This document is a sermon about abiding in Christ from John 15:1-8. The key points are:
1. Jesus describes himself as the true vine and believers as branches that must remain connected to him to bear fruit.
2. To abide in Christ means obeying his commandments, confessing sins, praying, and recognizing God's works in one's life.
3. The goal of abiding is to bear much fruit and become more like Christ, bringing glory to God. The Father prunes believers to produce more and more fruit over time.

Do you look like your parents? For me, some may say I really look like my dad. He just smiles more often and I don’t. Hehe. It’s just amazing to see how a child can really resemble his or her father or mother. We have a resemblance to our earthly parents no matter who big or small it may be. But we should also consider our resemblance to our heavenly Father. We will learn a lot about this as we study 1 John chapter 3.
John 15:5 Jesus is the vine and we are the branches. He is the source of nourishment, we must remain attached to the vine, if we remain in Him, we will bear much fruit. without him we can do nothing.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

2Every branch in me that does not
bear fruit he takes away, and every
branch that does bear fruit he
prunes, that it may bear more
fruit.

the word that I have spoken to you.
4Abide in me, and I in you. As the
branch cannot bear fruit by itself,
unless it abides in the vine,

3. 5I am the vine; you are the branches.
Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it
is that bears much fruit, for apart from
me you can do nothing.
6If anyone does not abide in me he is
thrown away like a branch and withers;
and the branches are gathered, thrown
into the fire, and burned.

sin is death, but the free gift of
God is eternal life in Christ Jesus

5. Two steps: “Come to Me” and “Abide

Romans 6:22 (ESV) 22But now that you
have been set free from sin and have
become slaves of God, the fruit you
get leads to sanctification and its
end, eternal life.
COME TO ME and then ABIDE IN ME
6. To ‘abide’ means ‘remain, stay’
1 Obey His Commandments
1John 2:5 but whoever keeps his word, in
him truly the love of God is perfected. By
this we may know that we are in him:
2. Confess our sins where we have
fallen short
1 John 1:9 (ESV) 9If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.

way in which He (Jesus) walked.
