ABSTRACT
The report describe the results obtained from a tensile test. This was in determination of the ultimate tensile strength of both metals and polymeric materials. It is common knowledge that materials have certain unique properties but assigning the exact values to them requires a well outlined laboratory procedure. The materials under testing were; steel, aluminum, high density polyethylene, and low density polyethylene. The results obtained were analyzed and presented in graphical form.

Dynamic Analysis of Double-Skin Composite Steel PlatesIOSR Journals
Double Skin Composite (DSC) plates are subjected to impact required to cause complete perforation and the accompanied failure modes are investigated. The amount of energy absorbed is calculated by capturing the residual velocity of penetrator after perforating the lower plate. The difference in initial kinetic energy and residual kinetic energy is the amount of energy absorbed by the panel. In the present paper a non-linear three-dimensional finite element models for Double Skin Composite panels subjected to dynamic loading is introduced. Pilot model is used to investigate the failure pattern in the composite panel when subjected to impact loads by rigid steel penetrator, while the other models are used to analyze the energy absorption capacity of such system when perforated. Results showed that such elements have good ability of absorbing energy when subjected to perforation, due to ductility of lower plate skin and vertical stiffness of lower shear studs.

Study on Influence of heat treatment on Tribological properties of mild steeldbpublications
A study was made on the effect of heat treatment upon the mild steel. Total six samples were prepared for each test (hardness test, tensile test, microstructure test and wear test) from those two was tested as received and rest four were subjected to different heat treatment that are annealing and normalizing (heated on a temperature of 850 degree Celsius). The hardness of all sample was measured by Rockwell hardness testing machine. Wear measurement was done on pin-on disc wear machine. Tensometer was used to find out the ultimate stress and strain of the sample. The result of tensile test showed that the strength is decreased by heat treating and the surface hardness is also decreased by heat treatment. Microstructure of the mild steel specimens shows the grain boundary of the particles and the content of % of carbon present. It justifies the experimental results of tensile test and hardness test. Surface Hardness is the measure of resistance that any material applies. As the specimen gets soft on treating the hardness also gets decreased. Tensile strength of any specimen is specified as how much stress the material can withstand before breaking. As the metal gets soft after heat treatment the load required for breaking goes on decreasing. Wear test is carried out to see the variation in wear measurement and coefficient of friction as the mesh size of paper are varied. More soft the surface of material is more wear is seen and vice-versa.

This paper presents a study on flexural behaviour of concrete filled steel tube based on the former
work carried out by Manojkumar. An ANSYS model is developed that can predict the behaviour of concrete
filled steel tube to determine moment carrying capacity at ultimate point for beam Concrete filled steel tube
beams are studied and verified by the finite element program ANSYS against experimental data. The Main
parameters affecting the behaviour and strength of concrete filled beams are geometrical parameters, material
nonlinearities, loading, boundary conditions and degree of concrete confinement. To account for all these
properties ANSYS model is developed. The main parameters varied in analysis study are D/t ratio,
characteristic strength of infilled concrete. The proposed model predicts ultimate moment capacity for CFT
beams. In the numerical analysis, circular and rectangular CFT cross sections are considered using different
grades of concrete. The predicted values are compared with experimental results. Numerical analysis has
shown that for rectangular CFT’s a good confining effect can be provided. Moment capacity results obtained
from the ANSYS model are compared with the values predicted by Lin Han (2004) and different codes such as
AISC-LRFD (1999) and EC4 (1994).
This paper involves an experimental investigation on the flexural behaviour of curved beams and comparison of its results with conventional beams. Curved beams of size 1200 x 150 x 100 mm with varying initial curvature as 4000mm, 2000mm and the concrete strength as M40 is considered. Various reinforcement are provided in the curved beams to predict which reinforcement detail would give more resistant over maximum loading. The material properties of cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate and the compressive strength of concrete cube were found out. A total of 12 specimens of curved beams were casted with various combination of reinforcement along with three control specimens. The beams are tested under two point loading both horizontally and vertically. The deflection and maximum moment carrying capacity are investigated to understand its strength. Also analytical modelling is done to determine the ultimate moment carrying capacity using Finite Element Software ABAQUS to compare with the experimental model.

ABSTRACT : This study comparatively evaluated the flexural performance and deformation characteristics of concrete beams reinforced with bamboo, cane and the twisted steel rebar. The yield strength (YS), ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and the elongation of nine specimens of the three materials were determined using a universal testing machine. Nine beams of concrete strength 22 MPa at age 28 days were constructed separately reinforced with steel, bamboo, and cane bars, while the stirrups were steel bars. The beams were subjected to centre-point flexural loading according to ASTM C0293 to evaluate the flexural strength. The tensile strength of bamboo and rattan bars was 43% and 13% of that of steel in the same order. The elongation of bamboo, rattan and steel were 11.5%, 14% and 15.7% respectively. The experimental flexural strength of bamboo and cane reinforced concrete beams was 34% and 26% respectively of the conventional steel RC beams. The remarkable gap between the flexural capacities of the natural rebar and that of steel can be traced not only to the tensile strength but also the weak bonding at the bar-concrete interface. It can be concluded that the bamboo bars are suitable rebar for non-load bearing and lightweight RC flexural structures, while more pre-strengthening treatment is required more importantly for rattan for improved interfacial bonding and load-carrying capacity.

Correlation between the Interface Width and the Adhesion Strength of Copper F...IOSRJAP
The present study has been conducted in order to determine the influence of negative bias voltage applied to substrate on adhesion of copper films deposited on carbon steel substrates. The adhesion strength has been evaluated by the scratch test. Coatings were deposited by a DC magnetron sputtering system. The substrates were firstly mechanically polished and then ion-etched by argon ions prior to deposition. Adhesion was found to increase with the bias voltage. The critical load had a value of 9.5 g for an unbiased substrate and reached 18.5 g for a bias voltage of 600 V. Equally important, the interface width, measured using Auger electron spectroscopy, increased as a function of the bias voltage. The width of the interface is related to the time of ion milling in the Auger spectrometer. The size of this width is obtained from the Auger elemental depth profiles through measuring the depth of the interface coating/substrate. The width had a value of 335 min with a bias of 600 V whereas it didn't exceed 180 min when the substrate was unbiased. Therefore, the effect of the bias voltage was to expand the interface because of the diffusion phenomenon and physical mixing of materials at the interface. Moreover, the critical load increased with the increase of the interface width.

ABSTRACT : This study comparatively evaluated the flexural performance and deformation characteristics of concrete beams reinforced with bamboo, cane and the twisted steel rebar. The yield strength (YS), ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and the elongation of nine specimens of the three materials were determined using a universal testing machine. Nine beams of concrete strength 22 MPa at age 28 days were constructed separately reinforced with steel, bamboo, and cane bars, while the stirrups were steel bars. The beams were subjected to centre-point flexural loading according to ASTM C0293 to evaluate the flexural strength. The tensile strength of bamboo and rattan bars was 43% and 13% of that of steel in the same order. The elongation of bamboo, rattan and steel were 11.5%, 14% and 15.7% respectively. The experimental flexural strength of bamboo and cane reinforced concrete beams was 34% and 26% respectively of the conventional steel RC beams. The remarkable gap between the flexural capacities of the natural rebar and that of steel can be traced not only to the tensile strength but also the weak bonding at the bar-concrete interface. It can be concluded that the bamboo bars are suitable rebar for non-load bearing and lightweight RC flexural structures, while more pre-strengthening treatment is required more importantly for rattan for improved interfacial bonding and load-carrying capacity.

Correlation between the Interface Width and the Adhesion Strength of Copper F...IOSRJAP
The present study has been conducted in order to determine the influence of negative bias voltage applied to substrate on adhesion of copper films deposited on carbon steel substrates. The adhesion strength has been evaluated by the scratch test. Coatings were deposited by a DC magnetron sputtering system. The substrates were firstly mechanically polished and then ion-etched by argon ions prior to deposition. Adhesion was found to increase with the bias voltage. The critical load had a value of 9.5 g for an unbiased substrate and reached 18.5 g for a bias voltage of 600 V. Equally important, the interface width, measured using Auger electron spectroscopy, increased as a function of the bias voltage. The width of the interface is related to the time of ion milling in the Auger spectrometer. The size of this width is obtained from the Auger elemental depth profiles through measuring the depth of the interface coating/substrate. The width had a value of 335 min with a bias of 600 V whereas it didn't exceed 180 min when the substrate was unbiased. Therefore, the effect of the bias voltage was to expand the interface because of the diffusion phenomenon and physical mixing of materials at the interface. Moreover, the critical load increased with the increase of the interface width.

While I had no clue what to expect, I knew I was going to be in for an incredible ride as soon as the movie began with the intense dialogue between Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and Solomon Lane (Sean Harris). From beginning to end, Mission: Impossible- Fallout delivers crazy action-thriller scenes, inventive special effects, and creative cinematography.
Mission: Impossible-Fallout is based on a story of an American agent who must retrieve nuclear weapons from an enemy terrorist organization with help of his specialized IMF team. The film was consistent the first hour with it involving the audience in the mission of the secret organization and trying to figure out the next move of the evil organization known as the Apostles. However, towards the middle of the movie it was revealed that one of the CIA agents was playing the role of a double spy and was on the side of the Apostles. The plot delivered intense action-packed scenes between the opposing groups that personally had me at the edge of my seat. Whether it was a chase on motorcycles, cars, speedboats, or helicopters, each scene had Ethan Hunt running for his life to save the world. Even though I was only viewing the movie from a comfortable movie theater, Hunt zigzagging through the traffic of France on a motorcycle had my fists clenched and adrenaline pumping. However, that was not even the best thriller of the movie. Ethan Hunt trailing Agent Walker in a helicopter with heavy rounds of artillery being fired at each other through the snowcapped mountains of Kashmir may very well be one of the best action scenes in cinematic history. Mission: Impossible-Fallout can be appreciated and enjoyed by all audiences because of its action-packed scenes that keep everyone extremely engaged in the plot.
Mission: Impossible-Fallout brilliantly illustrates the amazing special effects that serve to create the theme and style of the film. From creating bloody wounds to spectacular backgrounds, special effects are abundant throughout the movie. For instance, as Hunt is jumping off an airplane, the special effects of this scene include wind, rain, thunder, and clouds that make the film visually appealing and almost realistic. The thunder striking him as he is skydiving had my jaw wide open simply because of how incredible the illusion was displayed. In almost every fight between Hunt’s team and the Apostles, multiple types of special effects were utilized. Fighting sequences with Hunt angrily running towards Lane and delivering devastating punches accompanied by “POWs” and “AAAHs” seemed so realistic that it had me feeling queasy in my stomach. Life is a collection of moments, and some memories last forever. Brian Evenson

life-long memory of his sister. In spite of the fact that his mother insists that the sister did not
exist, the protagonist stuck to this belief until his old age. The basis of the protagonist’s
problems is the intense love and unforgettable memories he shared with his imagined sister.
A great portion of his childhood memories is centered around his sister and their exploration
of the windeye. Windeye, the corruption of the word window, is a portal that causes the
disappearance of the protagonist’s sister. The popular portal fantasy, Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland, illustrates a similar story in the same sub-genre where a girl travels through a
rabbit hole and experiences a fantasy world which chronicles her changes from naive child-
like responses to more adult-like problem solving reactions. In “Windeye,” Brian Evenson
utilizes the portal trope to develop conflict and outcomes while exploring the themes of time
and memory. In both stories, the use of the portal trope creates a distinct world that is
separate from reality; however, the outcomes are different, and ultimately, Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland presents the theme of growth while “Windeye” explores time and memories.
The use of time factors allows the reader to travel back to the origin of the story in “Windeye” and experience the beginning of the central conflict. It is in his past that the

Electric cars have become increasingly popular in the past century. These cars use
electric motors instead of conventional gasoline engines. Electric cars pollute less and utilize
energy more efficiently than gas-powered vehicles; therefore, modern research is focusing on
improving electric vehicles, such as increasing the storage capacity of the batteries. This essay
seeks to identify the differences and similarities between the two types of cars focusing on their
performance, price, and convenience.
An electric car is a car that is primarily powered by electricity. The conventional gas-
powered cars require diesel or gasoline to power the engines. These cars have gas tanks that store
fuel and the engine converts the gas to the energy that powers the motor. Similarly, electric cars
have batteries, or fuel cells that store and convert electricity to energy used to propel electric
motors (What Are Electric Cars?). Four components present in electric cars distinguish it from
the gas-powered cars (Alternative Fuels Data Center: How Do All-Electric Cars Work?). The
first is the charge port. Since electricity powers an electric car, there has to be a port to connect
to an external power source when charging the battery. The second is an electric traction motor
that propels the vehicle. The third is a traction battery pack. This battery serves the same purpose
as the gas tank; thus, it stocks electric power to propel the motor. The forth is a direct current
converter. This component converts the current to low voltage power that is needed to power the
electric engine.

who reveals a lot of real life emotions and details in her works, she constantly refines
and shares her emotional connection with her audience. In her new album, people find
resonance in her work, connect it with their own lives. "Reputation" is not only the
original efforts of Taylor Swift, but also means that she turned gorgeously and
dominated. This album is like a swearing word from her to the world. Revenge fantasy,

Executions Should Be Televised
Earlier this month, Georgia conducted its third execution this year. This would have passed relatively unnoticed if not for a controversy surrounding its videotaping. Lawyers for the condemned inmate, Andrew Grant DeYoung, had persuaded a judge to allow the recording of his last moments as part of an effort to obtain evidence on whether lethal injection caused unnecessary suffering.
Though he argued for videotaping, one of Mr. DeYoung’s defense lawyers, Brian Kammer, spoke out against releasing the footage to the public. “It’s a horrible thing that Andrew DeYoung had to go through,” Mr. Kammer said, “and it’s not for the public to see that.”
We respectfully disagree. Executions in the United States ought to be made public.
Right now, executions are generally open only to the press and a few select witnesses. For the rest of us, the vague contours are provided in the morning paper. Yet a functioning democracy demands maximum accountability and transparency. As long as executions remain behind closed doors, those are impossible. The people should have the right to see what is being done in their name and with their tax dollars.
This is particularly relevant given the current debate on whether specific methods of lethal injection constitute cruel and unusual punishment and therefore violate the Constitution.
There is a dramatic difference between reading or hearing of such an event and observing it through image and sound. (This is obvious to those who saw the footage of Saddam Hussein’s hanging in 2006 or the death of Neda Agha-Soltan during the protests in Iran in 2009.) We are not calling for opening executions completely to the public — conducting them before a live crowd — but rather for broadcasting them live or recording them for future release, on the web or TV.
When another Georgia inmate, Roy Blankenship, was executed in June, the prisoner jerked his head, grimaced, gasped, and lurched, according to a medical expert’s affidavit. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Mr. DeYoung, executed in the same manner, “showed no violent signs in death.” Voters should not have to rely on media accounts to understand what takes place when a man is put to death.
Cameras record legislative sessions and presidential debates, and courtrooms are allowing greater television access. When he was an Illinois state senator, President Obama successfully pressed for the videotaping of homicide interrogations and confessions. The most serious penalty of all surely demands equal if not greater scrutiny.

Reflective Essay
Becoming a good writer is a challenging and continuous process that need to constantly improving your writing skills in different area as same as constructive reflection for identification of both progress and directions for further development. My writing competence has improved significantly during the ten weeks of English 3001 Writing Proficiency course in such areas as grammar, use of verb tenses, and content quality.
The most serious problems I faced in writing process previously were grammar issues and poor content of the essays. To be more precise, I used to lack empirical competence in proper use of verb tenses. My confusions of tense forms destroyed all the sense of the essay, and often improper sentence structure made the result of the writing process insufficient to meet the University Writing Skills Requirements. Initially, when I tried to improve my skills in the given area, I only paid attention to the highlighted mistakes and comments of the tutor. Nonetheless, I realized it was not enough. Therefore, I changed this strategy to a more constructive one. To be more precise, I started reading more books in English and wrote essays diverse topics apart from the course tasks. It was an effective type of training since in several weeks my essays revealed particular progress which I took into consideration and continued.
I realize that it does not suffice to finally meet the University Writing Skills Requirements since this is only a fraction of real competence in writing. The next step of self-improvement the given sphere is editing that also has numerous issues and challenges to be dealt with. It means that there are two domains within the notion of writing competence, and both of them have no limits and require constant self-improvement. Therefore, my goal to meet academic requirements is only one more step in the course of acquisition of linguistic competence and capacity to master English in terms of writing essays and academic papers.
Moreover, I know that currently I need to focus more on content issues, persuasive capacity and proper use of diverse materials employed to support evidence which are crucial elements of writing papers per University requirements. On the other hand, I see that all the core problems with linguistic competence which I have faced earlier, are solved, which means that I need to focus on further self-improvement and keep constructive work in order to achieve my next targets in the field of concern. Furthermore, I have considerable progress in such important dimensions of academic paper construction as thesis development, use of testimony and personal observations, and alignment of different ideas into a coherent, justified and credible academic entity. Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. ABSTRACT
The report describe the results obtained from a tensile test. This
was in determination of the ultimate tensile strength of both
metals and polymeric materials. It is common knowledge that
materials have certain unique properties but assigning the exact
values to them requires a well outlined laboratory procedure.
The materials under testing were; steel, aluminum, high density
polyethylene, and low density polyethylene. The results
obtained were analyzed and presented in graphical form.
INTRODUCTION
The Ultimate Tensile strength of a material is the maximum
amount of stress that a given material can tolerate when pulling
forces are applied at both ends, without failing. Ultimate
Tensile strength is differentiated from compressive strength in
that the former is acted upon by forces that pull a material
outwards on both sides while the latter is acted upon by forces
that push a material inwards. (David, 2008) Tensile strength is
determined by using a cylindrical sample of known length and
cross sectional area and subjecting it to tensile forces in a
tensile machine. Most commonly used tensile machines include:
lab master z-direction tensile tester and universal tester. (David,
2008) When the tests are carried out, the stress-strain
relationships is easily determined hence making it easy to
deduce the ultimate tensile strength of the material specimen
and its young’s modulus.
When designing for rigid structures, the properties of various
construction materials need to be determined. (David, 2008)The
reason being materials are subject to external forces when used
in construction of structures. Different materials have different
properties due to differences in their molecular structure. This
fact is evident in the case of metals and polymeric samples
2. which exhibit different physical and chemical properties due to
variances in molecular structure and in extension atomic
composition. This makes them react differently to when
subjected to external forces. Metal are generally stronger than
polymers hence used in area which experience heavy loading in
a structure. In order for one to find the most suitable material
for a particular project, material property needs to be known,
with the most natural property being tensile strength.
Steel and aluminum are the most commonly used metals in
construction projects. They have both high electrical and
thermal conductivity, relatively high densities, high melting
points, and both high ultimate and yield strength. (Gordon,
1976)Steel is mostly used together with concrete to form rigid
structure such as buildings and dams. Aluminum is mostly used
in construction of planes, electric cables and engine blocks.
Polymeric materials have both low electrical and thermal
conductivity, relatively low densities, low melting points and
both low ultimate and yield strength. Low density polyethylene
is used in making of playground slides, six pack rings, and
plastic wraps. High density polyethylene is used in making of
fuel tanks for vehicles, 3-D printer filaments, and swimming
pool installations. (David, 2008)
THEORETICAL
After carrying out tensile tests, the data obtained needs to be
analyzed. This is achieved by use of engineering formulae
related to stress and strain. They include:

PROCEDURE
1. Visual inspection of the sample was done to identify possible
flaws.
2. The width, thickness, and length of the metal and polymeric
samples were measured.
3. The machine’s computer was calibrated with the results
obtained in procedure two and prepared to receive data and
present it graphical form.
4. Steel specimen was placed in the tensile machine and
clamped in place.
5. The machine was activated and force and elongation readings
displayed were noted and recorded.
6. Procedure two, three, and four was repeated for aluminum,
low density polyethylene, and high density polyethylene
specimens.
7. The data was analyzed by and presented in graphical form.

DISCUSSION
Materials behave differently when acted upon by external
forces. Some deform more than others while some fracture
almost immediately. This behavior is governed by the properties
each material possesses. In order to determine these properties,
5. a series of tests is carried out each material. An example of such
a test is the tensile test. Specimens of known dimensions are
tested and in this case their thickness were constant at 0.12
inches. The materials whose properties were to be determined
were steel, aluminum, high and low density polyethylene. The
first two are known as metals while the last two are known as
polymeric.
When steel was subjected to the test, the ultimate tensile stress
was found to be 23 ksi while that of Aluminum was found to be
4.6 ksi. Though both of them are metals, they possess different
tensile strength due to variation in the constitution and atomic
structures. However both experience are reasonable length of
linear relationship in stress-strain graphs. When high density
polyethylene was subjected to test, its ultimate tensile strength
was found to 0.896 ksi while that of low density polyethylene
was found to be 0.494 ksi. The difference is brought about by
the difference in intermolecular forces. High density
polyethylene has a higher tensile strength as compare to low
density polyethylene, because the former has strong
intermolecular forces due to little branching while the latter has
weak intermolecular forces.
During testing, it is found that both the metals and polymeric
materials undergo necking beyond a certain elongation. The
necking is caused by localized and increased flow in the length
of the sample when the maximum true stress is reached. It is at
a point when the localized flow cannot be reimbursed by further
strain hardening. The polymeric materials further experience
drawing. It is phenomenon where the neck spans the full length
of the specimen. The cross section areas of the specimens affect
the ultimate tensile strength of materials but their lengths do
not. It is due to increase in interplanar bond between adjacent
cross sections. These bonds are stronger in specimens with large
cross section areas. This is the reason for keeping the thickness
constant.
However, the values obtained in this experiment were
significantly smaller as compare to the standard values. This
6. could be as a result of human error during the experiment.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, it is found that metals have higher ultimate
strengths as compared to polymeric materials. The order of
strength in descending order is steel, aluminum, high density
polyethylene, and low density polyethylene respectively. The
shear graph for the materials turned out as expected. They
obeyed hook’s law at first and when the yield strength was
reached, they formed a curve to signify permanent deformation.
The necking of the metals occurred as anticipated with the outer
region showing signs of shear failure and the middle region
showing signs of tensile failure.
