Adeniyi joined SPIE Oil & Gas Services in Nigeria three years ago, attracted by the company's international dimension and multicultural teams. The pandemic initially impacted his ability to meet clients in person but video conferences allowed work to continue. While his participation in training programs was delayed, he attended an online workshop on leadership principles. Adeniyi now manages business development, tenders, and technical support teams in Nigeria and Ghana. He enjoys working for a subsidiary that is seen as an expert in the oil and gas sector locally and appreciates SPIE's family atmosphere.

What attracted you to the SPIE adventure?
Adeniyi: I joined SPIE Oil & Gas Services in Nigeria three and a half years ago. I was attracted by the
international dimension of SPIE and by the multicultural nature of the teams. I already knew both
French-speaking and English-speaking cultures, having lived in France and originally coming from
Nigeria. It was a way for me to gain responsibility, whilst opening myself up to a wider perspective.
How has the pandemic impacted your professional life?
Adeniyi: In terms of my everyday life, the first lockdown affected the development of my business
as I couldn’t go out and meet with my clients. But the teams quickly adapted to this by organising
video conferences. And then, from May onwards, we were able to visit client sites again.
I have now found my bearings and continue to develop my business. My duties have expanded in
scope as I am now simultaneously responsible for business development, tenders, and managing
the Technical Support departments in Nigeria and Ghana.
The pandemic put my participation in the SPIE Talents programme on hold in 2020, but I will soon
join the online version. In the meantime, I attended an online workshop aimed at raising awareness
of SPIE Leadership Principles. This helped me reflect on how I work with my teams in general,
and in particular during these unusual times. These two training courses are helping me learn
to have the right reflexes as a Manager and how to widen my internal network.
What do you enjoy about working at SPIE?
Adeniyi: The Oil & Gas sector is a pillar of the Nigerian economy. Locally, working for a subsidiary
of SPIE means we are seen as experts. Personally, I feel like I’ve found my place, given the
disciplineandsenseofresponsibilitythatmyjobentails.Iappreciatethe“SPIEFamily”atmosphere!
