3. LESSON TEMPLATE
Name of teacher : Shelin Elizabeth Varghese Subject: Mathematics
Name of school : Unit : Polygon
Standard & division : 9 Topic :Polygon
strength : Period :
Time : 45 minutes Date :
Curricular statement :
To understand the concept of polygon
Content analysis :
Term : Polygon
Fact :
* Polygon comes from Greek Poly means many and gon means angle.
* A closed pane figure having three or more sides. .
*A regular polygon is apolygon all of whose sides are the same length and
all of whose interiorangles are the same measure.
4. Concept : Polygon.
Learning outcome :
Student will be able to:
*recall related knowledge and information about polygons.
*Exemplify different situations of polygons.
*Apply the above concept in familiar situation.
*Accept the beauty of Mathematical principles.
Pre- requisite : Geometrical shapes.
Learning aids : Activity Cards.
Classroom interaction procedure Response
Teacher divide the class into two groups
One group named triangle and other square
Teacher name the game as Polygon shape properties
Rules
All the cards are dealt between the two groups. The
starting player chooses a category from his or her
topmost card and reads out its
value. (The numbers corresponding to each category
Students actively listen to the rules.
5. are not written on ,so the players will have to work
them out).
The other player then works out and reads out the
value of the same category from their top card. The
largest value wins the "trick", and the winner group
takes both the cards of the trick and places them at the
bottom of his or her pile. That players then looks at
their new topmost card, and chooses the category for
the next round. In the event of a draw, the cards are
placed in the centre and a new category is chosen
from the next card by the same group as in the
previous round. The winner of that round obtains all
of the cards in the centre as well as the top card from
each player. The winner is the group who obtains the
whole pack.
PROPERTIES OF EACH CARD
N.o. vertices
N.o. sides the same length
N.o. internal angles the same size
N.o. pairs of parallel lines
N.o. lines of symmetry
Order of rotational symmetry
Students understood the game and the trum card to
score.
6. The cards are:
1.
Equilateral triangle
Isosceles triangle
2.
Right angled triangle
Scalene triangle
Students play the game.
9. Regular hexagon
Irregular hexagon
8.
Regular heptagon
Irregular heptagon
After the game teacher conclude the properties found
by them.
Polygons are 2-dimensional shapes. They are
made of straight lines, and the shape is "closed"
(all the lines connect up).
10. If all angles are equal and all sides are equal,
then it is regular, otherwise it is irregular.
Polygon Parts
Side - one of the line
segments that make up the
polygon.
Vertex - point where two
sides meet. Two or more
of these points are called
vertices.
Diagonal - a line
connecting two vertices
that isn't a side.
Interior Angle - Angle
formed by two adjacent
sides inside the polygon.
Exterior Angle - Angle
Students understood the concept.
11. formed by two adjacent
sides outside the polygon.

Review :
1) Name a 12 sided polygon
12. 2) Draw a 12 sided polygon.
Follow up:
Draw some polygons and regular polygons.
