20. CHARACTERS OF GROWING MEDIUM
• Firm enough to hold the seed or plants
• Porous to facilitate drainage of air and water
• Retention of enough moisture

21. TIPS FOR GROWING VEGETABLES
ON ROOF TOP
Selection of site:
• Where we get plenty of sunlight.
• Proper drainage facilities.
Moisture protection:
• Spread over the 4 x 4 mts
polythene sheet on the floor to
avoid wetting of the floor.
22. Preparation of Media
Now its ready for sowing or planting
7- 8 days for decomposition. After decomposition the colour will turn black
Growing medium is filled 1 inch below from the top of the plastic cover.
Mix the biofertilizer and Biofungicides.
Soak for 5 to 10 minutes and it will expand upto 4 to 5 times
Pour fresh water on the cocopeat brick.
Take the sealed polythene grow bags with cocopeat brick.

35. Preparation of Garlic, Ginger and Chilli extract
Filtered before spraying
Mixture is stirred well with 2 tbsp Khadi soap solution
3 pastes are dissolved in 1lt of water
Paste of 9gms of Chilli and 9gms of Ginger
Take 18 gms of Garlic and made into paste
36. Preparation of cowdung extract
Spraying the filterate
Add 500 ml of water to the filterate and again
filter it with the same cloth
Filter the extract with gunny cloth
Mix it with 1 lt of water
100 gms of Cowdung
37. Harvesting
• Vegetable should be harvested at
the peak of maturity.
• Leafy vegetable should be picked up
when tender.
• Root vegetables should be pulled out
when mature.
