LWD provides real-time formation measurements during drilling to improve decision making. It reveals the nature of rock formations and identifies potential hydrocarbon locations. Resistivity, lithology, and porosity data acquired through LWD allows geologists to evaluate the formation before damage or invasion occurs. The measurements help geologists select casing points and detect and quantify zones of fluid in real-time. New IWD measurements detect fractures and dip. Integrating real-time drilling data with 3D seismic provides operators a clearer understanding of the well within the reservoir to make better decisions and reduce risk in complex or unknown areas.

Underwater drilling towers consist of semi-submerged oil platforms anchored to the ocean floor that produce around 25% of the world's oil. The towers suspend and rotate drill pipes with drills at the end to penetrate the earth's crust, adding pipe sections as it drills deeper. Underwater drilling is another method to increase oil production from existing fields. Drilling rigs are installed on offshore platforms located far from the coast in waters up to several hundred meters deep. These platforms can float or rest on piles anchored to the seabed and withstand waves, wind, and ice in Arctic regions to enable drilling under the sea.

Steam injection is used to extract highly viscous oils by injecting steam into reservoirs to both displace oil and greatly reduce viscosity, allowing oil to flow faster. This technique has been widely used in California, the United States, and Venezuela to recover large deposits of viscous oil. Experiments are also testing steam injection on large accumulations of viscous bitumen in Alberta, Canada and Venezuela to potentially extend the oil era.

Water injection involves pumping water into some wells in an oil field to maintain reservoir pressure and increase crude production rates. By physically displacing oil, water injection can increase recovery efficiency up to 60% or more of existing oil in uniform reservoirs with low clay content. First used accidentally in Pennsylvania oil fields in the late 1800s, water injection has since spread worldwide as a method to boost oil recovery from mature fields.

This is a workshop about communication and collaboration. We will experience how we can analyze the reasons for resistance to change (exercise 1) and practice how to improve our conversation style and be more in control and effective in the way we communicate (exercise 2).
This session will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
Abstract:
Let’s talk about powerful conversations! We all know how to lead a constructive conversation, right? Then why is it so difficult to have those conversations with people at work, especially those in powerful positions that show resistance to change?
Learning to control and direct conversations takes understanding and practice.
We can combine our innate empathy with our analytical skills to gain a deeper understanding of complex situations at work. Join this session to learn how to prepare for difficult conversations and how to improve our agile conversations in order to be more influential without power. We will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
In the session you will experience how preparing and reflecting on your conversation can help you be more influential at work. You will learn how to communicate more effectively with the people needed to achieve positive change. You will leave with a self-revised version of a difficult conversation and a practical model to use when you get back to work.

- 1. LWD - A CLEARER VISION OF THE FORMATIONS Simultaneous drilling and logging improves the drilling operator's ability to make effective decisions in real time in the critical phase of drilling. The LWD (Logging While Drilling) measurements reveal the nature of the perforated rock formations and identify the probable location of the hydrocarbons. Real-time formation resistivity, information on lithology and porosity acquired during drilling allows geologists to evaluate and visualize the formation around the well, before damage to the formation occurs or a mud invasion is caused . The LWD measurements allow the geologist to select the points to lower the casing and, detect and quantify the potential zones when they are intercepted, and identify the limits of the fluid in real time while drilling. The new measurements of image and perforation (IWD) make possible the detection of the fracture and the determination of the dip. Real-time drilling and profiling data can be integrated into the workstations with 3D seismic data. This clearer view of the well and its position within the reservoir gives the operator a source of information that improves decision making as drilling progresses, reducing risk in areas that are geologically complex or not well known.
