COMPLETE SPECIFICATION
Improvements in or relating to Mirrors I, MARJORIE LAVELLE, of 6,
Thurloe Gardens, Romford, Essex, a British subject, do hereby declare
the invention for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and
the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly
described in and by the following statement: -
This invention relates to mirrors and in particular to mirrors for use
by ladies in the execution of their toilet.
It is found essential in some circumstances for ladies to make use of
a hand mirror together with a dressing mirror to allow those parts of
the head to be seen which are not directly viewed in the dessing
mirror. Furthermore, when it is required to apply make-up to the face
it is necessary for the mirror being used to be brought close to the
face and this is not always possible with a dressing-table mirror and
the use of a hand mirror is again desirable. Also, dressing table
mirrors are not always placed in the best position for light and a
hand mirror may be carried into the best lighted position.
Now the disadvantage of a hand mirror is that one hand is occupied
while it is in use and it is therefore the object of the present
invention to provide a mirror supported from the floor adjustable as,
to height, position angle and so on which will serve the purposes
hitherto served by a hand mirror and allow the free use of both hands.
The invention consists in a mirror of the kind supported upon a stand
unon the floor and adjustable as to height characterised in that the
stand comprises a pair of parallel tubular members adapted to be
supported vertically, one by means of a base at one end upon the floor
land the other upon the first tubular member adjustable longitudinally
thereof to vary the distance of overlap of the tubular members, the
end of the other tubular member remote from the floor being provided
with support means for the mirror, while a tray is provided which is
removably supported upon the tubular member having the base and at
right angles to said member.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way [Price 3s. 6d.] of example
only, one embodiment of the invention in which:- 50 Figure 1 is a
perspective view of the whole of the device, while Figure 2 is a view
of the rear of the device showing the way in which the tray is
attached.
The tubular member 1 which supports the 55 tray and mirror is fixed to
the ball 2 by being screw threaded so that it can be removed when it
is required to transport the device. The three legs 3 are bent at
their ends in order to raise the ball 2 above the floor and are
provided with tubular struts 4, also removable by unscrewing, to make
the structure rigid and which are fastened at their upper ends to the
ring 5 fixed to the tubular member 1.
The tubular member 6, to which is fitted 65 the mirror, is held
parallel to the tubular member 1 by the two shaped wood blocks 7 and 8
both having bores which are tight fits upon the tube 1 and sliding
fits upon the tube 6, the tube being held at its required height by 70
means of the milled headed screw 9.
The mirror frame 10 is supported for rotation about a horizontal axis
in the bearings 11 upon the U-shaped tube 12 which in turn is
rotatable about a vertical axis upon the bearing 75 13, the later
being provided with a stop pin which restricts the latter movement to
about 120 . The upper ends of the U-shaped tube are provided with
holders for electric lamps 14.
The wire 15 feeding the electric lamps passes 80 up the tubular member
6, as shown, through the bearing 13 and up the sides of the Ushaped
tube.
The mirror frame 10 carries on one side a plane mirror 16 and on the
other side a concave mirror 17, which may be brought into use
alternatively by turning the mirror frame over.
The lower block 8 provides support for the metal tray 18 which is
provided with partitions dividing it into compartments for holding the
materials and implements required.
This tray is covered with a pair of sheets of transparent material 19,
in this case synthetic resin, but of course, could be glass, each of
95 which is rotatable about a screw 20 fastened vlce 0S to the tray
one on each side of the member 6 so as to be capable of being turned
to the rear of the tray and supported upon the triangular extension
21.
The tray 18 is held securely by the block 8 by means of the U-shaped
member 22 which has a milled headed bolt 23 which passes through a
bore in the block and into a screw threaded bore in the other side of
the member 22. The tray can be easily removed when the device is being
transported or stored.
It can be seen from the above description that the device may be
easily separated into a number of parts for packing for transport,
when for example, the user is travelling, and that it may equally
easily be re-assembled on arrival It is to be understood that the
foregoing description is by way of example only and that the tray may
be one of a number of different shapes, with or without partitions and
the removable top, which if provided may be l. lifted off in one
piece, or be hinged at its ends when in two parts or be slidable
forward and so on, and other details for carrying the invention may be
varied without departing from the scope of the invention.

COMPLETE SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to Mirrors I, MARJORIE LAVELLE, of 6, Thurloe Gardens, Romford, Essex, a British subject, do hereby declare the invention for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: - This invention relates to mirrors and in particular to mirrors for use by ladies in the execution of their toilet. It is found essential in some circumstances for ladies to make use of a hand mirror together with a dressing mirror to allow those parts of the head to be seen which are not directly viewed in the dessing mirror. Furthermore, when it is required to apply make-up to the face it is necessary for the mirror being used to be brought close to the face and this is not always possible with a dressing-table mirror and the use of a hand mirror is again desirable. Also, dressing table mirrors are not always placed in the best position for light and a hand mirror may be carried into the best lighted position. Now the disadvantage of a hand mirror is that one hand is occupied while it is in use and it is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a mirror supported from the floor adjustable as, to height, position angle and so on which will serve the purposes hitherto served by a hand mirror and allow the free use of both hands. The invention consists in a mirror of the kind supported upon a stand
  • 2. unon the floor and adjustable as to height characterised in that the stand comprises a pair of parallel tubular members adapted to be supported vertically, one by means of a base at one end upon the floor land the other upon the first tubular member adjustable longitudinally thereof to vary the distance of overlap of the tubular members, the end of the other tubular member remote from the floor being provided with support means for the mirror, while a tray is provided which is removably supported upon the tubular member having the base and at right angles to said member. The accompanying drawing shows, by way [Price 3s. 6d.] of example only, one embodiment of the invention in which:- 50 Figure 1 is a perspective view of the whole of the device, while Figure 2 is a view of the rear of the device showing the way in which the tray is attached. The tubular member 1 which supports the 55 tray and mirror is fixed to the ball 2 by being screw threaded so that it can be removed when it is required to transport the device. The three legs 3 are bent at their ends in order to raise the ball 2 above the floor and are provided with tubular struts 4, also removable by unscrewing, to make the structure rigid and which are fastened at their upper ends to the ring 5 fixed to the tubular member 1. The tubular member 6, to which is fitted 65 the mirror, is held parallel to the tubular member 1 by the two shaped wood blocks 7 and 8 both having bores which are tight fits upon the tube 1 and sliding fits upon the tube 6, the tube being held at its required height by 70 means of the milled headed screw 9. The mirror frame 10 is supported for rotation about a horizontal axis in the bearings 11 upon the U-shaped tube 12 which in turn is rotatable about a vertical axis upon the bearing 75 13, the later being provided with a stop pin which restricts the latter movement to about 120 . The upper ends of the U-shaped tube are provided with holders for electric lamps 14. The wire 15 feeding the electric lamps passes 80 up the tubular member 6, as shown, through the bearing 13 and up the sides of the Ushaped tube. The mirror frame 10 carries on one side a plane mirror 16 and on the other side a concave mirror 17, which may be brought into use alternatively by turning the mirror frame over. The lower block 8 provides support for the metal tray 18 which is provided with partitions dividing it into compartments for holding the materials and implements required. This tray is covered with a pair of sheets of transparent material 19, in this case synthetic resin, but of course, could be glass, each of 95 which is rotatable about a screw 20 fastened vlce 0S to the tray
  • 3. one on each side of the member 6 so as to be capable of being turned to the rear of the tray and supported upon the triangular extension 21. The tray 18 is held securely by the block 8 by means of the U-shaped member 22 which has a milled headed bolt 23 which passes through a bore in the block and into a screw threaded bore in the other side of the member 22. The tray can be easily removed when the device is being transported or stored. It can be seen from the above description that the device may be easily separated into a number of parts for packing for transport, when for example, the user is travelling, and that it may equally easily be re-assembled on arrival It is to be understood that the foregoing description is by way of example only and that the tray may be one of a number of different shapes, with or without partitions and the removable top, which if provided may be l. lifted off in one piece, or be hinged at its ends when in two parts or be slidable forward and so on, and other details for carrying the invention may be varied without departing from the scope of the invention. * Sitemap * Accessibility * Legal notice * Terms of use * Last updated: 08.04.2015 * Worldwide Database * 5.8.23.4; 93p
