M.A.D. Making A Difference by Learning English Through Projects:
Projects provide an authentic and real-world context for connecting learning activities,
incorporating higher-order thinking skills and engaging students in the learning
process. The main reason for Learning English through projects is that the learners are
to take more responsibility for their own learning by knowing what and why they learn
through projects and the outcome of it in their lives. My experience in carrying out the
Projects-based learning has indeed been very beneficial and enjoyable. The students
learn independently through the use of 21st century skills, likewise teachers have to do
extensive reading and research to ensure they are well-equipped too. Project based
learning has to be carried out within 1 month including making brochure to inform the
students what the project is, conducting a survey on the eating habits among students
in school, designing flyers, creating posters and holding a competition on Making
Healthy Sandwiches. All the different findings are presented using 21st century skills to
participants of 20 schools by 4 students in a PBL Colloquium in the school. During the
Colloquium participants were taught how to do brochures, flyers, posters and graphic
presentation on feedbacks of the survey. The most interesting part of this project was
that the participants were given the hands-on making healthy sandwiches using only
fruits and raw vegetables. Learning through projects seems to make a difference in the
students and their way of learning.
