Collaboration between EDA's and WIB's requires a paradigm shift. Traditionally economic development organizations were charged with attracting business -typically industrial firms - while workforce development organizations played a more transactional role of training and job match-making. Their tools, strategies and resources have been vastly different from each other and sometimes even at odds. But that is now changing. Several communities have successfully brought together economic development and workforce development organizations by aligning goals and simultaneously strengthening the economic eco-system.
The driving force behind this convergence is the realization that a talented labor supply is key to the economic prosperity of the community. Site selectors report a talented workers trump all other considerations fro businesses locating to a new area. Similarly a steady stream of talented employees can help retain and expand strong industries and clusters.
Building this pipeline of workers requires input on future needs of companies from economic development as well as input from workforce development on where to find and train the workers for these future opportunities.

Collaboration between EDA's and WIB's requires a paradigm shift. Traditionally economic development organizations were charged with attracting business -typically industrial firms - while workforce development organizations played a more transactional role of training and job match-making. Their tools, strategies and resources have been vastly different from each other and sometimes even at odds. But that is now changing. Several communities have successfully brought together economic development and workforce development organizations by aligning goals and simultaneously strengthening the economic eco-system.
The driving force behind this convergence is the realization that a talented labor supply is key to the economic prosperity of the community. Site selectors report a talented workers trump all other considerations fro businesses locating to a new area. Similarly a steady stream of talented employees can help retain and expand strong industries and clusters.
Building this pipeline of workers requires input on future needs of companies from economic development as well as input from workforce development on where to find and train the workers for these future opportunities.

I was honoured to be asked to speak at the CBI's annual dinner in Sheffield on the 5th of March. While there, I highlighted how founders4schools and workfinder worked with communities throughout the UK to develop and sustain learning and to drive economic growth. I spoke about our use of AI and ML so that we supported the learning and development of teachers who were not expert in local labour market economics so that they felt more comfortable reaching out to the business community and guiding students in their classrooms about roles they might hold in business in the future. I spoke about how the endorsement of the CBI in Scotland had brought about more than 30% of all children nation-wide benefitting from our services and how in some communities all the students had met business volunteers in their classrooms, while in others, none had. We share the dream of reducing regional disparity so that all students in all cities, towns and villages meet business leaders in their classrooms at least once per term. No one should be left behind - and together we can bring this about.

Intentions Brought Up Over The Last Three Days Intentions • Initiate a plan of action to create a better ‘work-entrant’ trajectory for youth demographic. • Demonstrate Youth Enterprise intentions in same voice and language as the governments. • Advocate new collaborative NGO and GO formats / procedures, changing mindsets about ‘Keeping Things Local’. • Strengthen present Youth Enterprise networks across the Pacific countries representing a more singular and cohesive voice. • Re-engineering educational system incorporating more vocational and work relatable relevance to current workforce requirements • Outline more clearly the position for Youth Enterprise in the Pacific

Growth Imperatives for the Pacific Educational Reform Education, vocational and labor alignment • Establish vocational avenues aligned to pacific labor requirements • Extend QC / accreditation processes across all aspects vocational training • Review and align exportability of programs on a regular basis for the pacific and a little beyond GO & NGO Advocacy Towards Youth Enterprise • Establishing and internalizing a ‘Keep The Money Local’ mindset • Perhaps incorporate the subject of YOUTH alongside COMMUNITY AND SPORTS as an initial.
