2. Day 9 – Trago Mill (St Neot) to Minions
Skirting around the southern edge of Bodmin Moor, heading in the general direction of Launceston and
the Cornwall- Devon border . Started from Trago Mill, instead of St Neot, because access road to St Neot
from A38 was closed to traffic

3. Day 9 – Trago Mill (St Neot) to Minions - Overview of
route
A walk on minor roads and footpaths, starting on the A38 at Trago Mill, heading first north to St Neot and then north-east to
Lower Trenant and Draynes and Common Moor to Minions. Moorland for the last few miles. A series of gentle climbs up
from altitude 72 metres to 309 metres. Moorland scenery from Common Moor onwards
General Directions : 1st leg – 2.8 miles Head east along the A38 for half a mile and take a left on a minor road following
the St Neot river north up to St Neot 2nd leg – 3.2 miles Follow B-road east to Wenmouth Cross, Lower Trenant, Trenant,
Draynes and then cross Draynes Bridge. 3rd leg - 3 miles - Take footpath across south edge of Bulland Downs to South
Trekieve . Then pass north of Common Moor on footpath through Gimblemill, Little Barton and Great Gimble. Join back
onto the minor road near the Lower Long Stone and proceed north through moorland to Minions.

4. Set off from Trago Mills at 12.10 on a dry and but overcast day, 15oC. Starting altitude: 72 metres. Head east along main A38 road
for half a mile and turn left up minor road to St Neot at Two Rivers Foot. Follow the minor road north up valley, following the path
of the Neot River to St Neot (2.81 miles, 127 metres altitude, 1 hour 18 minutes elapsed time).

Clockwise from bottom left : Views walking north along a minor road running up through the wooded valley of the
Neot River from the A38 towards St Neot. A turning off to the right goes up to Carnglaze Caverns. The right turning
in St Neot up Liskeard Hill towards Draynes.

6. .Climb up Liskeard Hill from St Neot, past Wenmouth Cross and down into Lower Trenant, crossing a stream feeding down into the
Fowey River. Then a further climb up to Draynes and a gentle downhill to Draynes Bridge on the River Fowey. Altitude 190 metres.
Distance travelled since start: 6 miles in 3 hours 14 minutes. Slow progress today !

7. Day 9 – Trago Mill (St Neot) to Minions– Second leg to
Draynes Bridge – 3.2 miles
Clock wise from bottom left : View south from top of Liskeard Hill. The road to Trenant and
Draynes just after Wenmouth Cross. The lane running down to Lower Trenant . The lane
running down to Draynes Bridge (River Fowey on left, hidden by bank).

8. Cross Draynes bridge and take a left at T-junction on road towards Siblyback Lake. After 100 metres take footpath on right
opposite some white cottages. Cross the southern edge of Bulland Downs on various overgrown paths to South Trekieve . Then
pass north of Common Moor on footpath through Gimblemill, Little Barton and Great Gimble. Join back onto the minor road
near the Lower Long Stone and proceed north east through moorland to Minions. This leg took me 1 hour 30 minutes, gradually
climb from 190 meters to 309 metres. Got a bit lost in bogs and gorse on Bulland Downs – footpaths not obvious
