The author revisits sites where the rare Tumamoc globeberry plant was previously observed to check on the status of the populations. At Sabino Canyon, the population appeared to be recovering well after floods in 2006. However, at the type locality on Tumamoc Hill, plants were very difficult to find. Lady bird
There are 46 species of ladybirds in Britain, though not all are brightly colored. Ladybirds eat aphids and other garden pests. The seven-spot ladybird is most common and inspired the name "ladybird", referring to the Virgin Mary's red cloak and seven joys/sorrows. Ladybirds go through complete metamorphosis, starting as eggs then larvae, pupating, and emerging as adults. Their bright colors warn of their unpleasant taste as a defense.

Adult Hikes
The document announces several nature and outdoor programs being offered at Havenwoods for adults and youth over 12. The programs include:
1) A learn to geocache program on May 31st and October 18th where participants will learn how to use GPS units to locate hidden caches around Havenwoods.

Natural Dyes Poster
This document announces a workshop on April 7th from 2:00-3:30pm at the Schmeeckle Visitor Center to learn about using plants to create natural dyes through taking a look at vibrant colors in nature. Attendees can stay after the workshop for an optional hands-on session to experiment with making dyes from plants in their own backyard and take home their creation and recipes. Registration is required by calling 715-346-4992 and there is a $6 fee for the workshop.

Forest Cemetery is hosting an event to take visitors on a journey through the rich history of Stevens Point by exploring the cemetery, which can provide fascinating historical and cultural information beyond times of sadness. The free event will be held on May 7th from 5:30-6:30pm in Forest Cemetery, where visitors should park near the Patch Street entrance between Church Street and Michigan Avenue.

Santa Rosa National Park is home to a diverse array of reptiles and amphibians, ranging from common leopard frogs to massive green sea turtles. These species play important roles as both predators and prey in the ecosystem. However, they are also quite sensitive to environmental changes. Increasing threats like habitat destruction, pollution, and human exploitation are endangering many reptile and amphibian species in the park. Visitors are encouraged to be on the lookout for these animals during their exploration of Santa Rosa National Park.

It also provides themes, descriptions of site resources and habitats, and conceptual media designs for new signage and a trail pamphlet. Sand prairies occur in sandy soils left by glaciers, where the fluctuating water table allows for diverse plant and animal life. These ecosystems support grasses like big and little bluestem as well as animals ranging from meadow voles and grasshoppers to predators like the northern harrier. The sandy soils, grasses, and abundance of prey make sand prairies a vibrant habitat.

The name comes from their courtship song which sounds like “bob-o-link”. The bobolink’s unique black and white patterns create a camouflage in the yellow and tan grasses which help it to hide from hungry predators. The distinct “13 line” pattern which runs down their back is a form of camouflage. They also “picket pin” where they stand on their hind legs at attention and look for danger. These ground squirrels also use underground borrows and runways which they scamper between on sunny days. Indian Grass Can you spot this grass? It may be growing taller than you! Indian grass can grow up to 10 feet tall. It is also an important food source for many prairie critters. American Kestrel This small falcon is beautiful and deadly. It is also called a “sparrow hawk” for being able to pluck songbirds in midflight. Kestrels will also eat small rodents and insects. A hunting advantage for a kestrel is the ability to see ultraviolet (UV) light. This is a bright neon trail which will lead to a tasty vole.
