Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala

9. 2. SMART Goals
Specific = Outcome = What do I want to achieve?
Measurable = How will I know when it is accomplished?
Achievable = How realistic is it based on the constrains?
Relevant = How is this goal aligned with the Purpose?
Time bound= When?
10. 2. Example of a typical goal
“Change the current time tracking system to a new one in 3 months.”
11. 2. Building a SMART goal
All users successfully use the new system in 3 months
Specific=
• All Users know what to do, how to do it, when to do it, and have no blockers
• No delays in the Billing process, Payroll process, Reporting process
All users know how to use the system, have no blockers, and there are no
delays in the related process by the end of the 3 months
12. Measurable:
1. Number of users trained
• My target is 100%
2. How long do the monthly reports take to generate
• My target is equal or less than now
2. Building a SMART goal
All users know how to use the system, have no blockers, and there are no
delays in related process by the end of the 3 months
13. Achievable=How realistic is it to achieve this goal?
Do I have stakeholders support? YES
Do I have the knowledge? No, but the contract includes that the provider will
train us on using the system.
Do I have financial resources? The software was already purchased so I do not
have to buy anything
Etc.
2. Building a SMART goal
100% of users know how to use the system, have no blockers, and there
are NO delays in the related process by the end of the 3 months
14. Relevant =
YES – this project is directly related to eliminating inefficiencies.
2. Building a SMART goal
100% of users know how to use the system, have no blockers, and there
are NO delays in the related process by the end of the 3 months
15. My actual deadline is 2.5 months
2. Building a SMART goal
100% users know how to use the system, have no blockers, and there are
NO delays in the related process by the end of the 2.5 months.
100% of users know how to use the system, have no blockers, and there
are NO delays in the related process by the end of the 3 months
Time bound = 3 months
16. 2. Building a SMART goal
100% of users know how to use the system, have no blockers, and there are NO
delays in the related process by the end of the 2.5 months
Change the current time tracking system to a new one in 3 months.
19. 3. Strategies
Timeboxing = Assign a fixed
period of time to a task, schedule
it and stick to it. When time is up,
stop then, you assess whether
you've reached your planned
goals
20. 3. Strategy : Timeboxing process
Plan
• What should I do?
• How much time will it take?
• What outcome is needed?
Act
• Execute your plan
Evaluate
• Did I complete it? If not, why?
• Did I achieve the outcome?
• What did I learn?
22. 5. ACT – You are the Cause
• “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.”
Charles R. Swindoll
• The Law of Cause and Effect
