Where has this year gone? I can’t believe
we are now into October with ‘you not
what’ just a couple of months away!
We’ve got Halloween this month, Bonfire
Night next month and then it’s the big one – Christmas – the month
after – around 10-12 weeks from now...
I see some local businesses are already selling their festive goods
and I do know many of our community do like to purchase early to
avoid the dreaded last-minute Christmas rush.
That final week before Christmas Day is my most hated of weeks
in the calendar. I am useless at Christmas shopping and throughout
my life I have done my best to try to come up with a plan to carry
out this ‘chore’ – but failure has always stared me in the face!
My family do love Halloween with our five grandchildren going
to our local neighbours to do their ‘Trick or Treating’ – their happy
and excited faces remind me of my own children doing exactly the
same thing over 30 years ago. Then we have a Halloween Party after
our grandkids have returned with their buckets full of sweets with
my 91 year old mum and my wife’s mum joining in the fun. We
always have a wonderful night...
So, it’s 3 months of ‘fun’ from now on – that’s what I keep telling
myself.
Like I said, to see the faces of my grandchildren enjoying
themselves brings so many happy memories of my two young
children – now I’m not thinking where has this year gone – but where
does one’s life go... so make the best of your time here everyone...
I hope you enjoy reading this issue of The Voice colour magazine

S
ome of the plot holders on the Victoria Allotments Association in
Uttoxeter recently celebrated their success in being awarded funds from
The Big Lottery Fund, Awards for All by holding a barbeque on site. The
27 plots are on a self-managed site and the committee wanted to add to site
security and improve amenities. The funds were used to purchase a secure
shed, replacement entrance gate, lawn mower and strimmer for the plot
holders to use.
As a small and friendly site the plot holders are keen to work with the
community and currently have James Lumley from the 6th form at Thomas
Alleyne’s High School working on the preparation of a new plot as part of
his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. They’re also looking at getting involved
with a new initiative in Uttoxeter starting next year to swap seeds with other
allotment sites and gardeners.

The Paul Taylor
Charity Fund
Masquerade Ball
28th October 2017
F
ollowing the success of the Summer
Ball in 2016, the PTCF are excited
about their up-coming Masquerade
Ball, held at Keele Hall on Saturday 28th
October 2017. The fund raising committee
was set up two years ago to raise money
for pioneering research into lung cancer,
following the sad loss of husband, father
and friend Paul Taylor. The research, if
successful, could lead to the invention of a
simple breath test, which would allow a far
earlier diagnosis of lung cancer –
automatically improving prognosis. The test would be much less invasive than existing
methods and results would be available in minutes; not days or weeks as is currently the case.
Son of Paul, and chairman of the PTCF Mark Taylor said “This is such a good cause, Dad
took part in Dr Joe’s research whilst he was undergoing his treatment and we know how
important this would have been to him”.
The total raised to date is well over £10,000 and the group is aiming to top that this year.
The auction at the Summer Ball was one of the highlights. Auctioneer extraordinaire, Phil
Cope said “We’ve already had some fantastic auction lots donated but are still looking for
one or two more lots”.
For more information contact the PTCF via rosie@ptcf.org.uk
Tickets are available from the website www.ptcf.org.uk or pop in to Donald Cope & Co,
Cheadle Car Park to buy tickets or drop off donations.

8. The Great Cheadle Soapbox Derby
By Rick Hermolle
T
he Cheadle Soapbox Derby was put forward as
a possible fundraising idea at one of our first
meetings as the Bring Back Cheadle Carnival
Committee, amongst many other potential projects.
Little did we know what we were unleashing on
Cheadle less than a year later.
After a year of fundraising, including the highly
successful Guild Hall nights, came our biggest event
to date, the inaugural Cheadle Soapbox Race. 24
teams, led by intrepid Chairman Tim Cliffe (dressed
as Carnival Queen, of course), raced their home-built
soapbox cars in fancy dress, including Wacky Races
own Anthill Mob, Star Wars and a Goldfish Bowl,
through Brookhouses, in Cheadle, in front of
somewhere between 2000 and 3000 spectators. A
fine day out, beyond even our expectations. It
couldn’t have happened without the help and
support of the people of Cheadle, of course, so a
short list from the committee of all the other groups
and individuals without whom it would never have
happened:
“Firstly we'd like to thank the people of Cheadle
and surrounding areas for their attendance,
generous donations and excellent community spirit.
All the competing teams including the builders and
racers who made the day what it was through sheer
genius and bravery. But as we mentioned before, any
event requires a whole lot of behind the scenes
support; therefore we'd like to thank Dave Shaw,
Dave Oakes, Cheadle & District Round table,
Vauxhall, NFU insurance, Woods catering, Wheels &
Tyres, Chris Ibbs, Ashmore's, Gary Bentley, Steve Doig
for all the railings and barriers, Gary Johnson for the
steel and ramps, Shaun Spooner Autos,The Sentinel,
Cheadle & Team Times, Tungate & surrounding
businesses for parking, The Huntsman, Brice Bozier
& The 2nd Hornet Scouts group from Shropshire,
CATs, Gary Shenton for his commentary, St Johns
Ambulance Cheadle unit and the residents of Majors
Barn estate, Glebe court and surrounding areas for
their patience with regard to traffic and road closures
and lastly every person who volunteered their time
to help us achieve something really great.”
All in all, a great day out was had by all. So great,
in fact, that we will be doing it all again next year,
dates to be announced, but before the carnival itself.
So it might already be time to start thinking about
next year’s entry. There has been a lot of interest in
the event and we hope to have many more teams
next year. Information and application forms are
available from Tim at Airfawn Garage in
Brookhouses, The Huntsman or Wrights in Cheadle
High Street.

The Alton 5 Mile Challenge Run and Fun Run
is fast approaching in the village of Alton.
It is 30 years since the first run was staged and
in keeping with tradition, the run is starting and
finishing at The Royal Oak pub. The 5 Mile
Challenge run follows a slightly different course to
previous years, but heads down Horse Road, Red
Road and then up into the tracks around
Dimmingsdale and back via The Ramblers Retreat
to The Royal Oak. Darren Nash, landlord of The
Royal Oak, will be the official starter and then he
will return to his job of preparing the refreshments
for the runners on their return. Each entrant will
receive a medal and a burger, well deserved after
the challenge of the 5 mile run. Entries £6 on the
day or by email funrunalton@gmail.com
For those not yet ready for the challenge, there
is a very popular 2mile fun run from The Royal
Oak to The Rambler’s Retreat and back. This is
open to all ages and all abilities, so do not be afraid
to come along and enter on the day, £4 entry fee,
and join in the fun, soaking up the community
atmosphere. Fun runners will also get a medal and
a burger on completion. There will be spot prizes
as well and a special prize for fancy dress, in the
fun run.
Local businesses have been very generous in
supporting this event with prizes and contributions
from The Old Stables, Londis, Alton Post Office,
Denstone Farm Shop, Prep Beauty, Vital
Communications, The Bulls Head, The White
Hart, The Alton Bridge Hotel, The Blacksmiths,
JCB, Alton Towers and Draycott Estate Agents.
A small group of locals regularly meet up for a
run and jog in Alton on a Monday evening. If you
are interested in coming along as part of your
training for the 5 Mile Challenge or the Fun Run,
you would be very welcome. For further details
you can contact Angela Heath on 07980 333176.

Opulence
celebrating
10 years
Esther Powell is over the moon that Opulence is now celebrating its 10th
year in business.
"My dream of owning my own salon came true at the age of 22, when I
opened Opulence in Uttoxeter after I’d spent 4 years working in different
salons and spas getting as much experience as I could.
"As the years have gone by, it’s made me love the beauty industry more,
and having the chance to do it for myself has been the hardest, but best
experience!
"Opulence wouldn’t be possible without the fantastic team that I’ve got,
and had, supporting me. The last couple of years I’ve had some time behind
the scenes to have a family, and I couldn’t be prouder of the hard work the
girls have put into Opulence, treating it as their own. And as for our wonderful
clients, the loyalty that has been shown over the last 10 years is amazing.
"We strive to offer our clients the best in treatments and in products. This
month has seen the introduction of Environ skincare and facial treatments to
Opulence.
"As a celebration to mark our 10 year anniversary, we are offering cake
and bubbly to anyone that pops in during the week of the 9th-14th October,
and for every client that spends over £20 we have a tree of gifts to pick a prize
from.
Thank you for your support, and here is to the next 10 years! Esther and

Thomas Alleyne’s High School, Dove Bank, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire ST14 8DU
The opportunity to educate other people’s children
is our privilege and brings with it a huge
responsibility to make sure that we provide your
sons and daughters with the opportunities they
desire to achieve happiness and success in their
future lives.
In GCSEs, this Summer Thomas Alleyne’s students made
excellent progress across our broad and well-rounded curriculum.
Many students gained amazing results with 11 students attaining
at least 8 A*/A grade. 34 students gaining at least 5 GCSEs at A/A*
and 99 students achieving at least one grade at A/A*.
Hannah Brown succeeded in being one of the top 2500 students
in England who were awarded 3 of the new grade 9s in addition to
7 A*s. She is continuing her studies at Thomas Alleyne’s High
School studying A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology.
A high proportion of students in the sixth form achieved
exceptional A-level results, with 88% of students attaining 3 A-
levels at grades A*/C and over a quarter of all students surpassing
this attaining 3 grades at A*/B. Perhaps most importantly the pass
rate was 98% which has once again enabled students to continue
to secure top university places and Higher Apprenticeships in
companies such as Total IT Solutions, Ernst & Young, Rolls Royce
and AstraZeneca (a global pharmaceutical company.)
Notable academic achievements include Alfie Holmes who
secured A*A*A*A* and has taken a place to study Mathematics at
Oxford University, Harry Cooper who having achieved A*A*AA will
read Computer Science at Imperial College London. Charlotte
Bagnall will undertake a Veterinary Medicine course at Nottingham
University and Ben Woodhead who achieved A* A* A and has
secured a place at Durham University to study Geography. Megan
Gardiner joins the Physiotherapy course at Birmingham University
and Alex Canning, who achieved 3 A levels all at grade A, will be
reading Medicine at Kings College London.
Engineering was once again a successful and popular route
chosen by our Sixth Form students with Callum Jones choosing to
study Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, Francesca Watts secured
a place to study Engineering and the Physical Sciences, Sam
Brookes will be continuing his education studying Automotive
Engineering and Peter Walker will soon embark on an Aerospace
Engineering course at Nottingham University.
“This school is great, there is so much
equipment and different facilities to use.
Teachers really help you to understand and
make progress” (Torin - Y10)

At Thomas Alleyne’s High School vocational subjects have
continued to secure superb results which will place students in the
top 1% nationally for their achievements. Such outstanding results
enabled Chelsea Hudson to realise her ambition to become an
Adult Nurse by securing an unconditional place at Staffordshire
University and Katy Randall was able take up a place at
Nottingham University to study Midwifery. Both students achieved
D* D* D* on the triple Health and Social Care course.
As we welcome our new Head Boy, Ryan Wiggins, and Head
Girl, Iona Baron, to their important roles in our school community
we are thrilled that our previous Head Boy Sam Haywood was
successful in competing against 21,000 candidates to secure one
of just 340 apprenticeships at Ernst & Young. Georgie Cann Head
Girl for 2016 - 2017 succeeded in securing her dream place at
Liverpool University to study History.
Academic success is important in our school, however, along
with it we are passionate in providing opportunities to ensure
students have the chance to develop skills in teamwork,
independence, resilience and creativity. This Summer over 70
community minded Year 11 students took part in the National
Citizenship project, spending time in a local university, raising
significant amounts for charity and completing a range of outdoor
activities.
In addition to this, over 100 students took the opportunity to
complete their Duke of Edinburgh expeditions last year. 12 of these
students have now completed their Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke
of Edinburgh expeditions.
In May, the under 16 boys football team reached the Sentinel
Shield final at Port Vale football ground. The girls’ badminton team
were successful in reaching the national finals held at Milton
Keynes National Badminton Centre. After competing against
members of the national squad, they were placed seventh
nationally. A team of 32 swimmers from Thomas Alleyne's were
victorious in the Moorlands swimming gala. This performance was
matched by the athletics team who were overall winners of the
Staffordshire athletics tournament.
The Drama team presented a challenging and innovative
interpretation of Alice in Wonderland and the music students
brought the year to a close with their wonderful and varied
celebration of music. Preparations are underway for our Christmas
production of Woman in Black. With over 50 students being
involved in the production we cannot help but be excited!
Experiences like this give students the opportunity to
understand the world around them a little better and also helps
them foster confidence, tolerance, and perseverance.
We welcome you to come and see for yourself. If you
would like to look around our school please book a visit
or attend one of our two open evenings on the 4th or
11th October from 6.00pm onwards.
Opportunity,
Progress and
Individuality
“The teachers genuinely
care about your education
and do many things to help
you. Not only do teachers
care about academic studies
but this school is passionate
about a creative curriculum”

BEST KEPT VILLAGE
COMPETITION 2017
Complementary
Children’s
Competitions
T
he results of this year’s
Children’s BKV Poster
and Poetry
competitions were announced
on Monday 11 September at
Acton Trussell Community
Centre.
There was a large audience
of young people, parents and
relatives, residents from
villages, competition sponsors,
members of the BKV Working
Group and County and
District Councillors. They
heard John Perry, MBE,
Chairman of the Best Kept
Village Competition Working
Group, which organises both
the main BKV and
complementary competitions
on behalf of the Community
Council, declare the results.
John Perry said: “We had
another excellent response to
all the complementary
competitions this year,
particularly the Children’s
Poster Competition, which has
now been running since 1974.
The BKV judges saw hundreds
of children’s posters when
they judged the many villages
which entered the BKV
competition. Many villages
sited wonderful displays of
posters to draw the attention
of both residents and visitors
that their village was taking
part in BKV. Some villages
had displays of well over 100
posters at strategic points,
other had several smaller
displays at a number of
locations, whilst others used
single well-sited posters on
noticeboards, in phone boxes,
in shop and pub windows and
there were a number of lovely
displays in well maintained
bus shelters.”
From all the many posters,
the BKV Working Group had
a difficult job to pick the
winners. After very detailed
consideration it was decided
that:
Winners in the 5-7 year age
group were:
1st Prize - Ruby Goodwin,
Kingsley Holt
2nd Prize - Karam Basi,
Brewood
3rd Prize - Lottie Graney,
Abbots Bromley
Highly Commended - Lilli-
May Robinson, Kinver.
Winners in the 8-11 year age
group winners were:
1st Prize – Ellie Zafiri,
Longdon/Longdon Green
2nd Prize –Sam Payne,
Haughton
3rd Prize - Amy Farmer,
Gnosall
Highly Commended - Jacob
Fox-Bailey, Longdon/Longdon
Green
Highly Commended – Tilly
Greatorex, Oulton
The Community Council is
once again grateful to Ken
Lees of KGL (Estates) Ltd for
sponsoring the competition.

Painsley Catholic College is, once again, Staffordshire’s
highest attaining school, celebrating a set of truly
outstanding GCSE results with 90% of the Year 11 students
at the non-selective academy achieving the new standard
pass (grade 4) in English and 88% of the candidates
achieving grade 4 in maths. Furthermore, the College is
delighted with an amazing 35 students (out of 194)
achieving the new top grade 9 in English and maths. This
is particularly pleasing as grade 9 is not the same as A*; it
is a new grade, designed to recognise the very highest
performing students. All remaining subjects have achieved
to an excellent standard with average attainment
increasing from last year’s record results. This is despite
the GCSE examinations becoming more demanding.
The results place Painsley as one of the highest achieving
schools in the whole of the country. Mr Stephen Bell,
Principal at the College, said, “I am delighted to report
these wonderful results. Like all Principals, I was anxious
about the changes that have been made by the
government with the new, more demanding GCSEs
placing additional expectations on individuals. However,
the students and staff have shown their determination to
achieve the highest possible grades. I am very proud of
the responsible attitude that the students adopt towards
their studies and am full of praise for the staff who
motivate them to achieve their potential. The results secure
the College’s reputation as a centre of excellence where
children are happy and successful in a caring, studious
and disciplined environment. To achieve these results in
evermore rigorous GCSE examinations is testimony to the
efforts of the students, staff, parents and directors.”
Parents interested in sending their child to Painsley have
an increased chance of securing a place. To find out more

celebrating their new Creative
Director Daniel Billlington
getting through to the final of Wella’s
TrendVision Awards, by offering £10
off any service with Daniel.
The Wella Professionals
TrendVision Award is an iconic
industry competition and a
spectacular platform for true
creativity, where up and coming
stylists and the most masterful colour
work in the industry is celebrated.
Daniel had to submit an image
encompassing his personal vision of
current hair trends. He was then
invited to compete against other
hairdressers within his region at the
UK Regional Heats, where Daniel
was required to recreate his look on a
live model. Daniel won his regional
heat in the Colour Vision category
and secured a place in the UK & Ireland Grand Final in London. With his
model’s look, Daniel wanted to showcase creativity in styling and colour to
shape hair through the use of colour, pushing boundaries and creating a look
that would be at home on the catwalks of London, Paris, Milan or New York.
Francesco Group Uttoxeter’s Salon Director Paula Parkes, commented,
“The Wella TrendVision Award is a very tough competition and it is an
incredible achievement to get through to the finals. He has exceeded all
expectations and we are so proud of him, he has done incredibly well”.
Experience Daniel’s unique talent for yourself, with £10 off any service in
October. Contact FG Uttoxeter on 01889 568708 to make an appointment.

PmRaining celebrations at The Cheadle Academy’s
Prom Night!
Undeterred by the rain, students arrived in style, in
a convoy of classic cars, heavy goods and farm
vehicles, and a camper van, at the stunning
location afforded by Heath House in Tean, for The
Cheadle Academy Prom Night.
Looking totally fantastic and scrubbing up
more than just a little well, students posed for
photographs before taking to the beautiful
marquee and enjoying a wonderful meal. In time
honoured tradition, embarrassing yet touching
speeches followed and then it was time to take to
the dance floor!
Everyone at The Cheadle Academy is extremely
proud of these students. Principal, Mr Neil
Jamieson said, ‘I would like to wish our Year 11s
every success in August, for their results, and good
luck with their future endeavours’.
After dancing their hearts out, Y11 students
told us that this had been a very special evening
and one they would remember for a long time.

Hungry Horse Master Potter
The Marchington Singers
By Caroline Knapton
I
t’s back to work for the
Marchington Singers after a well-
deserved summer break following a
highly successful first half of the year.
February saw our first performance
to a packed audience in Marston
Montgomery. The Singers performed a
cheerful selection of popular classics,
much to the delight and appreciation
of the audience.
It was then full steam ahead,
learning some challenging new
material for the Marchington Village
Festival and our Summer Concert. Our rendition of the pop hit ‘Africa’ was
enjoyed so much by our concert audience we had to sing it twice! Our Summer
Concert in Abbots Bromley was entitled ‘Let’s Face the Music and Dance’ and
included a wide range of music from across the decades. We were joined by
two brilliant young professional ballroom dancing stars, Elliott Whittaker and
Kseniya Gammova, whose performances really wowed the large audience.
Finally, we rounded off the first half of the year with our Summer Social,
which was great fun despite the dreadful British weather!
We have now begun work on our Christmas Candlelight Concert, on 9th
December at St Mary’s Church, Uttoxeter. Last Year’s performance of ‘A
Christmas Carol’ was a complete sell-out, so save the date! We will be
performing some familiar and new music that will appeal to all ages, as well
as a Christmas work called ‘The Memory of Stars’ written by Robat Arwyn.
We will also be singing for a local wedding in December, as well as in
Uttoxeter supermarkets to raise money for Halfrida House, a local charity
which supports victims of domestic violence. Further information about these
events will be published in due course on our new-look website
www.marchingtonsingers.org.
Finally, if you fancy coming along and joining us, we rehearse in the Village
Hall in Marchington on Wednesday evenings, and we would love to hear from
you! We are a mixed choir, currently with 50 members. We have a large and
varied repertoire ranging from light favourites to four-part choral works to
songs from the world of entertainment. We perform regular concerts as well
as guest performances at weddings, festivals, fundraising events and many
others. To book us or for more information, please contact Wendy Scott on
01889 563570.
36. W
ell folks, with the weather being double
dodgy during most of August, I got to
watching a bit more tele, and whilst
watching Breakfast TV on the BBC, there was an
item on two girls who had met via the internet and
become friends.
That's nice I thought, until after Louise Minchin
had chatted to them, she asked them what they had
learnt about each other - stony silence - a nervous
giggle then the charge of the like brigade - "I was
like, then she was like, then we both were like?"etc.
I really find it embarrassing now listening to
interviews with young people, particularly girls, who
are unable to speak the Kings English correctly, even
when they've been to University. Many Essex girls
have a kind of drawl, for example "I want to be a
singar or a dancar", unfortunately it seems to be
catching!
That aside there was also some very entertaining
programmes on, and following on the heels of the
British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand, we had
the Women's Rugby World Cup from Ireland tucked
away on ITV 4 (other channels are available!).
Having not watched a lot of ladies sport in the past,
I was a bit unsure how much I would enjoy seeing
the players taking the hard knocks of rugby, but I
must admit I was really impressed.
The ladies are certainly more adept at
scrummaging which is such a mess with the men at
top level these days (new laws have been brought in
to speed it up, more of that later), but back to the
ladies who had few problems in that department,
quickly moving the ball and showing impressive
silky skills in the backs. An entertaining Final
between England and the part timers from New
Zealand, who do their own form of the Haka, saw
England more than hold their own in the first half,
before the Black Fearns cut loose following the
break to show that they are every bit as well drilled
as their male counterparts the All Blacks, proving to
be the class act in the Tournament.
When the New Season opened for the boys, I
looked forward to the new laws designed (allegedly)
to speed up the set-scrums, I watched a match
between Cardiff Blues and Edinburgh, and guess
what? They seem to have made it worse, particularly
when the pedantic Irishman George Clancy is the
man with the whistle. Now I don't profess to know
what goes on in the front row. I have a rough idea
(like referees) of what should go on, but it has
become a lottery as to whom the ref will penalise
and it is still wasting too much playing time,
especially when the ref has no sympathy for the
players.
In the good old head to head confrontation the
ball had to be fed straight into the tunnel, not to the
second row, the Hooker, as the name implies,
actually hooked the ball with his foot and his
opponent had the opportunity to get what was
known as a strike against the head and referees
didn't find it necessary to penalise every scrum,
usually the wrong way and stopping any flow to the
game. If officials can't trust the lads to get on with
it the clock should be stopped at every set scrum and
restarted when the ball emerges from the melee that
scrums have become. The trouble would be that the
match would take at least two hours!
At time of writing Uttoxeter Rugby Football
Club have just played their first League game of the
Season at Burntwood, where they went down by 21
points to 20 which gained them a deserved losing
bonus point. The town are often slow starters at the
beginning of the Season, so hopefully they will
quickly get on a winning roll. They ended at the
gallop last season to claim fourth position in
Midlands 3 West North which was their best ever
finish and they are more than capable of bettering it
this term.
The Churnet Valley Male Voice Choir are back
on full weekly practises at the Bishop Rawle School
in Cheadle. As I say in every edition of The Voice,
we need some new blood, so if any (male) readers of
any age fancy joining the original version of a Boy
Band, we are at the School from 7.30 every Tuesday,
the car park is at the bottom of the lane behind the
school. Just turn up and listen, or join in if you've a
mind to, you will be made really welcome.
On Tuesday the 3rd of October our former
Musical Director Margaret who is over from
Australia on Walkabout is coming to watch us
practice, so we will need to be at our best for Janet
our current baton waver during what will be more
of a mini concert as we show off our skills
accompanied by John on the old Joanna and a
couple of musical interludes from Clive, Stan and
Paul, I t would be a good night for prospective
choiristers to come along and listen.
The Denstone Players performed their Variety
Show in Denstone Village Hall. It was a full
programme of singing, dancing, sketches, and a
short comedy of errors in which I was type cast as a
Eunoch named Vasectimo. It was great fun
rehearsing, and we even managed to get my wife
Sandra on stage.
I will cover the show more fully in the next
issue but meanwhile you can follow us on
twitter:@denstoneplayers or on line
www.denstoneplayers.com or
www.facebook.com/denstoneplayers.
Take care everyone, TTFN Les...

Povey’s People
By Radio Stoke’s Owd Grandad Piggott
‘Take him fishing with you!’ I looked at my
mother hollowly. Owd Grandad Piggott next door
had had the doctor to him and the doctor had
come round our house.
‘He’s depressed’ he said. ‘He thinks everybody
hates him... he never goes anywhere and he’s
always skint…’
‘Everybody does hate him!’ I confirmed, ‘ and
the reason he’s skint is his pension goes down the
gents in Tummy Dawkins’s pub... he drinks more
ale than a drayhorse… he’s ignorant, cantankerous,
dirty mouthed and he stinks!’ Its no wonder
everybody hates him!’
‘Why don’t you take him fishing with you?’
persisted my mother. ‘It would give his missus a
wonderful break to be rid of him for a day…’
Owd Grandad Piggott had made noises about
me taking him fishing with me, but one reason that
I went fishing was for the peace and quiet and to
get away from the likes of him. Perhaps if I took
him with me one day and it rained, or if he didn’t
catch anything, he probably wouldn’t want to go
again. The ideal scenario would be if he fell in. As
long as I didn’t push him in… oh the very thought!.
‘Dust want come fishin’ with me termorrer?’ I
asked him that night in the pub. He gave me a sour
look.
‘Dunner put theesen ite fer may,’ he grunted.‘Ar
dunner need they fer entertain me if theyt busy’.
‘I’m offering you a day out fishing if you want
to go you miserable old sod!’, I flared. ‘Do you
want to go or don’t you?’
‘Ar owrate’, he muttered.
‘Be ready at nine oclock in the morning or I’ll
go without you!’
‘Pheu!’ was his rejoinder
‘How nice to be appreciated’, I thought.
The next morning, he was waiting for me at the
alloted time and we set off for the canal at Sandon,
my usual venue and I stopped off at Shortall’s in
Stone to get some maggots.
‘Go and get half a crowns worth’, I instructed
him passing him the tin and a half crown piece. He
got out, spat on the pavement and shuffled into the
shop. When he came back, he threw the tin full of
maggots onto the back seat and we set off for
Sandon.
When we got there, I unloaded the tackle from
the boot, then got the maggot tin from the back
seat. I noticed that the tin felt light. The reason was,
he hadn’t put the lid on right. Out of the pint that
he had purchased, there were three maggots left in
the tin.
‘You stupid old tup… You haven’t put the lid
on right and they’ve all got out’, I flared.
‘Ar couldner say rate... ar anner got me glasses
on’, he yelled.
‘They’st got some bread assner?’ So we fished
with bread and I assumed that the maggots had
found their way through the upholstery to the
outside world. That was not the case. The life cycle
of the maggot is that within a week, having found
a safe dark place, they will turn to casters, and a
fortnight or so later, they will hatch into flies. A full
pint of maggots had found their way into the
subframe.
At that time, my current girlfriend was Fat
Carol from Goms Mill and this particular Sunday,
I had spent the afternoon at her house and had
agreed to take her mother and ‘Stiff Else’ her
mother’s mate to bingo that evening. It had been a
roasting hot day, the car had stood outside Carol’s
house for about five hours - and the pint of casters
had hatched into bluebottles. Unknown to
anybody, they were stuck to the inside of the car
waiting for the feel of fresh air when someone
opened the door. Fat Carol was a hefty girl but her
mother Ivy was built like a Sherman tank. She
could have kickstarted a Boeing 747.
Ivy came tripping out of the house along with
Stiff Elsie Stanier and opened the car door. In the
space of one and a half seconds, several things
happened at once. There was a dull but loud buzz
and both ladies suddenly took on the appearance
of two nuns. They became completely encased in a
solid cloak of bluebottles. Stiff Else wasn’t so stiff
anymore. She emitted a terrified scream, lifted her
skirts and fled off down the road at a speed which
would have rivalled Paula Radcliffe. Big Ivy gave
a bellow like a Galloway bull and swiped wildly at
her coating of the repulsive insects. People came
out into the street to witness the amazing spectacle
which resembled something out of a horror film.
Big Ivy continued swiping for twenty minutes
or more causing untold death and destruction, then
she turned her attentions on me.
‘Start bloody runnin’ she snarled. Only the
fitness of youth saved me from serious injury as I
hared to the car, slammed the back door, jumped
into driving seat the and tore off down the road
like Stirling Moss.
The next week, I was given a choice between
Fat Carol or fishing and fishing won hands down.
When Owd Grandad Piggott learned of my
escapade, he gave a harsh shout of laughter.
‘They’t thank me one day’, he cackled, ‘fer
savin’ thee f’m a fate woss than death!’
Each month Radio Stoke’s Owd Grandad Piggott (Alan Povey) will write a unique insight into our
local life and its many characters.
His infectious, humorous slant on people provides a different and unusual mix which hopefully will
bring a warm smile to the faces of our readers.

Ginny’s Community Corner

H
ave you ever sat on your couch and been
frozen with fear, not because you are
watching a horror film on TV, but because
your partner is ranting and raving around the
living room, shouting, screaming and threating to
hit you? Or have you got yourself ready for the day
and your partner tells you that you look awful and
go and change? Or have you lived with someone
that you walk on egg shells around, trying to keep
the peace; because either the physical punishment
or mental abuse that will come your way is so hard
to bear you would rather keep the peace than say
what you want or need?
There is a taboo about domestic abuse and
violence, because is it normally silently accepted by
the women and men who it is happening too. The
shame that traps them in the situation is too great
to bear and so they don’t speak about it. Or if they
do find the courage to speak about it, then they are
told things like, “you made your bed, now lie in
it”. The shame and trite phases like that have kept
many people in danger when they could have
broken free.
I have a very close friend who lived with a man
for 5yrs who beat her every Wednesday and Friday
night, he was clever and only hit her in places that
couldn’t be seen, occasionally forgetting himself
and giving her a black eye and on a few occasions
a broken nose. She got very good at using make up
to hide the abuse and staying in the house until the
bruises disappeared. Her friends did know about
it, but she used to tell them various things to excuse
the behaviour, “it’s not his fault, he had a bad
childhood, if I love him more, then he won’t do it
any more, I need to make more of an effort”. She
went from a fun loving woman to an insecure
terrified woman in those 5 yrs. with no self-esteem
and being afraid of her own shadow.
When she finally left him, she missed him for 6
months and felt lost and alone, this is the danger
time for women who leave abusive situations, they
need support and counselling to get free and stay
free, that is what Halfrida House, gives women in
Uttoxeter.
Halfrida House, is for obvious reasons, in a
secret location, but offers a place for hope for the
future. Their mission statement says, “Halfrida is
a charitable organisation set up to offer emotional
and practical support to women and their children
experiencing domestic violence and abuse in their
personal or family relationships. We treat each
person / child that comes through the door as an
individual. We provide a safe place for women and
their children to rest and recover and a place of
encouragement and support away from the abuse
or the situation they are in, to give them time to
make positive decisions about their future. At
Halfrida House, we offer a complete care package
that includes support in legal and financial areas,
as well as in housing and safety options. We can
also help women access various courses and
counselling as needed.”
If you are reading this article and have had
enough of the abuse but don’t yet feel strong
enough to just leave without support, then get in
touch with Halfrida House in a number of ways,
by calling 01889 569668 or 07483128134 or
07483128135 or by e-mail Info@halfrida.com and
they will take you through the process of referral.
They have a simple form that you can either
complete over the phone with them or by visiting
http://halfrida.com/contact
They promised to provide a holistic approach
to every referral, which ensures the women and
men will be fully supported all through their stay,
and after they have left Halfrida House they will
be accommodated in a new safe environment.
My girlfriend is nearly 30 yrs away from that
decision to leave and although she still has some
ghosts that come back from that time in her life,
with support and counselling over the years, she is
free and has just celebrated her 9th wedding
anniversary to a kind, gentle man who lets her be
herself and loves her for who she is, with no abuse
anywhere to be seen. Good things can be in your
life, you just have to make the decision to ask for
help. Halfrida House will be there for you if you
call, why not take a deep breath and do it.
Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake with Toffee
Sauce
L
ast month it was my daughters 19th birthday
and we agreed for her to have a small
gathering with her friends. One of her
favourite deserts is Sticky Toffee Pudding, so I
decided to make her a cake version. The cake is
made with black treacle and golden syrup with
lovely medjool dates, making a lovely moist
sponge. Then covered with a toffee buttercream,
and finally drizzled with a rich toffee sauce. A
truly delicious cake, which was a great success!
You will need:-
250g dark muscovado sugar
200g unsalted butter
100g golden syrup
100g black treacle
200ml milk
2 large free range eggs
250g plain flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
200g medjool dates, chopped
For the Toffee Sauce -
100g unsalted butter
250 ml double cream
150g demerara sugar
1 tbsp black treacle
For the Toffee Buttercream -
300g icing sugar, sieved
200g unsalted butter, softened
100ml of your Toffee Sauce
Firstly preheat your oven to 160C fan, then
grease and line 3 x 18cm round cake tins.
For the sponges, in a large pan heat the sugar,
butter, treacle and golden syrup, stirring until all
the sugar has dissolved. Then remove the pan from
the heat. Slowly pour the milk into the pan,
whisking continuously, then beat in the eggs until
the mixture is well combined. Sift in the flour and
bicarbonate of soda, the whisk everything together
until smooth.
Finally fold in the chopped medjool dates.
Divide the mixture evenly between your prepared
cake tins, then bake for approx. 30-35 mins until
firm to the touch. Remove from the oven and
leave to cool for 10 mins in the tins, then transfer
to a wire rack.
While the cake is cooling, make your toffee
sauce. In a saucepan, gently heat the butter, double
cream, treacle and sugar until the sugar has
dissolved. Turn up the heat and boil for approx. 5
minutes or until the sauce thickly coats the back
of a metal spoon. Pour the sauce into a jug to cool.
To make the buttercream, Beat together your
softened butter and icing sugar until light and
fluffy, the add 100ml of the cooled toffee sauce.
Mix thoroughly until smooth.
Now you are ready to assemble your cake.
Sandwich your sponge layers together with your
toffee buttercream, leaving enough to cover the top
and sides. I always use a palette knife for this. The
top should be smooth and the edges neat. I then
chill the cake for about 30 minutes for the
buttercream to set.
Gently heat the remaining toffee sauce until it
is just pourable, but not warm enough to melt the
buttercream. Pour the sauce directly onto the
centre of the cake, the push it to the edges so that
it drizzles over.
I managed to save a couple of slices for the
following day, which I heated and served with a
lovely vanilla ice cream. Absolutely delicious!

Golden Memories from one of Uttoxeter’s
Favourite Characters
Just a brief column this month
during a busy time at present for me
while I put the final touches to my
future larger contented columns.
I have recently become a
grandfather for the first time with my
daughter giving birth to a gorgeous
baby girl and as she lives a good way
away in Edinburgh I do not get to see
them as often as I would like to, so
she sends the wife and I photographs
of her virtually every week to show
us how she is growing up.
One of the last ones (featured
below) shows my granddaughter
Lois (far left) with her 4 friends at a
Mothers and Babies social meeting
when they were all about 4 months
old.
The reason I am putting this
picture in my column is that it
reminds me of another photo in my
possession of another relative of
mine, my wife’s grandfather pictured
2nd from the left pictured with his
mates when they were all over 70
years old milling over their past lives
whilst the one of my granddaughter
shows her and her mates looking
forward to theirs.
Somehow it brings over to you
how very short life is indeed.
Till next time,

Back Pain Part 2
Last month we started to discuss
back pain and as this is such a large
complex area we broke it down to two
parts. We know lower back pain effects
around 80% of the population at some
point in their lives and can range from
small niggles to crippling pain that alters
your lifestyle.
In part one we focused on disc
related back pain, the signs &
symptoms of emergency situations, how
to conservatively manage the acute pain
and the prevention of long term back
pain. In this issue we shall discuss how
the joints, muscles and ligaments can
cause pain and what to look out for.
Facet Joint Pain:
The facet joints are small sliding
surfaces between and on both sides of
each vertebra. They prevent excessive
movement of the spine by limiting the
range of each segment whilst also
allowing movement by sliding on top of
each other. The joints are covered in a
thin film called cartilage and a small
sack of lubricating fluid surrounds the
joint.
If for some reason you wear down
the cartilage in the facet joint it can
make the joint irritated and inflamed.
This could then cause a protective
reaction within your body where the
muscles parallel to your spine go into
spasm. When a muscle goes into spasm
it can change the posture of your back
which in itself can be uncomfortable.
Symptoms associated to facet joint
lower back pain may well be a specific
area of pain over the offending facet
joint; you may notice the local
musculature is in spasm and it may be
uncomfortable to lean backwards or
rotate to look over one shoulder.
Pain down your buttock and to the
back of your knee could also be present.
Sitting, standing and driving often
irritate facet joint problems and
episodes of pain often appear sporadic
and unpredictable.
Muscle Strain or Ligament Sprain:
Back pain can also be the result of a
muscle strain or ligament sprain most
likely to have occurred with poor lifting
technique or during a physical activity.
You may note tenderness around the
affected area and a feeling of stiffness as
the muscles can go into spasm, which
will limit range of movement.
The pain is usually located local to
the site of injury and does not radiate
down into the buttock or leg. It is likely
to have a sudden onset associated to an
event. Unlike disc related lower back
pain this type of pain usually eases with
rest.
Spinal Fractures:
A‘spondylolysis’ is a fracture known
as a Pars defect which can be caused by
repetitive extension activity to the
lumbar spine. This is more commonly
seen in athletes such as gymnasts,
cricketers, tennis players, rowers or
those whose sporting activities are
overhead.
You may experience local or referred
pain into the buttock which may be
aggravated for example by leaning
backwards or by continuing with your
sporting activity. You may find the pain
is located to the opposite side of your
dominant sporting hand.A right handed
tennis player may experience pain into
the left side of their lower back.
A Pars defect that occurs both sides
‘spondylolythesis’ is where the vertebrae
slide out of alignment. This usually
develops in early childhood and is most
commonly seen between the ages of 9-
14. There is a definite family
predisposition with this cause.
Spinal Stenosis:
Narrowing of the spinal canal
develops with the aging process and
degenerative changes. With this type of
narrowing you may start to notice
referred pain into the legs especially into
the calves during walking, this may then
disperse after a brief rest. You may also
notice weakness or numbness in to the
legs.
Visually you may see that the leg has
lost muscle size and feels cold. Typically
you will not like standing for prolonged
periods or leaning backwards. Some
relief is provided by bending forwards
as though you are tying your shoelaces.
Referred Pain:
Finally we need to discuss that the
lower back pain can be referred from
elsewhere in the body. It is well
documented that the hips, the sacro iliac
joints and muscular trigger points often
refer pain to the back. There are many
other possibilities for referred pain
which is why it is so complicated to
diagnose and mange in an appropriate
and safe manner.
My personal recommendation is to
see a clinical professional as soon as you
can, get a realistic idea of what is going
on and how best to move forward to
help your current symptoms and then to
prevent any reoccurrences if possible.
Last month’s column provides a guide
on what can be done in the short and
long term, so please take a look or feel
free to contact me should you require
any further advice.

A
lovely Sunny day for a change, as previous
years has not been kind to us on the weather
front. Reg I am sure was looking down and
smiling at the players as they contested the 18 holes
at the Manor Golf Club.
Sarah, Phil and all of the staff at the Manor made
all players feel welcome and valued as they looked
after us all really well. The event normally sells out
but this year we struggled for numbers with a large
number of the regular players being unavailable for
the past few years we have had 20 x teams of 4
players but this year we only had 13 x teams of 4
players. All 52 players gave it their all with some
really good scores in both the individual and team
competitions with some of the scores falling into the
‘Bandits’catergory.
Paul Hassall did everyone proud by getting a
pack of 3 x golf balls and some terrific
trophies/prizes for each player courtesy of his
company Pro Hire Ltd. All 52 x players had the
opportunity to win a £15k car for a hole in one on
the 16th hole and last year’s Singles winner, Tommy
Smith actually hit the flag so near yet so far away
from having a brand new motor. Holidays and golf
clubs were available to be won for a hole in one on
the other par 3’s but no one was able to hit an Ace
this year.
M. Evans and Nigel Ainge were the only 2 x
players to get a two and split the prize pot of £104,
so they went home happy and £52 the richer.
The singles completion was won with a terrific
score of 47 stableford points and 2 players got this
total, Bob Maxwell off his 24 handicap and the
eventual winner Shawn Hall off his 16 handicap.
Shawn winning on count back. Both players shot 11
shots under their handicaps and be warned chaps
the organiser will be sharpening his guilotene as you
will be both chopped shots next year but really well
played the pair of you. Third place was Dave Parkes
with 43 stableford points, this would normally win,
so well played and hard luck.
The following prizes were won on the day

ery suddenly
and sadly in
December
2016 Jodie
Rowlinson lost her
life at the
devastatingly young
age of 46. This left
her husband Lee,
sons Jamie, Adam
and Liam along
with the rest of her
family and
numerous friends
absolutely
devastated but as an
absolute credit to
how strong her
family are instead of
sitting back and doing nothing Jamie and Adam
decided that they wanted to do something in
Jodie’s memory.
Unfortunately Liam is away for most of this
year with his job but Jamie and Adam wanted to
set themselves a challenge that would raise
money for two fantastic charities, Diabetes UK
and Dove Valley First Responders. Diabetes UK
because Jodie had died of complications from her
diabetes and Dove Valley First Responders as
they had desperately tried to revive Jodie but to
no avail.
The lads decided to cycle from John O Groats
to Lands End and set themselves a very
ambitious amount of £8000 to try and achieve to
be split between the two charities.
Jodie was a keen darts player and had been a
member of a few local teams for a number of
years but for the last five or so years she had
played with the Black Swan DD ladies winter
league team. Obviously the impact of losing one
of their friends had a massive impact on the rest
of the ladies in the team and her loss was heart
breaking for them too. They came together and
decided they wanted to help Jodie’s sons try to
reach their target for the two charities so decided
to hold a charity darts night.
On Friday 30th June 2017 this was held at
Bradley House in Uttoxeter. There were two
competitions held, one for men and one for
women with cash prizes donated to both the
runners up and winners. There was also a huge
raffle with over 80 prizes donated from both
companies and individuals. There was a £5
charge for entrance into the darts competition
and the turnout on the night was overwhelming
for the ladies who had organised things. The
support from everyone was astounding and a
testament to how special Jodie was. The runners
up on the night were Kirk Connell in the men’s
game and Louise Barker in the women’s, the
winner of the men’s game was Steve Finney and
the women’s winner was Karen Osborne. Also a
thank you to the winners who very kindly
donated their prize money back to us. The
generosity and support has been totally amazing.
The grand total raised on the night was
£2325.00 but the challenges did not stop there!
On Sunday 24th July Jamie and Adam set off the
John O’ Groats in preparation of their cycle trek
to start on Monday 25th July 2017. For the first
week of their expedition they had support from
Aubrey Leese who drove a support van which
was kindly leant to them for free from Angus
MacKinnon Motors. It was Aubrey’s job to
make sure the lads had hot drinks and food on
route as they were cycling a minimum of 75
miles a day. They had to endure the great British
weather during this time and cycling through the
Highlands was not the easiest of tasks. On
Saturday 29th July the role of support driver was
handed over from Aubrey to Lee Rowlinson,
their dad and also Laura Rowlinson, Adam’s wife
who took them from Carlisle right down to
Lands End eventually arriving on Thursday 3rd
August 2017. After a gruelling 11 days they had
completed it!
This took so much courage and determination
especially through the cramps, aches, swollen
knees and punctures of their tyres. However,
those people following the progress on their
Facebook page, Adam and Jamie’s Charity Cycle
will have seen the very funny videos and
commentary that was posted along the way. This
had people in hysterics and the support that was
gained was absolutely amazing. The Facebook
page is staying open if anyone would still like to
donate, just click the Shop Now button and this
will take you to the Just Giving web page. Please
check this out if only to see the very funny
videos. The total is still rising on this so it is
expected that the £8000 will be surpassed which
is a very gallant effort by all of the supporters.

Bake’s Memoirs
by Neil Baker, local sporting legend
N
o apologies for starting on a sombre note.
We buried former chairman of Leek CSOB,
Ken Hill recently. I’m sure a lot of people
involved in football in Staffordshire would have
come into contact with him. He was a real
gentleman and never had a bad word for anyone
and after a long illness left us in early September.
I remember the day well when he and Stan
Lockett, another CSOB stalwart, came round my
house and persuaded me to become their manager.
This was in 1984 and how could I say no to two
fine men who had devoted their footballing lives to
one club.
I only had two years with them before moving
on to Leek Town but they were two enjoyable
years. The first was in the County League and the
next was as a founder member of the Staffordshire
Senior league. This was a massive step up for the
club competing against the best Saturday teams in
the area.
We survived that season and got to the final of
the league cup losing to Wereton Queens Park in
the final. I remember that cup run for two reasons,
one that former Port Vale player and now coach to
Neil Warnock at Cardiff City Ronnie Jepson played
for Wereton QP and the second that we beat
Ipstones in an earlier round who at the time were
managed by my old pal Alan Smith. Of course
Smithy will have conveniently forgotten that!
I got an invite to Uttoxeter Races last
Wednesday. I went with Radio Stoke head of sport,
Graham McGarry and my mate Rob Lovatt. What
a super course it is now. Not too busy, plenty of
different food available and a seat if that’s what you
want. I won’t go to the big meetings now as it gets
far too busy, in fact the last time we went to the
Cheltenham Festival we came out after the first
race. We had to queue to get a bet on, wait ages for
food and drink and getting to the toilet was hard
work. We came out and drove up to Evesham.
Found a Weatherspoon’s and a Coral bookmakers
just up the road. Far more enjoyable and much
cheaper than Cheltenham!
At Uttoxeter I met up with some old faces and
others from around the area who I knew but
couldn’t put a name to a face. They call it old age!
We were invited into the parade ring to present
a prize to the best turned out horse in one race and
the owners of the winning horse in another. The
fellow on the microphone (I forget his name) was a
real nice guy and very knowledgeable on his racing
and also his football. He was a Burton Albion
supporter and we all praised the work done at the
club by Ben Robinson and his board of directors
and Nigel Clough. A club that punch above their
weight in the Championship on very modest gates
but remain competitive against far bigger clubs. A
remarkable achievement.
I mentioned to him that I was interviewed for
the manager's post a few years ago but Paul
Peschisolido got the job. Sure it had nothing to do
with his wife who was a director at Birmingham
City at the time, Karren Brady. I couldn’t
understand that, after all what had she got that I
hadn’t apart from being very wealthy and
gorgeous!
Coming out of the parade ring I bumped into
former Cheadle CC professional Russ Flower. He
told me he had just lost his wife. Russ is another
nice man who I hadn’t seen for a good few years. I
can recall making my debut for the first team at
Cheadle aged just 16. We were playing Congleton
at home. I was a nervous young man as I entered
the dressing room but Russ came straight over to
me, shook my hand and said ‘So this is the run
machine’. He made me feel at ease and was always
there to offer advice and support. He tells me that
he still follows local cricket and is involved at Stone
CC.
I left Russ and then met up with Alan Beaman
and Kev Barry. Alan, you all know how I respect
his achievements in football and how he now passes
on his knowledge and experience to young players
in Cheadle. Kevin is still regarded as one of the
finest players to play in the town by a lot of good
judges. We spent a few minutes chatting together
but could have stayed all afternoon and some more,
talking about our favourite pastime.
The afternoon flew by which always tells you
what a good time has been had. Having a couple of
winners on the day helps!
I mentioned in the last Voice about a charity
game that we were trying to organise between
Cheadle and Leek veterans, still no date yet but it
will go ahead.
All the best, Bake.
All-time local soccer
Hall of Fame Team
By Roy ‘Razzer’Astbury
Each month Uttoxeter’s best known character Roy ‘Razzer’
Astbury will compile his very own ‘All-Time Local
Football Team’which in his opinion is the very
best of players past and present.
‘Razzer’will create a team in each issue
of The Uttoxeter & Cheadle Voice which
he believes incorporates all the
ingredients of a football outfit which
could be unbeatable!
He will be delving into his
thoughts to remember all the
terrific players in years gone by
whilst selecting those who are
exceptional in our present
day.
It should be a
fantastic talking point
in our community and
no doubt you all will
have your views
on ‘Razzer’s Hall
of Fame team.
STEVE BOULD
JCB
Steve could play in any
position in the team as
he was so adaptable
and competitive.
KEITH ‘SCOUSE’ PARKER
One of those old fashioned ‘you
will not pass’centre halves! His
characteristic voice could be
heard miles away as he gave his
fellow team-mates great
support. Top player, top guy too.
TERRY STARTIN
Marchington
Ultra competitive in the
tackle and a talented player
too. Any team would love
to have had Terry in their
starting line-up.
PAUL RILEY
Rocester
Classy individual and a
superb tackler and passer
of a football.
DENNIS BOWN
Doveridge
Speedy player with lots of
footballing skills. Good
vision too.
ALAN ROWE
Cross Keys
Terrific pace and trickery on the
ball, Alan used to go past
defenders as though they were
stood still.
BILLY FALLOWS
Bamfords
Lots of talent and bags of
courage, Billy was a really
excellent player for Bamfords.
ALAN BOWN
Uttoxeter Town
Hugely talented player who
could turn a game on its head
with a flash of brilliance.
TIM SHAW
Marchington
Good goalscorer and a handful
to opposing defenders.
COREY JOHNSON
Rocester
Corey was a brilliant goalscorer
who had that magical gift of being
in the right place at the right time.
In the same top class niche as a
goalscorer as Micky Collins!
MARK PARRINGTON
JCB
A terrific goalkeeper who possessed great shot-
stopping abilities. Mark ruled his penalty area
and he was a superb local keeper.
We have inserted one football club each
player has performed for.
Obviously, many have played for several
clubs in their careers.
