The forebrain, also called the cerebrum, is responsible for intelligence, memory, and personality. The midbrain coordinates brain messages between the spinal cord. The hindbrain consists of the cerebellum, which controls balance and movement, and the medulla, which controls automatic bodily functions like breathing and swallowing.
