So Abram left, as the Lord had told him; and Lot
went with him. Abram was seventy-five years
old when he set out from Haran. He took his
wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions
they had accumulated and the people they had
acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land
of Canaan, and they arrived there.

Genesis 12:6-7
Abram traveled through the land as far as the
site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At
that time the Canaanites were in the land. The
Lord appeared to Abram and said, ‘To your

there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

“A good name is more desirable
than great riches; to be
esteemed is better than silver or
gold” (Proverbs 22:1)
A name is more than a LABEL.
A name carries with it a HISTORY.
Names are given for a VARIETY of reasons.
Is there significance to the name
NETWORK Christian Church?
From Luke 5…not called to DIFFERENT places, but to
live DIFFERENTLY in the places we already are.
“Changes in name were to designate a new STATUS”
This promise is conditioned on OBEDIENCE.
This new chapter in Abram’s life
requires a willingness to LEAVE
behind the old.
If you remain tied to the PAST it is difficult to write a
different FUTURE.
God isn’t calling him to leave just to leave, but for
the higher purpose of BLESSING the people of earth.
A willingness to leave is just talk until you GO.
God gives him a new NAME not simply as a label,
but to reflect his new status.

My Next Step Today is to:
( ) Do the home life help (in bulletin)
( ) Evaluate if I am living in the way I want to be
remembered.
( ) Identify if I am tied to something from my past that is
keeping me from God’s promises
( ) Examine where I have been dragging my feet rather
than obeying God.
( ) Reflect on where God is calling me to grow, to “write a
new chapter” in the New Year
