A city is considering reidevelopment of existing 500 ha of industrial lands to an area of mixed use (residential, commercial, and institutional). The land has housed a number of industries over the last several decades, which has resulted in significant contamination of soil groundwater. Following the CSCE Guildlines for Sustainable Development, decribe some considerations you would have if you were tasked with one of the following: a) developing an integrated water management plan (i.e. drinking water, wastewater and stormwater management) for the development. b) working with architects in planning and design of new buildings to be constructed on the property. c) preparing a transportation master plan (all forms of transportation) for the site.. Solution a) Drinking Water- Treatment plant has to be provided as per codal provisions for water purity for drinking. Estimation of drinking water should be done by proper expectation for 50 or design life time for treatment system. Based on the usage KLD per day by different means & intensity we need to expect the need for the system. Waste water - Based on usage wastage expected by different means of system & the same has to be properly treated befre it comes out and disposed to river or lake or reusage by other means. b) New buildings are planned based on traffic analysis & proper town planning so that addition wont object present Eco System. c) Transport system- Based on people statistics, like age , type of people we have to project the common and most usable transport , It may be BRTS, Metro or Local network. .
