The Access to Global Capital Initiative aims to accelerate global growth by linking multinational firms and global investors with transparent and effective governments in emerging markets. It does this by increasing capital flows, transparency, and economic cooperation between these groups. The initiative develops tools like the Global Opportunity Index to help attract foreign direct investment. It also convenes leaders from business, finance, and government at conferences and events to encourage good governance, capital access, and long-term economic prosperity.
As regulatory trends echo across the globe, we looked to the east for June’s regulatory update.
When it comes to financial regulation, Asia is traditionally thought to lag behind Europe and, in turn the US. But with FATF currently focusing on Singapore, and the region seen as a hub for Fintech innovation, are there trends which may hit the UK coming from the other direction?

1. ACCESS TO GLOBAL
CAPITAL INITIATIVE
OURPROGRAM
Business is more globalized than ever, yet many international investors and multinational corporations
are sitting on large balance sheets and struggling to find yield. Opportunities are materializing in
emerging markets: In 2012, for the first time ever, developing economies absorbed more FDI than
developed countries. As investors regain confidence, global FDI flows are expected to increase from
the current $1.35 trillion to $1.8 trillion by 2015. In an effort to attract that capital, governments around
the world must adopt effective policies and regulatory regimes, provide more credible information,
and move toward recognized best practices to solidify their countries’ long-term investment climates.
The Milken Institute’s Access to Global Capital Initiative, developed in partnership with Liquidnet,
is leading the way to accelerate global growth and economic prosperity. By linking multinational firms
and global investors with effective governments, the Initiative increases transparency, creates more
seamless flows of capital and commerce, and fuels economic growth and improved living standards.
In short, we are bringing capital to the table to encourage good governance and planning.
