We already have a “more than full-time” GP but she’s run off her feet and the community wants her to have
more time to go surfing and horse riding. Maybe you are an adventurer/doctor who would prefer to balance
your work and recreation by trekking in the wilds of the National Park or fishing in our pristine bream-filled
lake system or golfing to the sound of the waves breaking a short distance away.
And your adventure here is just beginning. There are the professional challenges our Medical Centre provides.
You can expect the unexpected in the surgery as you deal with everything from snakebite to road trauma to
the usual ailments. You will have the support of a MICA paramedic, an ambulance service which is second to
none, two trained nurses and a community which will stand behind you.
The population of Mallacoota swells from about 1000 to around 5000 over the period from Christmas to
Easter, as other adventurers/ fishers and happy holiday families invade our little town. Plenty of challenges
for you there!
Whenyoufeel the needfora change of pace or maybe some retail therapy,Canberraisonly4 hrs drive away.Andif
you’dlike some oystersstraightoutof the water,Merimbulaisjusta 100km stroll upthe road. While you’re there,yes,
youcan go whale watching,but we have ourown whales!Theylove the Mallacootabay.
We alsohave a vibrant arts community witha new contemporaryartgallery andcommunityradiostation,lotsof music,
a writinggroupand three bookclubs.That’snot to mention the gemclub, the photographyclub, the Footmobiles
walkinggroup, oh,the activitiesgoonandon….
Importantly,forthe kids, we have a P-12 College whichoftenratesinthe top10 rural schoolsinVictoria.Withonly140-
150 studentsintotal,the one onone interactionwiththe teachersgivesalevelof individualattentionthatmostschools
can’t match. AndwhenyourPE classincludessurfing,itcan’tgetmuchbetterthan that!
