7.2 Writing and Solving Proportions Day 2
Essential Questions What is the connection between a ratio and a fraction? Why are ratios and proportions important? How are scale drawings, models, and proportions used in everyday life?
A scale drawing shows the shape of an object but not the actual size. A scale give the ratio of the measurements in the drawing – such as 1:10 scale. This might mean “scale to actual” is 1 to 10 or the actual object is 10 times larger.
A map states that 1 in = 50 miles. If the distance on the map between two cites is 2.8 inches, how far actually are the two cities apart? Scale Actual
Lady bugs average 0.4 inches in length. A scale drawing of a ladybug will be made using a scale of 10:1 (model to actual). What will the length of the ladybug be in the drawing? Scale Actual
Similar Polygons Similar polygons have the same shape but not necessarily the same size. They are, however, proportional.
Find the missing length using proportions 30 45 25 n
Find the missing side 15 37.5 30 y
