100 Years of Anchorage
This year, as Anchorage celebrates
its 100th birthday, the Anchorage
Museum is opening its “City
Limits” exhibition (March 6–
October 11) to explore the city’s
history. A hundred years ago,
Anchorage was a small tent city
along Ship Creek. Today it’s a
state center with more than
300,000 residents. Occupying
four galleries, the exhibition
focuses on demographics,
recreation, people and maps.
Visitors can connect to the city’s
roots with language-listening
stations and films in a small
theater built as a tent similar to
those used by workers on Alaska’s
early railroads. “City Limits” is
part of the Anchorage Centennial
celebration, which runs through
December 2015. For details, call
907-929-9200 or visit anchorage-
