JUST PERSON IS A LIGHT IN DARKNESS TO THE
UPRIGHT.”
Today is the 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time. There is an emphasis in today’s Scripture
Readings on making the Christian faith shine in our lives. The Gospel Reading of
today from St. Matthew, calls us to be deeply aware of our Christian dignity and
responsibility as “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world.” Salt and light are
powerful images of discipleship. What does it mean to be salt and light? The First
Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah speaks in terms of justice and
compassionate care for the weak, needy and vulnerable. For, through them the very
goodness of God is revealed. And in that way, the disciple’s light will shine like the
dawn. The Responsorial Psalm corroborates with this saying that “The just person is
a light in darkness to the upright.” The Second Reading from St. Paul's 1 st Letter to
the Corinthians intensifies the Christian character of our vocation as “the light of the
world.” The light we are to bring is light concerning the central object of our faith,
namely, “Christ crucified.” It is for this that the Spirit fills us with his power.

Sisters for Africa who will speak at all Masses this weekend. Sr. Rena will share with
us the work of the Order in Africa and ask for your prayers and support in the

Tax Reclaim Forms
We are currently reclaiming tax on your kind donation to our Church
during 2013. You should have received a letter and tax form by post.
Please fill in the form with your PPs number and sign in the places indicated. You can
return the form via or Sunday collection, to the presbytery or drop it into the Sunday
collection. If you have not receive a form and are a PAYE worker copies are now
available at the back and side door.

Recent Baptisms
Congratulations to Shane and Catriona O’Gara, Cairns Hill, and we

Please Note : the new Baptism course for all who are preparing for
Baptism takes place on the third Thursday of each month in the Family Life
Centre, Church Hill, Sligo. Your local priest will book the course.

Urgently Needs Clothes Donations at our Oxfam store on Grattan Street we are
currently very short of donations/stock. Donations of unwanted quality items

Tobernalt Holy Well
A must see for those in the area. Tobernalt Holy Well is a beautiful place to reflect, pray
and enjoy an hour or two. It is hard to find so be sure to ask a local your first time there.

Our Holy Well attracts people from all over the world. It is a local site of prayer and a
unique place for many to visit, ponder and pray. Please keep the ground tidy and
clean. Information about the Holy Well is posted on the notice board at the entrance.

St; John’s FC 5km Roads Race
Takes place on Sunday 9th March beginning at 2pm, starting and finishing at Cuilbeg.
Registration on the day from 12:30pm – 1:30pm. €10 per person, for runners and
walkers. Please support.
