2. Objective of Lesson
✓To better understand how God loved
us
✓To understand how we must love
others.
✓To show the necessity & impact of
brotherly love.
3. A New Commandment
• John 13:34 “A new
commandment I give to
you, that you love one
another, even as I have
loved you, that you also
love one another.
• By this all men will
know that you are My
disciples, if you have
love for one another.”
4. How did God love us?
• In a self sacrificing way (Romans 5:6-11)
• He left heaven & took on flesh (John 1:14 &17, Heb. 2:17)
• He emptied Himself, He was humble (Philippians 2:5-8)
• In a healing & compassionate way (Matthew 11:28-20,
14:14, 15:32)
• He taught us (Matthew 4:23-5:2; Mark 6:34)
• He prepared for us a dwelling place (John 14:1-3, Col.1:5)
5. He taught us how to be reviled & bless
Romans 12:14
6. Revile, but still bless
• Matthew 27:12-14
• Notice He did not respond
(Proverbs 26:4-5, Isaiah
53:7)
• Matthew 27:38-44
• They heaped abuse at
Jesus and He did not
respond by calling legions
of angels! (Matthew
26:53)
7. 1 Corinthians 4:12-14
➡And we labour (toil), working with our own
hands. When reviled we bless; when
persecuted we endure it
➡when slandered (defamed) we speak kindly
(we entreat): we have become as the filth
(scum) of the world, the refuse of all things.
➡I do not write these things to make you
ashamed, but to admonish (warn) you as my
beloved children
8. He taught us to love while suffering
Romans 12:17
9. Love while suffering
• John 19:25-29
• With nails in His hands
and feet…
• With a lacerated body…
• With a crown of thorns
on His head…
• He still takes care of
His mother.
10. He taught us to forgive while suffering
Romans 13 : 8 & 10
11. Forgive while suffering
• Luke 23:32-43
• Remember the two
robbers (Matthew 27:44)
• Remember the chief
priest, elders, those
passing by accusing
Him and reviling HIM?
• He says “Father,
forgive them;”
13. Perseverance while suffering
• Having prayed earnestly in the
garden & being strengthened
(Luke 22:43-44)
• Being scourged….(Mt. 27:26)
• Being mocked & spat upon
(Mt. 27:27-30)
• He endures the cross ….
Mt.27:45-50….twmp
• He is crucified and hangs on
the cross for three hours!
14. Our love must be evidenced
John 15:8
My father is
glorified by this,
that you bear
much fruit, and so
prove to be My
disciples.
