/she is essentially alone.").
In "The Old People", the idea of being raised by someone other than a biological parent (seen first
with Turl, with McCaslin being raised by his uncles, and with Isaac being raised by McCaslin), It is
seen in "The Old People" with the revelation that Sam Feathers was betrayed by his father when he
and his mother were sold into slavery. Another major theme that factors heavily into this particular
story is the relationship between man and man as well as the relationship between man and nature.
In this story, traditions and morals are being passed from one man to another. Interestingly, this
parallels man's connection to nature; man is related to nature (signified by referring to the buck as
"grandfather") and, therefore, learns from nature as he does from other men.
"The Bear" explores, in more depth than any other story, the relationship between man and nature.
In this story, the power of nature (it is seen as practically immortal, indomitable, able to overpower
almost anything) is embodied by Old Ben. Man's desire to suppress and control nature is seen in the
men who want to kill Old Ben. When I

day in his rusty Ford, which reeked of fast food. Then lock himself in his room, and he wouldn't
leave until the very next morning for work. Over the years, Bethany became more and more curious
about her mother, after all, she was only four years old when her mother died. She really didn't
remember much about her mother, other than her

Advantages And Disadvantages Of 1876

  • 1. Advantages And Disadvantages Of 1876 1876 and 2016 are very different times. In 1876 life was simple. Phones were just invented. People used them, but they didn't need them to live. Kids would go outside and play. Not sit inside and play video games. It's the life that our parents always tell us to live. "Go outside!" they'd say. "Get off your phone!" For them, that wasn't a problem. I wish life for us was like that. For us, it's impossible to get a bunch of friends to go out and play a big game. We wouldn't leave school and go do whatever we want. We need our parents to call our friends parents, check if they are around, double check, and sometimes even triple check. If we lived like Tom lived in 1876 life would be so much more enjoyable. Instead of sitting around inside all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I love being outside and using my imagination to think of stuff to do around me. A few things that would come easily would be the no televisions or phones. The only thing that would be hard for me to give up about electronics would be a radio. I love music and other arts. Some things, I'd struggle with would be having to go to Sunday school every week and their method of learning. I would hate having to sit in a room and memorize stuff. I get bored anyway just studying for twenty minutes. I could not even imagine sitting in a room trying to memorize paragraph upon paragraph. Throughout all the differences, I think I would fair pretty well in Tom's time. As we have been reading the book, everything he does seems interesting. I would have loved to go back, even just for a day, and see what it was like to be a 13–year–old boy in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Analysis Of The Story ' Happy Birthday Chrissie ' Introduction In an apartment in New York City a woman cried in her room. The woman was 23 and would usually be called beautiful but today her hair was unkempt and her face was covered in the same smudged makeup from the day before. Her room was trashed, and the woman was curled on her bed hugging a banner that read happy birthday. The rest of the house seemed untouched. In the living room a pile of gifts lay wrapped on the table and a painstakingly crafted cake stood on the counter the inscription in bright blue happy lettering read Happy Birthday Chrissie. A note lay on the counter next to the cake, a note that Chrissie would never forget. The note marked the change in Chrissie's life her life would now be split: before the accident and after. The note was written by a man named Aaron, the man who baked the cake. Upstairs Chrissie cried, alone, in the same position she had lay for hours, to her it seemed like that was her whole life. She clutched the birthday banner that was meant to celebrate her 23rd but would now just mark the day of the accident. Genevieve "Gen what are you doing right now you need to get over here" "What why what's going on?" I asked "Fi you need to calm down I don't know what you are going on about." "I can't calm down, Aaron was in the hospital and Chris isn't answering my calls we need to get there now." Fi said in one breath. "Aaron is in the hospital! What happened! Is he okay?!" • 5. The Upstream And Downstream Of Seeing By Annie Dillard The Upstream and Downstream of Seeing Annie Dillard's "Seeing" discusses the two possible ways to properly see things and relates them to light versus darkness in nature, and upstream versus downstream of a river. The essay explains that there are two ways to see things in the world; to look for something specific, or to let go of that desire to see something. Both types of seeing are also combined with either brightness or darkness and with either upstream or downstream. Dillard has trouble seeing anything in the upstream of the river because that part of the river is always dark or cloudy. On the other hand, she can see the animals in the downstream of the river, where everything is bright and lively. The river is split in two different symbols which help show the best way that one should view nature. The downstream and the upstream of the river have unique characteristics, and Dillard also compares them to darkness and light. By using powerful imagery and diction, Dillard is able to compare the two types of seeing and explain why letting go of the desire to see is the best way to look at things. Dillard's powerful imagery throughout the essay is crucial for understanding the differences in seeing. For example, she is able to describe something as broad as nature by using a simile such as, "nature is like one of those line drawings of a tree that are puzzles for children" (19). Since Dillard writes with such a loose structure, the imagery that she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Why Do Things Happen? I like to believe that everything happens for a reason. Coincidences are something unknown to me. Marilyn Monroe once said, "I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they 're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together." With all my ups and downs, my mistakes, and my responsibilities I deem I have matured as an individual. Psychologically maturity is the ability to react to the environment in an appropriate manner. Maturity is the comprehension of the purpose in life. Life's purpose, the direction in which it is aiming, and the feeling of life being meaningful. If the major down in my life never happened I wouldn't be who I am today and wouldn't have reached the understanding of everything happening for a reason. I was raised in Southern California. At the time I was a freshman and had so much going. I was attending my dream high school and cheering for a competitive team, but best of all I had my family and friends. Around this time my mother had met a man, Mike. They met through a friend and she really liked him. One downfall, he lived in Northern California. After some time of commuting my mother, my sister, and me packed up our life to go live with him. We started our own family and a new life. Ashbridge Street: A Case Study Despite being located on the shores of Lake Ontario, and despite benefiting tremendously from trade facilitated by Lake Ontario, Toronto's waterfront has, until recently, been difficult for most Torontonians to access. In the early 1900's, streetcars did not venture south of Front street. In the late 1900's the Toronto Railway Company transported workers to jobs downtown. At this particular time the only street car that serviced south of Front street was the Ashbridge streetcar. Railway lines cut off most of the access to downtown. Commuters could only utilize the Ashbridge Street for connections on the ends of the downtown area. In the 1920's the TTC took over the streetcar service from Toronto Railway Company and after this ownership of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Essay about Golden Age Go Go is a fascinating game that, although created in China, gained popularity and permanence in Japan. Go planted its roots in the Heian Period and grew from there. The Heian Period, known as the Golden Age of Japan, was a very stable time with the imperial court at the height of its reign, especially in its early and middle years. Go provided a leisurely pastime and an opportunity for casual conversation that was not only entertaining in a stimulating way, but at the same time maintained the cultivated decorum of the ruling elite of the time which were among its most common players: courtiers. Since Go's beginnings in the Heian court, the construct of decorum, the diet, and the dress of the court served to facilitate its acceptance and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oh the other hand, it is still possible that Kibi sparked the popularity of Go in the court. However, there are many aspects of Heian life that would have facilitated the acceptance of Go. Two unexpected factors of the popularity of Go in the Heian court were the diet and the dress of the courtiers. The diet of the court was poor, causing medical problems that stemmed from malnourishment; and it has been speculated that the diet of the courtiers "may have been at least partially responsible for the passivity and pessimism that bulk so large in Heian history and literature" (Shively and McCullough 398). Because of this pessimism and lethargy that so plagued the court, it makes sense that a game like Go, that requires no physical activity, became popular. The dress of courtiers would have highly restricted movement, making pastimes that required activity very difficult and therefore impractical. The members of the court wore ensembles that included "in addition to [a] short outer jacket and long train prescribed for women on formal occasions, as many as twenty or more identically cut robes..." (Shively and McCullough 395). Such an idea of extravagant dress is echoed in many the works of prose that came out in the era. One example of a scene in which dress is commented on comes from The Pillow Book by Sei Shōnagon that states "...one could see the varied colours of their many–layered ... • 15. Rhetorical Analysis Of Down The Lawyers Go "Down the Lawyers Go: A Rhetorical Analysis of 'Is the Bar Too Low to Get Into Law School?'" Writers attempt to communicate with readers about topics in many different ways. Writers can tell a story, write about something interesting, or even paint a picture in the minds of their readers. To engage her readers about the number of law students who passed the bar exam, a chair member at Ohio State University of Law argues on the topic. Based on the author's reasoning towards her topic, she makes a causation argument as well as a proposal argument. She further goes on with approaches such as ethos, pathos, and logos to persuade her readers. In her article, "Is the Bar Too Low to Get Into Law School?", chair in law member, Deborah Merritt ,will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This appeals to the logic and supporting evidence the author uses to target her readers. In the article, Merritt reasons for the decline of bar exam scores to be lowered because some law schools are admitting students with very weak LSAT scores. Merritt discusses, "Weak scores don't dictate bar failure, but they correlate positively with it" (Merritt). Merritt states that weak scores do not mean a student will fail the bar exam, but she does state that logically, if you do come in with a weak LSAT score, you might not do as well on the bar exam. She is using logic and reasoning to persuade her readers that if law schools had not admitted students with very weak LSAT scores in the first place, then maybe the overall number would not have fallen. Merritt also uses an enthymeme to approach her readers. An example of this is the question does Merritt think we even need a bar exam? She does not explicitly state this, but with all of her reasoning and dramatic causes to the decline of students who pass the exam, Merritt sounds like there almost does not need to be an exam. She does say that the American Bar Association should create a more meaningful exam, but what she really wanted to say was that they do not need one at all. Both of these approaches help communicate towards Merritt's target audience and give them more of an idea of what she wants her readers to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Life of David Brainerd David Brainerd was born in on April 20, 1718 to Hezekiah Brainerd, Esq, and Dorothy Hobart. He had four brothers and four sisters. Most of his brothers ended up in the ministry, although those that did not were respectable upright people. David's father died when he was nine and his mother died five years later when David was fourteen, so at a very young David was fatherless and motherless.1 David was always a type of person inclined to be melancholy. He was always a religious person. He made sure that he did everything right, because he was afraid of death. He performed all the duties of religion without a true conversion.2 Then, in 1738, David went to live with a man named Rev. Mr. Fiske. It was here that David kept a regular ... Overall he would say that he longed to grow closer and closer to the Lord. By November of 1742, Brainerd had become commissioned to be a missionary to the Indians.11 During that time of being a missionary, David, who had an estate left to him by his father, sold his estate and used that money to fund a young man's college bill. That young man continued to have his school bill paid for until his benefactor died. He was able to go through college until his junior year of college.12 Soon David was told by his missionary directors that they would like him to go the the Indians that lived near the Delaware and Susquehanna Rivers. On December 15, 1742 he said good–bye to his friends lest they never meet on this earth again, which was a possibility due to the danger and weather of where he was going. On February 2, 1743, David Brainerd preached his farewell sermon in the home of an elderly man, who had not been able to get out his house for some time, then David parted with his friends to go be a missionary to Indians.13 Before David actually headed to his Indians, David talked about his spiritual life in his diary. He talked about enjoying spiritual peace and comfort, and sorrow of sin. He also was in agony over sin. Then on April 1, he arrived at his Indians, not the ones near the Delaware and ... • 19. Disillusionment In Twelfth Night Disappointment and disillusionment are both prominent themes presented by L.P Hartley in The Go–Between. Published in 1953 although set at the beginning of the 20th century, The Go–Between demonstrates how a young boys deceived and clouded perception of life leads to a disillusioned old man, who can't recover from the distressing events of the first summer of 1900. In Shakespeare's Twelfth Night disappointment is exhibited through many characters whom experience the torments of a love that is not reciprocated. Furthermore, Thomas Hardy explores similar themes in his poetry via the use of specific literary techniques, such as metaphors, and pathetic fallacy to demonstrate how the disillusionment of the speakers past has led to a disappointed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speakers misconceptions of another woman's feelings towards himself first emerge when he believes that "her gloom within at the lack of [him] seemed matching [his] at the lack of her", the repetition of "lack" in both lines shows that the speaker wants to relate to the woman, as well as wanting the woman to relate to him. Hardy's use of the expression "seemed" is a foregrounding technique to imply to the reader that nothing is as it seems due to the speaker's disillusionment regarding the unreciprocated feelings between himself and the woman. Disappointment surfaces when the speaker notices that there "was glee within." rather than "gloom"; the utilisation of the caesura represents the speakers moment of realisation thus the moment that his illusions of the woman transform into sheer disappointment at the fact that he is now going to be "alone". The cause of the speaker's disappointment is similar to Leo's in The Go–Between as he foolishly believes Marian has feelings for him, until he experiences his moment of realisation upon reading "darling, darling, darling" demonstrating that the cause of their ... • 21. Descriptive Essay About Snowboarding Ever since I can just about remember I have been Snowboarding. Well first I started off skiing, but I wanted more of a challenge. What got me started was my older brother Daniel when he tried it for the first time, he didn't stick with it because he hit his head to many times (I think he is just a pansy). Him and his friends use to call me hobo Joe, which I kind of liked cause it rhymes with my name Joe and It gave me attention. We would always go to this little ski resort about 20 minutes away from our house and it was a blast, I loved it. I didn't have any friends to go with at the time so I just tagged alot with my older brother which was fine enough. I was 12 years old when we first started planning our trip to go to a resort in Colorado, I remember sitting up at night talking with my older brother, counting down the days till we finally got to leave for our skiing adventure. And to top it all off some of daniel's friends were coming along with our cousin Jodi and oldest brother nick. Even though Daniel and his friends tease me at times I still find it a lot of fun to hang out with them. "Dad how much longer till we finally get to leave?" I would ask my dad with urgency, not understanding at the time that asking ever couple of hours would not make the departure come any faster. Rolling his eyes my dad would answer "This is the fifth time today you asked that question, we are leaving tomorrow morning". Dancing down the hall I hurry to my room that I share with Daniel. When I approached the door I could heard these terrible retching noises coming from behind the door. I peek inside the door to see Daniel with his face in the waste basket. My heart starts to sink, knowing that if Daniel is too sick to travel then we weren't going to be able to leave for this trip. I go tell my parents and then trudgingly flop down on the couch knowing I wasn't going to get very good sleep tonight. • 23. Corruption In William Faulkner's Go Down, Moses William Faulkner wrote in his 1951 novel, Requiem for a Nun, "the past is never dead. It's not even past." This sentiment recurs in Go Down, Moses, which attempts to chronicle the legacies of Lucius McCaslin and his descendants. In his novel, Go Down, Moses, William Faulkner plays with time and chronology to comment on the importance and the irrelevance of history. This contradiction is central to the work's theme of redemption and forgiveness. The way in which the story's events are told are a constant reminder of the family's, and the audience's fumbling attempts to grapple with history, the narrative(s) and the facts. Faulkner structures the story in a way that is disorienting, but ultimately purposeful. Consider "Was", it is essential to ask why Faulkner begins here of all places. It is not, for example, the beginning of the important action, if the book is centered around the corruption of the black bloodline with McCaslin malignance. That event, that rape, of Eunice and later Tomey, by Lucius, poisons the bloodstream for generations. It curses all of the black Beauchamps, and for they live short, tortured lives. That moment of poisoning should have started the novel because of its importance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Rash describes, "the wall of the wilderness behind them now, tremendous and still and seemingly impenetrable in the gray and fading light"(169). Isaac's greatest lesson comes when he finally understands what part he plays in nature and nature in him, when he comes to understand that human beings can never truly overpower the natural world. "Gradually to the boy those old times would cease to be old times and would become a part of the boy's present, not only as if they had happened yesterday but as if they were still happening" ... • 25. Race Relations and Environmental Destruction in William... There is a perverse lie that humans have tricked themselves into believing for generations. Its consequences have proven to be unstoppable, unchangeable, and ultimately catastrophic on a global level. This toxic deception that humankind continues to believe is that the natural world can be conquered and manipulated to serve man's will. However, this craving for control does not end with Mother Nature, but continues with an insatiable hunger to rule over other human beings. William Faulkner, in his novel Go Down, Moses, explores the racial tensions and disastrous environmental results that arose in the South when humankind, believing in this lie, tried to dominate and capitalize off nature and its fellow man. Faulkner attributes the decline of the American South to its economic exploitations and its racial oppression. In "Touching Race in Go Down, Moses" John T. Matthews argues that these two elements were not mutually exclusive but instead were intertwined through their reliance on one another. He describes how the South's capitalism depended on racism, first through slavery and then through wage slavery, "Slavery proper took a people for everything; the wage slavery that succeeded it merely robbed them blind" (25). The prospect black tenants had of being able to earn their own income was quickly eradicated once they realized that their meager wages were merely a façade for keeping them as slaves. As tenants they were still exposed to the extreme violence and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Toronto Football Club Essay The Toronto FC and their Use of International Talent INTRODUCTION The Toronto Football Club (TFC) is a relatively new MLS franchise that has seen immense growth in recent years which consequently makes it an excellent candidate for the analysis of the underlying economic principles that govern its newfound success. One factor that makes the Toronto FC so interesting is its unique labour market that highlights the distinct relationship between labour supply and labour demand. I started smoking weed when I was in 12th grade. My friend Mike invited me over to his house to hang out one Friday night. As soon as I arrived to his house I smelled a strong scent of weed. I already knew what weed smelled like because I've been to many music festivals. When I walked into his backyard I saw my friend Mike and two other kids from my grade that I didn't talk to. That was two red flags at once, yet it still did not stop me. I got one of my big friends to go with me in exchange for some weed. We arrived to the old abounded house and there was nobody to be found. I texted my dealer and told him that I was outside. He told me to walk to the back yard and enter the house through the back door. As I was explaining this to my friend, I could see the fear in his eyes. He pulled out a seven inch pocket knife and said, "I brought this just in case we need to use it". I knew a seven inch pocket knife was not going to do anything against a gun. You may have been walking down the street in D.C. and heard people banging on trash cans and not even realized what kind of music it was. A Home to a well educated black middle class because of institutions like Howard University, DC, unfortunately, experienced a similar urban issue that was the same as with many US cities beginning in the late 1960s. After the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., "the segregation–era black enclave around U Street was left gutted by rioters, a trauma felt through subsequent decades" (Miller, 2012). DC had an influx of black people and poorer people as the middle–class residents left for the suburbs. With a declining tax base, "the city's schools and service institutions could do little to counteract the atmosphere of hopelessness and frustration pervasive in poor black neighborhoods" (Miller, 2012). In the early 1970s, musical pioneer Chuck Brown started to lie down the foundations of what is now called go–go music. The music was "driven by teenage musicians and audience members, the music was heavily inspired by funk, blues, soul, and salsa" (Reynolds, 2015). Go–go is typically identifiable because of its syncopated polyrhythms and the use of multiple percussion instruments. • 53. The Upstream And Downstream Of Seeing By Annie Dillard The Upstream and Downstream of Seeing Annie Dillard's "Seeing" discusses the two possible ways to properly see things and relates them to light versus darkness in nature and upstream versus downstream of a river. The essay explains that there are two ways to see things in the world; to look for something specifically or to let go of the desire to see something. The downstream and the upstream of the river have unique characteristics because they also compare to being darkness and light. By using powerful imagery and word choice, Dillard is able to compare the two types of seeing and explain why letting go of the want to see is the best way to look at things. Dillard's powerful imagery throughout the essay is crucial for understanding the differences in seeing. For example, she is able to describe something as broad as nature by using a simile such as "nature is like one of those line drawings of a tree that are puzzles for children" (19). • 66. Movie Review : Spring Breakers Movie: "Spring Breakers" I chose the movie "Spring Breakers", to illustrate how sexism, rape culture, and sexual assault play an enormous role in society. The movie is about 4 college best friends, Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), Faith (Selena Gomez), Brit (Ashley Benson) and Cotty (Rachel Korine) , who are in need of money so they can go to Florida for their spring–break trip. The girls end up robbing a diner and they head down to Florida. However, the police soon find the group of girls and arrest them. The four college girls are then bailed out of jail by drug dealer and aspiring rap artist, Alien (James Franco). Afterwards, Faith cannot handle the pressure of being a "bad girl" and decides to go home. The other three girls decide to join Alien in a life of crime. The movie "Spring Breakers" is not just a horrible movie, but it boosts rape culture. This movie turns young women into sex objects. In the beginning of the movie, we get a slow–motion shot of breasts as the college students' dance and drink on the beach. Despite the fact that men are also involved, the camera only focuses on the females. The message is clear, the females are the ones "letting loose." Even a scene in the lecture hall shows two of the female protagonists imitate "blow jobs" in the middle of their boring class. In the book "Language and Sexism" by Sara Mills, explains, "Language does indeed reveal to us the values of groups and institutions within our culture in the past who were instrumental in ... • 68. Traffic Congestion and the Pollution it Creates is... According to the Toronto Environmental Office, vehicles are responsible for 35% of all greenhouse gases (GHG) produced in Toronto (City of Toronto, 2011), and the Clean Air Partnership estimates that idling in the GTHA wastes 90 million litres of fuel each year (ibid), which further justifies the need to combat gridlock and traffic congestion with effective government policies. Air is a transboundary problem therefore no one jurisdiction, whether it is a municipality, province, country or continent, can completely control the air in which its residents breathe in. In addition, each have their own authority to uphold air quality for its residents but cannot control the air pollution coming in from neighbouring provinces and countries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cooperation will be key in combating decreasing air quality as a result of gridlock and traffic congestion. Although air quality falls under different jurisdictions and is subject to various laws and regulations that cross municipal and provincial jurisdictions, municipal governments can exert control, even with their limited powers, by creating bylaws that help increase the air quality in Toronto. On top of creating bylaws within the city, the municipalities must ensure that they work with the different levels of governments to pass worthwhile laws and regulations across the province that will help reverse the decreasing air quality in the GTHA and in the province in general. Traffic Congestion has been a problem for those living in the city and those commuting to the city for years now. The Toronto Region Board of Trade (2013) points out how investing in the regional transportation plan, also known as "The Big Move," which was developed by the Province's regional transportation agency Metrolinx, is key to improving roads and highways for drivers across the GTHA (p. 2) and therefore decreasing the negative affects from gridlock and traffic congestion. There a number of ways improvements can be made including, but not limited to, investing in public transportation, improving intraregional bottlenecks (ibid.) and increasing tickets and fines (Heisey, 2013, p. 2), along with many other important changes, all of which will require legal action and political cooperation. ... • 70. Importance of Following Directions The Importance of Following Directions Following directions is one of the most basic and fundamental skills necessary to maintain order in today's society. From the most basic "No!" to a little child to "Don't drink and drive," following directions can save a life and maintain safety, create efficiency in the home, the workplace and at school, and keep basic order to avoid chaos and disarray. "Following directions is an important skill to learn in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the American Civil War (1861– ‐65), General Ulysses S. Grant had a colonel on his staff. (English is sometimes very weird. "Colonel" is pronounced "kernel," as in corn.) The colonel was a dolt. (That's pronounced exactly as it's spelled: dolt, as in "dummy.") Grant knew this, which is why he kept him on his staff. The colonel had one major responsibility: interpreting Grant's orders for Grant. Grant would write an order and hand it to the colonel. The colonel's job was to explain this order in his own words to Grant. If he explained the order wrong, Grant would re– ‐write it. When, finally, the colonel could explain accurately what Grant was really telling his commanders to do, Grant would issue the order. Grant knew his own limitations as a writer of commands. • 72. The Jealous Husband And His Reincarnation Stephen Eason ENG 1500 Dr. Ware 12 September 2016 The jealous Husband and his reincarnation. In "Jealous husband Returns in form of Parrot" Robert Olen Butlers main character is a parrot whose character traits consist of jealousy, insecurity, and lack of confrontment. The Author creates a story that is told from a perspective that is informative but also vivid. The development of the story allows the reader to visually analyze a picture as the story is being told. The overall theme of the story is that relationships are tough when they consist of certain traits. This is shown through the story 's character, tone and symbolism. Within the text there is a character referred to as "The guy from shipping" who the main character is jealous of. His ex– wife mentions this character three times throughout the story which cause him to become enraged and foolish. For example, "Hey, I'm not stupid. She said one thing about him and then another and right after the third one I locked myself in the bathroom because I couldn't rage about this anymore (Butler 2)." When his wife begins to mention other males who lived better lives than that such of his, it caused him to become very jealous. Even though his jealous causes him to become enraged, he doesn't say anything because he feels that it is better to remain silent. The parrot realized that when he was a human he was jealous of the relationship that he and his wife had versus the one she had with other men. For example, and I quote" ... • 74. Change, Regulation, And Boundaries Change, Regulation, and Boundaries Life throws many curveballs. Whether it is good or bad it creates changes throughout an individual's lifetime. For example, the change of getting a promotion at work. There are two main perspectives to getting a promotion. The first perspective, if viewed positively is receiving a higher title, better pay, and more benefits which an individual will be more than happy to accept the change. The second perspective, if viewed negatively is having greater responsibility, working more hours, and dealing with more people which will most likely slow down the individual's ability to manage the change. Regardless of the kind of change an individual goes through it is up to them to manage it effectively and positively. When life has changes it also needs regulation and setting boundaries in order to manage change effectively. While it is up to the individual, it is important to find the best ways to manage change, promote good regulation, and create positive boundaries. Before I enter my future profession as an Accountant I will be going through life with many changes, following regulation, and creating boundaries for myself. Adapting to all these changes, regulations, and boundaries will not be easy. It will be my responsibility to find positive ways to manage these objectives to best fit my character. My first opinion on the best ways to manage change is to stay positive, be patient, have support, and learning to let go. My second opinion on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Themes in Faulkner’s Go Down, Moses Essay Themes in Faulkner's Go Down, Moses The three main themes I can place in Go Down, Moses are the role/significance of family structure (familial relationships), the idea of property/ownership, and the relationship between man and nature. The story "Was" presents a story involving the black branch of the McCaslin family tree (Tomey's Turl is biologically Carothers McCaslin's son who has been betrayed by his father who allows him to be raised as a slave). It establishes a major theme (the idea of being raised by someone other than a biological parent) that will be further developed as the novel progresses ("Delta Autumn" presents a reunion between the black and white branches of the McCaslin family). Because Rider is not related to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here, the importance of family outweighs masculinity (this is saying a lot, considering how Rider is developed as very masculine). In losing his family, Rider is also lost (this ties in with comments I posted here last week on Light in August: "Without a family, a person cannot fit into society, and if a person does not fit into society, he/she is essentially alone."). In "The Old People", the idea of being raised by someone other than a biological parent (seen first with Turl, with McCaslin being raised by his uncles, and with Isaac being raised by McCaslin), It is seen in "The Old People" with the revelation that Sam Feathers was betrayed by his father when he and his mother were sold into slavery. Another major theme that factors heavily into this particular story is the relationship between man and man as well as the relationship between man and nature. In this story, traditions and morals are being passed from one man to another. Interestingly, this parallels man's connection to nature; man is related to nature (signified by referring to the buck as "grandfather") and, therefore, learns from nature as he does from other men. "The Bear" explores, in more depth than any other story, the relationship between man and nature. In this story, the power of nature (it is seen as practically immortal, indomitable, able to overpower almost anything) is embodied by Old Ben. Man's desire to suppress and control nature is seen in the men who want to kill Old Ben. When I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. The Mysterious Library : The Mysterious Library The Mysterious Library 1978, March 21st. That was the last day Bethany Winston had enjoyed her day, went to bed happy and got a good night's sleep. The last day her mother was alive. She was four years old when her mother died, and her life had never been the same. Even after twelve years. Bethany remembered the day as if this horrible time had been yesterday. Her dad had picked her up from kindergarten early, driving her home without speaking a single word. Not the usual 'how was school today?', or even a simple greeting. Her father would not speak to her for days on end. Staying in his room all day, only leaving to pick up another bottle of beer from the kitchen. She learned her mother died the hard way, it's not like her father sat down and talked to her about it. She simply just figured her mother had died, due to the obvious lack of her bright personality. Until the day of the funeral of course, when she knew for sure that her mother was gone. It was now 1990. Twelve years have passed. Bethany, now 16, is still living her depressing life, having trouble in school, and at home. Especially at home. Her father would drive her home every day in his rusty Ford, which reeked of fast food. Then lock himself in his room, and he wouldn't leave until the very next morning for work. Over the years, Bethany became more and more curious about her mother, after all, she was only four years old when her mother died. She really didn't remember much about her mother, other than her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
