The 137-page Human Rights Watch report details how the Ethiopian government has acquired surveillance technologies from companies in China, the UK, Italy, and Germany to spy on perceived political opponents in Ethiopia and among the diaspora. The report accuses the government of installing spyware on computers and using imported technology to spy on phones and computers in order to silence dissent.
This document summarizes a court case regarding a claim of racial discrimination in a failure to promote. It discusses the facts of the case, in which the plaintiff, an African American man, applied for but was denied a promotion to the position of Highway Maintenance County Supervisor, and the person selected was white. The plaintiff is appealing these two evidentiary rulings.
The document discusses a case where an African American employee, Greg Cobbins, sued his employer the Tennessee Department of Transportation for racial discrimination after being denied a promotion. At the initial trial, the judge improperly excluded key evidence that Cobbins sought to introduce to show that the reasons given for denying him the promotion were pretextual. Specifically, the judge did not allow Cobbins to introduce evidence that the promoted employee lied about his education qualifications or that Cobbins' negative performance reviews were given by a supervisor who had previously discriminated against him. Without this evidence, Cobbins lost at trial. However, on appeal the appeals court found that the excluded evidence should have been allowed and ordered a new trial. The document analyzes how this case
This document provides the program for Tennessee State University's 31st Annual University-Wide Research Symposium from March 30th to April 3rd, 2009. The symposium celebrates 10 years of exoplanet discoveries at TSU and commemorates 400 years since Galileo's first telescope observations. The program includes oral and poster presentations over several days covering various topics from astronomy to psychology. It also recognizes TSU's role in ongoing astronomical research and discovery.
This document provides information about the Center of Excellence for Learning Sciences at Tennessee State University, including its programs, projects, research initiatives, and contact information.
