Through this session, The Nielsen Company is going to share an easy tool that companies could use to conduct research without being dependant on other parties. Emerging Trends and Opportunities in ICT by Victor Lim, Vice President, Asia/Pacific Consulting Operations, IDC IDC recently concluded a project sponsored by MDeC to identify 15 emerging trends or opportunity areas that are attractive to MSC Malaysia companies. The areas were selected after careful analysis and investigation from a starting laundry list of over 100 areas. These emerging opportunities range from areas in general IT to Shared Services and Outsourcing and to Creative Multimedia and Content. The study is focused on practical business opportunities that MSC Malaysia companies could participate and will not touch on futuristic “Star Trek” areas which although interesting, are of limited business value at the moment. The opportunities were selected based on practical factors such as Malaysia’s current position, MSC Malaysia company capabilities, market growth, trends, etc. The focus of the presentation will be to share a summarized view of each of the 15 areas with the audience, describing the trend that is occurring, the emerging opportunity and the potential for MSC Malaysia to capture. Expanding Your Market Overseas As Malaysia begins to position itself strategically in the knowledge-based economy, the services sector has been earmarked as its next engine of growth which then saw the birth of the Multimedia Super Corridor initiative in 1996. Many local Technopreneurs took up the challenge of creating ICT businesses with several achieving significant success including listing on stock exchanges from Bursa Malaysia to Singapore Exchange and even the Alternative Investment Market in London. Despite this only a few have been able to create successful companies beyond the shores of Malaysia. Globalization presents us with both opportunities as well as threats. Local Technopreneurs will need to quickly open up to the foreign market and compete on global standards. However, to venture abroad companies face extreme competition and in view of limited budgets and time/resources constraints, the companies also do not have proper access to the channels that can help them to open doors. These companies are also very often unprepared to export or have a foreign presence especially in relation to operational readiness, marketing strategies or adequate protection of their IP prior to venturing abroad resulting in poor performance and reception to their services and products. 5. Innovating Success: The Story of….. While most may think of innovation in the likes of product and technology, we observed that the featured companies have demonstrated innovativeness beyond that. It is hope that this topic would open-up the audiences’ mindset on what being innovative is all about and along the way help them identify some ideas on the different aspects of innovativeness that they could introduce in their business. Its clients include Nielsen, TNS, Gartner and Universal McCann. Besides conducting online research, Pulse also does telephone interviews and focus group discussions. The Story of P1 by Mohamad Idham Nawawi, COO, P1 WiMAX Today P1 is at the global forefront of commercial WIMAX deployment of 802.16e 2.3GHz WiMAX network, outside Korea. P1 is also the first Intel-invested WiMAX telco in Southeast Asia. At its launch in 2008, P1 earned the accolade of being Malaysia’s first WiMAX telco. In the same year, P1 was listed in Red Herring’s Asias top 100 most-prominent private technology ventures for 2008. As it stands, P1 currently possess the largest subscriber base and the largest WiMAX network in Malaysia. Peeling the Government 2.0 Onion: The Government as a Data Source Gov.Data.Online – Case Scenario by UnReason and partners Target Audience Technopreneurs at all stages and the third sector who are interested in delivering the promise of Data.gov.my. Length of Session 3 hours Format A workshop/brainstorm styled session starting with a group of panel speaker s which will dissect the concept of Data.gov.my and how it will contribute to the industry and society at large. Technopreneurs will then be encouraged to come up with working solutions collectively, in groups, towards these public/social causes that complement initiatives undertaken by the Government .It would provide a preliminary round of getting ideas that is driven by the technopreneur community and hopefully gauge on the interest of civil servants (where applicable).
