Abengoa has built a 50 MW solar thermal tower plant in Upington, South Africa, contributing to the country's goal of achieving 17,800 MW from renewable sources by 2030. The plant, which began operation in February 2016, can power 45,000 homes and aims to eliminate 183,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. It features advanced technology including a two-hour storage capacity and a dry cooling system, making it a significant milestone as Africa's first solar thermal tower plant.
