Our company
Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B/P SM /NASDAQ:
ABGB) applies innovative technology-based
solutions for sustainable development in the
energy and environment sectors, generating
electricity from renewable resources,
transforming biomass into biofuels and
producing drinking water from seawater.
Abengoa Abeinsa, the Abengoa business group
dedicated to engineering and construction,
provides integrated solutions for the energy,
water, environment, infrastructure and service
sectors.
Infrastructures for a sustainable
world
Business areas
Abengoa Abeinsa, a global benchmark among
engineering and construction companies with
more than 70 years of market experience and
expertise, structures its activities around four
verticals:
Energy & Environment: solar plants (tower,
CCP, hybrid solar-gas and PV), other
renewable plants (wind power, biomass,
WtE), conventional generation, biofuels,
desalination plants, water treatment, reuse,
transportation and distribution.
Transmission & Infrastructure: major power
transmission systems (both AC and DC),
singular building construction, rail
transportation and industrial plants.
Services: engineering, manufacturing,
logistics and sourcing, operation and
maintenance.
Asset Management: managing assets under
concession (transmission lines, power and
water treatment plants, singular buildings,
etc.).
PT: Parabolic Trough; PV: Photovoltaic; AC: Alternating Current;
DC: Direct Current; WtE: Waste to Energy
3. Activities and recognition
Activities
Abengoa Abeinsa structures its operations into
three distinct segments:
Engineering and construction: engineering,
construction and maintenance for power
generating plants, hydraulic and
environmental infrastructures, as well as
electrical, mechanical and instrumentation
infrastructure for the energy, environment,
equipment, transportation and service
sectors.
Concessions: including both electrical power
transmission and generation infrastructure in
the energy sector, and infrastructures under
concession in the water sector, singular
buildings, railway and others.
New technologies: energy storage, ocean
power, energy efficiency, electromobility and
CO2 capture and valorization.

5. What is a microgrid?
A microgrid is an independently managed local
energy system that is built upon three pillars:
electricity generation, storage and demand
control.
• Power generation in microgrids usually comes
from different distributed generating systems,
including renewable and non-renewable
sources, with power outputs that range from
hundreds of kW to tens of MW.
• Energy storage includes lithium batteries,
hydrogen, etc., and it contributes to leveling
peaks in production and demand.
• Demand is adjusted by means of control
systems, to achieve a more secure and efficient
quality supply of energy.
Microgrids can operate in island mode, completely
separate from the grid, or in grid-connected mode
via a common point (CCP, Common Coupling
Point), enabling electricity import or export as
required.
Microgrids
Advantages
Reduction in transmission losses
Efficiency
Greater integration of renewable
energy sources
Sustainability
No grid interruptions in unfavorable
conditions
Resilience
Increased control of quality and
stability
Quality
Supply security: option to function
independently from the general grid
Independence
More control and less risk, including
storage and generation and
consumption forecasting
Manageability
Provision of auxiliary grid services in
new deregulated market scenarios

Applications
Microgrids can provide specific solutions
according to customer needs:
• Communities: optimizing the use of
conventional generators and integrating
renewable resources in both residential areas
and in remote cities with a high number of
losses occurring in transmission.
• Critical zones: secure energy supply in the
event of undesired interruptions in places
that include hospitals, prisons, military bases,
etc.
• Microgrids on campus: an island that is
wholly independent from the grid can be set
up for college and university campuses, etc,
improving the efficiency and sustainability of
the energy used.
• Industrial or commercial hubs: helping to
lower fuel costs, in addition to ensuring
secure and stable energy supply to mines,
commercial centers and the manufacturing
industry.
