This document discusses risks and hazards that could impact the production of a magazine. It identifies several potential risks such as issues finding a suitable photoshoot location, bad weather impacting photoshoots, absent actors, loss or damage of equipment, and dangerous surroundings. Prevention methods are proposed for each risk, such as having backup locations and actors, storing images in multiple places, carefully handling props, and evaluating locations beforehand. The document also covers the intended house style of the magazine focusing on grunge, sharp designs, and injections of color like cyan, yellow and red.

Risk Assessment
There are many factors that could become an
inconvenience for the production of my magazine and
possibly pose a risk to my coursework. Below is a table of
all possible hazards, the risks they may create and the
actions which are necessary for prevention of said events.

replacement photograph
may not fit the House style
of my magazine as the
initial idea would.
To prevent such an event
occurring, I will consider the
possibility of an ideal
location not being accessible
and have a backup location.
I will revise the local area
and search for similar
places in terms of mood.
This way I have an
alternative set of
photographs
Bad weather could influence
the production of my
photographs in several
ways.
A possibility of rain means
the equipment could receive
water damage and also my
actors, props and setting.
The wrong style of weather
could set an undesired mood
A canopy would be an
effective way of protecting
the equipment from water
damage however it would
only provide minimal
shelter and not provide a

magazine is Rock and it will
have a grunge texture,
bright sunny images would
not reflect my magazine

The most realistic action I
can take to take
photographs would be by
checking the weather
forecast. This way I can plan
to take photos when the
weather reflects the mood I
wish to create.
There is a possibility of
absent actors. These actors
may be ill or misinformed of
where to go.
If the actors are in fact ill,
my photographs may be
postponed for an extended
period of time having a
knock on effect on the rest of
my construction plan.
In the event of my actors
going to the wrong place for
the photoshoot, the
inconvenience for them
would frustrate them but
also me as unnecessary time
wasting has occurred and
therefore my plan wouldn’t
have been abided by.
To avoid a delay should my
actors become ill, I shall
recruit a second set of
actors. Having a backup
would mean I could also use
them to take a variety of
photos to base them on
different ‘bands’ and
‘artists’. I could also arrange
a secondary time which is
convenient for both parties
that suits the rest of my
plan. To avoid confusion
with where to go, I could
travel with my actors to the
location which could also
save time.
Loss or theft of equipment To lose possession of the
equipment would initially
mean a series of expenses
would occur as the
equipment is modern
technology. Secondly, other
students’ photographs may
be stored on a harddrive or
a memory stick within the
set of equipment. This would
mean that their work would
be lost and their images
would have to be recreated
at the expense of their time
and effort.
To avoid this I must keep a
checklist of every item
within the bundle of
equipment. Proactively, I
could suggest other
student’s to have an
alternative storage facility
for their images in the case
of loss of the device their
images are on.

present sharp or rigid edges
which would create a risk to
the health of actors and
directors on set.
Additionally, the weight of
the props could be a factor
to also threaten the safety
of everyone on set. Props,
for their purpose could
serve as vital components in
creating a professional,
perfected image. If the props
are damaged they will not
be able to create the same
effect which would be a
drawback for my
production. Also damaged
props would need to be
replaced at the cost of
expenses.
To avoid damaging props, I
will have to take care in
handling them and
constantly evaluate their
conditions. Also I could
suggest everyone on set to
take care with heavier props
or ones with potentially
harmful natures.
The surroundings of the
location I choose to shoot at
may pose as being
dangerous both to the
equipment and the persons
on site.
The surroundings of the
shoot could pose a risk to
the health of everyone there
as well as the equipment.
This is so because, for
example, I am considering a
certain location with ruins
of a building as this area
represents the antisocial,
emotional side of a
teenager’s life. The ruins

evaluate the site before
entering the premises so I
could recognise the hazards
to effectively avoid them.

people at my photoshoot as
they’re potentially unstable
in structure. This hazard
means the building may
crumble or even collapse
potentially landing on my
actors. Secondly, the
equipment I will use would
become vulnerable to the
debris which would trigger
the above risk regarding
damage to equipment. Aside
from this other areas would
present everyday hazards
such as ditches, debris on
the floor or unhygienic
conditions.
House Style
from results, messy like a teenagers bedroom but in a cool
way. Consistent, injections of colour, grunge, white on
black, shards or sharp edged sections, cinematic
background for double page spread, white title, low sat.
photo, vignette, etc. I imagine my ‘injection of colours to
be either a Cyan style, Yellow or both, additionally I may
choose to include a shade of Red - these are close to what
is understood to be primary colours which links back to
the youthamistic side of my target audience. To avoid
insulting my target audience the style of the magazine
will, to an extent, contrast the colour scheme of Red, Cyan
and Yellow because it will be loud, certainly aggressive
and rebellious to reflect Rock music as a Genre.

5. Product Information
“Rxck”, on its own, integrated into a short phrase or an
evolution of the word, will be the label of my magazine.My
magazine will be designed to be a monthly issue. To do
this I will design it as a hard copy for durability, much
more content and a sign of consideration into the time it
will take the reader to process the whole magazine. I
believe Bauer Media to be the best suited publisher to
produce my magazine.This is because Bauer Media
produce many popular magazines such as Kerrang which
just shows the relevance to my magazine. Because my
magazine would be new to the market, I am looking for a
publisher with the budget to publish my magazine
successfully. My magazine will look to promote smaller
bands & artists that are believed to be ‘up and coming’.
This edge brings originality to the magazine and if it were
a real life scenario, and a featured band did as predicted,
publicity would be raised regarding the magazine and
potentially boosting success. I plan to include three offers
with each issue. Many similar magazines such as Kerrang
offer maybe one or two, but as mine will be monthly
(unlike Kerrang which is weekly) I need to consider the

6. absence of other offers that are non existent during that
month as there is no other issue. Similarly, I need to
consider events and news further into the future as
affairs happening, say; a fortnight from the latest issue
release, will not be coverable by the previous issue and
when the next issue is due, the news may be outdated.
To better suit my audience, I will fluctuate the general
genre of the music featured in each issue. Despite this
fluctuation, the genres will be similar and consistant as I
want to attract one main group of people consistently.
These sub-genres contain: Grunge, Pop Rock,
Singer/Songwriter and a few others. Initially, I was going
to focus on Grunge but considering the high percentage of
females answering my survey, I need to accompany their
needs. I adapted my focus Genre as Grunge is perceived to
be male dominated.
