GiftAbled is a social enterprise which strives
to create an ecosystem of like-minded
individuals to collectively build an inclusive
society.
About GiftAbled

• From 21.9 million in 2001, the percentage of people with disabilities
(PWDs) in India has gone up to 26.8 million in 10 years — from
2.13% to 2.21% of the total population
• There are 14.9 million men with disabilities as compared to 11.8
million women in the country. The percentage of men with
disabilities is 2.41 as against 2.01 in women.
• There are over 18 million PWDs in the rural areas and 8.1 million
enumerated in urban settings.
• The proportion of women suffering from seeing, hearing and
multiple disabilities is higher than men.
The World of disability – A glimpse

• Over 5.4 million people have some form of physical disability
• Hearing impairment affects 5.07 million
• 5.03 million have problems with their vision
• About 2 million have a speech disability
• 2 million are affected by mental retardation and other mental
illnesses

were in higher education in India despite the
mandated 3 per cent quota
• Less than 1 per cent people with disabilities
are meaningfully employed across sectors
• Only 0.3 per cent of the mandated 3 per cent

• Inclusion Matters
 An innovative way of experiencing and living what it feels like to be a person with disability.
• Workshops for Non Disabled
 Intro to Braille and Sign Language: A quick course to familiarise people with the basics of braille and American
Sign Language
 Disability Sensitisation Workshop
 Workplace Adaptability: Training and support to create accessible environments
 Workforce sensitisation workshop: Sensitising peers on working with PWDs
• Workshops for Disabled
 Communication/English classes for Hearing Impaired
 Soft skill trainings for PWD employees
• Volunteering
 Interacting with PWDs to determine areas where they need support and connecting them to volunteers who
can help. We also find that many volunteers want to offer their time and skills but don’t know how. Through
such initiatives we have supported people like Suresh, who is visually impaired and secured admission into
IIM, Kolkata, one of India’s prestigious management colleges and went on to work at Accenture.

GiftAbled aims to break the stigma through Inclusion matters and workshops

Sensitisation through Inclusion Matters: Stepping into the shoes of PWDs for a short while
and exploring how technology is supporting them to work efficiently!

Sensitisation Workshops

• One Of a kind special clubs
 Deaf Club : A community of hearing impaired persons, sign language interpreters, and
volunteers who wish to work for the upliftment of hearing impaired
 Vision Club : A community of visually impaired persons and volunteers who wish to work
towards the upliftment of visually impaired
 The clubs meet regularly where members share their challenges, brainstorm ideas and
solutions, and connect with each other
• Health Matters for PWDs
– Educating People With Disability about various health issues
• Projects and capacity building in collaboration
– Supporting projects in rural parts of Karnataka
– Partner for Job Fairs for People with Disability

Spinal Cord Injury rehabilitation centre
The program caters to individuals who have injured their spinal cord and
are in need of rehabilitation services after surgery. This is at a centre in
Koppal, Karnataka, managed by NGO Samuha. We have partnered to help
with renovating the place and making it accessible.
Our support:
 Special beds for exercising and sleeping
 Mud roads now have pathways for beneficiaries to reach the gym and
on the way back to their dormitories
 A greenhouse for people with disabilities to integrate horticulture in
training

An Inclusive Gift Store
Supporting PWDs by tying up with NGOs that employ them to create beautiful
products, and marketing these products online through our E-store.
This initiative is also supported through Corporate Gifting partnerships, where
Corporate offices purchase our products to use as gifts in their Recognition
Awards, Annual or Festival Gifting. This serves a dual objective of sensitisation
and livelihood generation at the same time

Evaluate corporate offices for their infrastructure and website accessibility
and create a grading system, helping them know where they stand and
charting the route for future solutions.
• Audit: Conducted by an expert team consisting of PWDs and non PWDs to evaluate
accessibility across several parameters. Gaps will be identified and ideas for solutions will be
shared

• Mapping of Disability, Skill set and Job Position: Coaching every candidate to help
identify the right fit
• Facilitate Hiring of People with Disability: Working with corporates to assist them
through the process
• Facilitate Induction of People with Disability
• Retention assessment with Person with Disability and his superior
Talent Acquisition & Retention
A lot of Corporates have the intent to hire PWDs but lack the internal capability to do so.
Similarly PWDs are in need of someone to facilitate the process of job application. Hence
we undertake talent acquisition and retention.
