This document describes a student project to create an online shopping website. The goals of the project are to allow users to create accounts, log in, browse products and purchase items. The admin can manage the product catalog. It discusses how online shopping saves time compared to traditional shopping. Hardware and software requirements include Windows, Java, MySQL, and Tomcat. Entity relationship and data flow diagrams are included. Snapshots show functionality like registration, login, shopping cart, and admin dashboard. The conclusion states the project helped students gain practical experience with web design, databases, and the software development process.

2. ONLINE SHOPPING WEBSITE:
The goal of this project is to create an online shopping website in which users
can create an account, log-in, input details and purchase items from the comfort of
their home. Here, the customer can browse through the products catalog, add
items to cart and buy products. The admin can add, delete, modify the product list
according to the availability of the products.
Now-a-days people have busy lifestyle. They feel that it’s time-consuming to
go for crowded shopping areas. So, online shopping is a boon as it saves lot of time.
Online shopping is a process whereby customers directly buy goods from a seller.
One of the most enticing factors about online shopping is that it is available 24*7.
Consumers can get full information about a particular product from the website as
well as from the feedbacks or reviews provided by the existing users. Hence, they
get unbiased opinions from other consumers.

3. Introduction:
Online shopping is becoming increasingly popular for variety of reasons. There are
certainly outside factors such as increasing gas prices, difficulty in getting to traditional stores and
hassles often associated with shopping malls and other traditional stores to contribute to the
increased interest in online shopping. Online shopping sites contain wide variety of goods both
high quality and mild quality keeping in mind the level of people.
 There are no national and international barriers.
 In online shopping consumer will be in demanding position and supplier will be in a
commanding position.
 There are enormous employment opportunities in online shopping.
 Online shopping is time-saving because one can purchase products after a few clicks on their
laptops, desktops, tablets.
 Online shopping saves energy because it requires less efforts than going to traditional stores.
 Online shopping saves money because it offers better deals and products at reasonable prices
without spending extra for transportation, fuel.
 Online shopping is convenient as one can shop 24X7 according to their convenience.
 Comparison of prices is easy with online shopping.

4. Purpose & scope of the project:
The purpose of this project is to automate and facilitate the whole
process of shopping. This web application fixes the limitation and problems of
paper-based processes. The main goal is to increase the quantity of sales, by using
new technologies of web programming to design more attractive and dynamic
web pages and to search a lot of customers by working on customer preferences.
With this system we can advertise to a lot of consumers by providing them with
better virtual experiences. The scope of this work is to design, develop and test
the application by using MySQL database and Eclipse IDE. In addition to it, we
used Tomcat server to successfully run the application over the internet.

12. Future of Online Shopping Project:
To put it bluntly, the scope of online shopping in the near future looks to be ever-
increasing and growing, because the trend has really caught on here. Hence, the future
scopes of online shopping project are:
 The current system can be extended to allow the users to create accounts and save
products in to wish list.
 The users could subscribe for price alerts which would enable them to receive messages
when price for products fall below a particular level.
 The current system is confined only to the shopping cart process. It can be extended to
have an easy to use check out process.
 Users can have multiple shipping and billing information saved. During checkout they can
use the drag and drop feature to select shipping and billing information.

13. Conclusion:
The contribution of the project is to fix the limitation and problems of paper-based
processes. Shopping is made easier and convenient for the customers. The web application saves
time, efforts. Provides convenient prices and discounts. Also gives detailed information about
products by comparing various models and brands. Hence, it turns shopping into a “few clicks”
process from the comfort of our homes.
This project helped us in gaining valuable information and practical knowledge on
several topics like designing web pages using HTML & CSS and management of database
using MySQL. Also, the project helped us to understand about the different phases of a
project and software development life cycle. We learned how to test different features of
a project. Hence, this project has given us great satisfaction.
