When my children were born in the mid-1990s, new parents could already see that prenatal genetic testing was altering the terrain of pregnancy and childbirth. Growing numbers of educated women were having children at older ages, with resulting difficulties and risks. More and more parents faced challenging, deeply personal decisions about whether to engage in genetic testing and what to do if they received unfavorable results.
I remember my own anxieties when my wife, Veronica, took a blood test that searched for elevated alpha-fetoproteins, which are associated with diverse ailments ranging from spina bifida to anencephaly. The mere prospect of these rare conditions--and even the choice to undergo the tests--was surprisingly painful. At least genetic counselors and other professionals were available to help guide us.

Genetically screening our offspring to make them better people is just “responsible parenting”, claims an eminent Oxford academic, The Telegraph reports.
Professor Julian Savulescu, editor-in-chief of the Journal of Medical Ethics, said that creating so-called designer babies could be considered a “moral obligation” as it makes them grow up into “ethically better children”, this based on a few genetic links to ‘personality disorders’.
He said that we should actively give parents the choice to screen out personality flaws in their children as it meant they were then less likely to “harm themselves and others”.
Studies show that the child’s upbringing, including parenthood and schooling methods are the root causes of many ‘personality flaws’. Other studies give strong evidence that nutrition, meditation and exercise greatly influence behavioural patterns and emotional well-being. This entire theory is also blind to the side effects of many medicines, vaccines, food additives and (some) GMO foods that have been proven to affect psychological behaviour, and this isn’t even touching on the possible beneficial use of marijuana and other substances for those with undesired personality traits.
“Surely trying to ensure that your children have the best, or a good enough, opportunity for a great life is responsible parenting?” wrote Prof Savulescu, the Uehiro Professor in practical ethics.

Genetically screening our offspring to make them better people is just “responsible parenting”, claims an eminent Oxford academic, The Telegraph reports.
Professor Julian Savulescu, editor-in-chief of the Journal of Medical Ethics, said that creating so-called designer babies could be considered a “moral obligation” as it makes them grow up into “ethically better children”, this based on a few genetic links to ‘personality disorders’.
He said that we should actively give parents the choice to screen out personality flaws in their children as it meant they were then less likely to “harm themselves and others”.
Studies show that the child’s upbringing, including parenthood and schooling methods are the root causes of many ‘personality flaws’. Other studies give strong evidence that nutrition, meditation and exercise greatly influence behavioural patterns and emotional well-being. This entire theory is also blind to the side effects of many medicines, vaccines, food additives and (some) GMO foods that have been proven to affect psychological behaviour, and this isn’t even touching on the possible beneficial use of marijuana and other substances for those with undesired personality traits.

USA PATRIOT Act and Academic Freedom (Boss, 1, p. 488)
A senior at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, was visited at his parent’s home by federal agents after he requested a copy of The Little Red Book, Mao Tse-Tung’s book on communism. The student who requested the book through the university library’s inter-library loan was doing a research paper on communism for a class on totalitarianism and fascism. The two agents who came to his home said the book was on a “watch list” and that the student’s background, which included “significant time abroad,” prompted them to investigate.
His professor told reporters that he suspected that there is a lot more monitoring of student and faculty activities by federal agents than most people realize. The professor also reconsidered a class that he was going to teach on terrorism because he feared it might put the students at risk. “I shudder to think of all the students I’ve had monitoring al-Qaeda websites, what the government must think of that,” he said. “Mao Tse-Tung is completely harmless."
The USA PATRIOT Act overrides library confidentiality laws. The Department of Homeland Security has the authority to monitor college students’ and professors’ library borrowing records, Internet records, and e-mails, as well as international travel and phone calls. In addition, librarians are bound by a gag order. Once records are requested, librarians are not.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

- 21. Audrey R. Chapman Dr. Chapman got her Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) at Columbia University, her M. Div. (Master if Divinity) at New York Theological Seminary, and an S.T.M. (Master of Sacred Theology) at Union Theological Seminary. “Dr. Chapman began her professional career as a faculty member in the Political Science Department at Barnard College,” (“Audrey R. Chapman, Ph.D., M. Div., S.T.M.” 1) after which she worked in Ghana, Lebanon, and Kenya. She then spent 15 years in high positions within the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She has written or edited eighteen books and countless articles. Currently, she teaches “courses dealing with the ethical and policy dimensions of stem cell research, health and human rights, spirituality and medicine, and the challenges of end of life care” (“Audrey R. Chapman, Ph.D., M. Div., S.T.M.” 4) at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
- 22. Mark S. Frankel Mark S. Frankel, Ph. D. earned his B.A. from Emory University in political science and at George Washington University, he earned his Ph. D. in political science, focusing on science policy. His feild is based upon the legality and ethics of biomedical research. He is the directior of the Scientific Freedom, Responsibility and Law Program at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and he has supervised the writing of multiple books.
- 23. Michael J. Sandel Michael J. Sandel earned his doctorate at Oxford University and is the professor of government at Harvard University. He has written a multitude of books about ethics related to laws and justice that have been translated into ten different languages. He received the Harvard-Radcliffe Phi Beta Kappa teaching prize and later became a professor at Harvard in 1999. Sandel has also held many lectures all over the world.

He has also been on several radio talk shows and is the national director of Probe Ministries International, a foundation dedicated to spreading the Christian faith.
- 25. Nicholas Agar Nicholas Agar has been a professor of ethics at VUW (Victoria University of Wellington) since 1996. He got is masters degree at VUW and went to the Australian National University for his Ph. D. He has written several books and essays. He mainly researches new genetics and ethics.
