3. INTRODUCTION
Cooperative learning is a successful teaching
strategy in which small teams, each with students of
different levels of ability, use a varity of learning
activities to improve their understanding of a
subject. Each member of a team is responsible not only
for the learning what is taught but also for helping
teammates learn, creating an atmosphere of
achievement.
Collaborative learning is based on the idea that
learning is a naturally social act in which the
participants talk among themselves.it is through the
talk that learning occure.

COOPERATIVE LEARNING
Cooperative learning is a successful learning
strategy in which small teams, each with students of
different level of ability, use a varity of learning
activities to improve their understanding of a
subject.each member of a team is responsible not only
for learning what is taught but also for helping
teammates learn, thus creating an atmosphere of
achievement.students work through the assignment
until all group members successfully understand and
complete it.
ADVANTAGES
i. Promote students learning and academic
achievement.
ii. Increase student retention.
iii. Enhances student satisfaction with their learning
experiences.
iv. Help students develop skills in oral
communication.
v. Develops students’ social skills.
vi. Promote students self - esteem.
vii. Help to promote positive race relation.
5. COLLABORATIVE LEARNING
It is an educational approach to teaching and learning
that involves groups of learners working togeather to
solve a problem ,compleat a task ,or creat a
product.Collaborative learning is based on the idea
that learning is a naturally social act in which the
participants talk among themselves.it is through the
talk that learning occurs.
ADVANTAGES
i. Develops higher level thinking skills.
ii. Promotes student-faculty interactions and
familiarity.
iii. Increases student retention.
iv. Build self esteem in students.
v. Enhances student satisfaction with the learning
experience.
vi. Promote a positive attitude towards the subject
matter.
vii. Develop oral communication skill.
6. JIGSAW TECHNIQUE
Jigsaw technique is a strategy that emphasizes
cooperative learning by providing students an
opportunity to actively help each other build
comprehension. Use this technique is to assign
students to reading groups composed of varying
skill levels.
Jigsaw is well established method for
encouraging group sharing and learning at specific
content. Monitoring each students participation
within the groups provides teachers with
information about how much the students all
ready know about the topic.
Teachers can use the following steps;
i. Introduce the technique and the topic to be
studied.
ii. Assign each student to a “home group” of 3-5
students who reflect a range of reading abilities.
iii. Determine a set of reading selections and assign
one section to each student.
iv. Create “expert groups” that consist at students
across “a home groups” who will read the same
selection.
7. THINK - PAIR – SHARE
In cooperative learning it involves a three step
cooperative structure. During the first step
individuals think silently about a question posed by
the instructor.Individuals pair up during the second
step and exchange thoughts. In the third step, the
pairs share their responses with other pairs, other
teams, or the entire group.
In collaborative learning technique think – pair –
share have certain steps;
o The instructor poses a question, preferable one
demanding analysis, evaluation, or synthesis,
and gives students about a minute to think
through an appropriate response. This “think-time”
can be spent writing, also.
o Students then turn to a partner and shair their
response.
o During the third step, student responses can be
shared within a four – person learning team,
within a larger group, or with an entire class
during a follow- up discussion. The calibre of
discussion is enhanced by this technique, and all
8. students have an opportunity to learn by
reflection and by verbalization.
9. CONCLUSION
Collaborative learning and cooperative learning
sometimes are used interchangeably. This is
responsible,as both small group active student
participation over passive,lecture-based teaching and
each require a specific task tocompleted. Each strategy
inherently supports a discovery based approach to
learning. The two methods and the techniques assign
various group activities though collaborative learning
can have fewer roles assigned. In both
situations, student members are required to possess
group skills though cooperative learning may include
this as a instructional goal.
