Editor's Notes
Good Evening All of you here have chosen to join Boy Scout of America As members of the BSA you should be aware of our Program Aims BSA has developed 8 methods to reach these goals
None of the 8 BSA methods to reach our goals or aims are more important than the other The methods are listed in no particular order and the reason I’m sharing these methods with you is to impress upon you that Advancement is just 1 of the methods Boy Scouting uses to promote growth in moral strength and character, active Citizenship, and Develop physical, mental and emotional fitness in Scouts.
You may remember these are steps you completed to become a “Scout”. But what happens next?
These are the progressive ranks you can earn in Boy Scouts
Rank advancement can ONLY be achieved by learning and practicing a skill or premise (i.e. Outdoor Code) at meetings and other activities. Before a rank advancement is signed off in a Scout’s Handbook he will need to demonstrate or verify to the Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster he has fulfilled the requirement. Once a rank advancement requirement has been signed by a Scoutmaster, the Scout will not be retested on that specific requirement again. The Review process is composed of the Scoutmaster Conference and Board of Review. We will be covering these program elements in depth tonight. Recognition is through the weekly meetings and Quarterly Courts of Honor.
Scout leaders cannot sign off rank requirements for their Scout.
For our purposes and discussions tonight, we are addressing the Rank Advancement Scoutmaster Conference. Scoutmaster Conferences can be held at any time for a variety of reasons.
Tonight we are looking at Rank Advancement Boards of Review. Boards of Review can be held for other reasons.
Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters can not sit on Boards of Review. A parent may not sit on their own Scout’s Board of Review.
Blue Cards and Progress Record cards fit into baseball collector sleeves.
