“Dear SAP Higher Education & Research Community:
This briefing document provides a high-level summary of some of our recent, ongoing, and planned investments in
innovations for Higher Education & Research, and specifically for the SAP Student Lifecycle Management application. To
help institutions meet current and future expectations – and compete successfully for students and funding – we design and
enhance our industry solutions with an emphasis on simplicity and flexibility. Our next-generation solutions focus on
analytics, experience management, and user-centric support for information management to address new business and
educational models and make higher education more affordable.
We expect our investments in higher education to provide innovative solutions that give institutions multiple options for
implementation. Rather than ask institutions to rip and replace current systems (with the added cost and risk that this
methodology can entail), we plan to deliver a series of flexible and discrete applications that institutions can combine to meet
their needs. Our commitment to a comprehensive investment and delivery strategy remains consistent. We plan to provide
solutions for on-premise, managed and private clouds, and public cloud environments. Stay tuned for more updates soon.
Thank you. I hope the information is helpful. ”

SAP S/4HANA and SAP Student Lifecycle Management
▪ The current SAP Student Lifecycle Management application remains our primary student information system
(SIS) offering. It is also available in SAP S/4HANA and will be supported and maintained beyond 2025. It will
continue to be available in SAP Business Suite until the end of 2025.
▪ Current SAP customers planning to move to SAP S/4HANA can integrate SAP Student Lifecycle
Management into their SAP S/4HANA stack (on premise, private cloud, and single tenant cloud).
SAP Student Lifecycle Management is available as of SAP S/4HANA 1809 with feature pack stack (FPS) 1.
It is not part of the compatibility pack as previously communicated.
▪ The SAP Student Lifecycle Management for SAP S/4HANA application contains all features of the current
SAP Student Lifecycle Management application in SAP ERP Central Component (SAP ECC), including
event planning, admission portal, the My Request application, and all SAP Fiori apps. It will also use a (now
optional) optimized data model and will use features of the SAP HANA database, like core data services
(CDS) views to improve analytical and reporting capabilities.
▪ Customers using SAP Student Lifecycle Management in SAP Business Suite who plan to migrate to
SAP S/4HANA will be offered a license according to product conversion rules for SAP S/4HANA. The
new product license is 7020084: SAP Student Lifecycle Management for SAP S/4HANA.

Strategy
▪ SAP Student Lifecycle Management is an established, mature, and comprehensive SIS and a key part of the
Intelligent Enterprise.
▪ SAP has chosen to focus efforts on continually enhancing SAP Student Lifecycle Management (the
|SAP Customer Connection program in June 2019), while introducing new solutions (SAP Student Activity
Hub, for example) that address key higher education issues of today, rather than completely developing a
new core SIS product.
▪ Because SAP Student Lifecycle Management is a flexible and cloud-capable product, SAP has decided not
to build another SIS, particularly because we see the greatest institutional demand for modular solutions that
can meet specific business problems. We are focusing on the student and staff experience and using
structured and unstructured data to promote student success, retention, and institutional sustainability.
▪ The Intelligent Enterprise brings together a variety of SAP solutions and technologies, including SAP Student
Lifecycle Management, SAP Student Activity Hub, the customer experience (the SAP C/4HANA suite and
Experience Management solutions from SAP) and new digital technologies like blockchain, AI and machine
learning, and chatbots through SAP Cloud Platform.
▪ Delivery of the Intelligent Enterprise to the Higher Education & Research industry enables SAP to transform
student lifecycle management in the new digital age.
Strategy: Deliver the Intelligent Enterprise for higher education – 1/2

We have brought together elements from our existing portfolio
(SAP C/4HANA); acquired Qualtrics International, Recast, and
Contextor SAS (now part of SAP Cloud Platform); and created
new elements like SAP Student Activity Hub. Together with SAP
Student Lifecycle Management, these elements enable the
Intelligent Enterprise for higher education. SAP recognizes that
single-vendor and best-of-breed options are realistic approaches
to building an education ecosystem, and, therefore, has defined
the Intelligent Enterprise for operational flexibility within either
ecosystem.
Strategy: Deliver the Intelligent Enterprise for higher education – 2/2
Other key SAP strategy pillars recognize that most data
currently collected through form-based user interfaces will
eventually be replaced by AI agents (like robotic process
automation, or RPA) that glean the necessary information
and trigger underpinning processes automatically. SAP
recognizes that the critical human contribution is not data
entry or process work, but knowledge work to build and
strengthen relationships.
Highlights
SAP foresees that many of the transactional screens and fields
currently presented on user devices will eventually disappear, with
AI and machine learning automatically assimilating much of the
required information and triggering process steps. Although the
transactional systems today will still be needed, they will largely be
insulated from the user interface. SAP also understands that the
breadth of data that contributes to student and institutional success
is sourced from multiple vendor ecosystems and has developed
SAP Student Activity Hub to meet business needs holistically.
SAP Student Activity Hub is based on SAP HANA and
manages data from a wide range of sources to provide real-
time insight into student behavior. It also gives users an
opportunity to use predictive analytics to understand best-fit
engagement techniques and customize interactions for
student messaging. It uses data standards like CEDS and
Ram Caliper to streamline adoption and usage. Although
powered by SAP HANA and available in the cloud, SAP
Student Activity Hub is system-agnostic and will couple
effectively with any underpinning SIS.

Given that SAP S/4HANA 1809 with FPS1
was released in January 2019, is SAP
Student Lifecycle Management included?
If so, are any technical differences in
content present following the move of
SAP Student Lifecycle Management out of
the compatibility scope (the software
components in which the content of SAP
Student Lifecycle Management resides)?
FAQ on SAP Student Lifecycle Management and SAP S/4HANA – 1/7
What is the latest position regarding
licensing? Will there be any further updates
to our license agreement? Do we need to do
anything?
SAP: Yes, SAP Student Lifecycle Management was
included. The only technical and functional
difference with the latest version for SAP ECC is
that the Business Rule Framework will be replaced
by the Business Rule Framework plus (BRFplus) in
SAP S/4HANA. See SAP Student Lifecycle
Management at help.sap.com and SAP Note
2291465. A migration report on moving from the
Business Rule Framework to BRFplus for SAP
Student Lifecycle Management is available.
SAP: We have set up a new license item for SAP Student
Lifecycle Management for SAP S/4HANA. The license is
simplified with the single metric of “active registered
students.” The license structure should enable existing
customers to convert. Of course, the details must be
worked out and discussed with your local account
executive.

Are any user experience innovations planned
to complement the student-related SAP Fiori
apps that are already developed?
FAQ on SAP Student Lifecycle Management and SAP S/4HANA – 2/7
Does SAP intend to make the
simplified data model mandatory
at any stage, and if so, would it be
from a specific release level of
SAP S/4HANA?
SAP: SAP Student Lifecycle Management for
SAP S/4HANA uses the latest user experience
(UX) theme, Belize. In addition, SAP Fiori themes
are constantly enhanced with new controls and
tools that we adopt and make available in all
applications within SAP Student Lifecycle
Management. Currently, SAP has no plans for
new SAP Fiori apps on the road map. A new SAP
Customer Connection program for SAP Student
Lifecycle Management started in early June 2019,
in which enhancements to existing SAP Fiori apps
can be requested. SAP also provides SAP Screen
Personas software as a free UX improvement tool
to optimize screens, self-services, and so on in
SAP Student Lifecycle Management.
SAP: We did not make the data model mandatory. You can
currently choose to activate the new or retain the old data
model. At some point (at an as-yet undetermined date),
SAP will make the data model mandatory and potential new
innovations will be based on the optimized data model. We
strongly advise you to move to the new data model as soon
as practicable and to take advantage of the speed, flexibility
(analytics), and decoupling of table HRP1001.

Is a cloud solution available? If not,
when will it be? Is it a software-as-a-
service (SaaS) solution? Where can we
find more information?
FAQ on SAP Student Lifecycle Management and SAP S/4HANA – 3/7
Paragraph 5.10.3.1 of the feature scope
description of SAP S/4HANA offers additional
information on the scope of the SIS
compatibility pack, but event planning is not
mentioned.
▪ It is based on the training and event functionality of
the SAP ERP Human Capital Management
(SAP ERP HCM) solution, which will no longer be part
of SAP S/4HANA.
▪ In a previous road map for SAP Student Lifecycle
Management (no longer available online), optimization
of the data model for event planning (in a Wave 2) was
planned in 2017–2018.
▪ However, the optimization is not yet available. Is it still
planned? What is the future of event planning? Will
SAP continue to provide a solution within
SAP S4/HANA?
SAP: SAP Student Lifecycle
Management will be available in the
following delivery options for SAP
S/4HANA: On-premise, private cloud
(SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud or
from a partner or hyperscaler), or
SAP S/4HANA Cloud, single tenant
edition.
SAP: Event planning, including the underlying organizational
management (OM) structure, will continue to be available in SAP
S/4HANA and for SAP Student Lifecycle Management. OM is not
part of the compatibility pack and will continue to be available in
SAP S/4HANA. SAP Student Lifecycle Management objects,
including infotypes and subtypes, will continue to be available in
SAP S/4HANA. The objects include shared SAP ERP HCM
objects E and D. No plans call for optimization of event planning.

FAQ on SAP Student Lifecycle Management and SAP S/4HANA – 4/7
New data model for SAP Student Lifecycle Management
▪ Will SAP continue to support these two options?
▪ Will future developments in SAP Student Lifecycle Management support the old data model?
▪ Will there still be a Wave 2 for event planning (see above)?
SAP: Contrary to previous statements, use of the new data model is not mandatory in
SAP S/4HANA.
Universities must decide for themselves whether they wish to combine the migration to the
new data model with the upgrade to SAP S/4HANA.
▪ At present, you can choose to activate the new data model or leave the old one intact.
▪ At some point (at an as-yet undetermined date) SAP will make the data model mandatory, and potential innovations will be
based on the optimized data model.
▪ We strongly advise you to evolve to the new data model and take advantage of the speed, flexibility (analytics), and decoupling
of table HRP1001.
SAP: A cookbook is available with more information on the data model.
SAP: New enhancements related to the new data model. The new SAP Customer Connection program, for example, will be built
only upon the new data model.

We are focusing on the student and staff experience and using structured and unstructured data to promote student success, retention, and institutional sustainability. ▪ The Intelligent Enterprise brings together a variety of SAP solutions and technologies, including SAP Student Lifecycle Management, SAP Student Activity Hub, the customer experience (the SAP C/4HANA suite and Experience Management solutions from SAP) and new digital technologies like blockchain, AI and machine learning, and chatbots through SAP Cloud Platform. ▪ Delivery of the Intelligent Enterprise to the Higher Education & Research industry enables SAP to transform student lifecycle management in the new digital age. Strategy: Deliver the Intelligent Enterprise for higher education – 1/2

Together with SAP Student Lifecycle Management, these elements enable the Intelligent Enterprise for higher education. SAP recognizes that single-vendor and best-of-breed options are realistic approaches to building an education ecosystem, and, therefore, has defined the Intelligent Enterprise for operational flexibility within either ecosystem. Strategy: Deliver the Intelligent Enterprise for higher education – 2/2 Other key SAP strategy pillars recognize that most data currently collected through form-based user interfaces will eventually be replaced by AI agents (like robotic process automation, or RPA) that glean the necessary information and trigger underpinning processes automatically. SAP recognizes that the critical human contribution is not data entry or process work, but knowledge work to build and strengthen relationships. Highlights SAP foresees that many of the transactional screens and fields currently presented on user devices will eventually disappear, with AI and machine learning automatically assimilating much of the required information and triggering process steps. Although the transactional systems today will still be needed, they will largely be insulated from the user interface. SAP also understands that the breadth of data that contributes to student and institutional success is sourced from multiple vendor ecosystems and has developed SAP Student Activity Hub to meet business needs holistically. SAP Student Activity Hub is based on SAP HANA and manages data from a wide range of sources to provide real- time insight into student behavior. It also gives users an opportunity to use predictive analytics to understand best-fit engagement techniques and customize interactions for student messaging. It uses data standards like CEDS and Ram Caliper to streamline adoption and usage. Although powered by SAP HANA and available in the cloud, SAP Student Activity Hub is system-agnostic and will couple effectively with any underpinning SIS.

13 PUBLIC © 2019 SAPSE or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved. ǀ Given that SAP S/4HANA 1809 with FPS1 was released in January 2019, is SAP Student Lifecycle Management included? If so, are any technical differences in content present following the move of SAP Student Lifecycle Management out of the compatibility scope (the software components in which the content of SAP Student Lifecycle Management resides)? FAQ on SAP Student Lifecycle Management and SAP S/4HANA – 1/7 What is the latest position regarding licensing? Will there be any further updates to our license agreement? Do we need to do anything? SAP: Yes, SAP Student Lifecycle Management was included. The only technical and functional difference with the latest version for SAP ECC is that the Business Rule Framework will be replaced by the Business Rule Framework plus (BRFplus) in SAP S/4HANA. See SAP Student Lifecycle Management at help.sap.com and SAP Note 2291465. A migration report on moving from the Business Rule Framework to BRFplus for SAP Student Lifecycle Management is available. SAP: We have set up a new license item for SAP Student Lifecycle Management for SAP S/4HANA. The license is simplified with the single metric of “active registered students.” The license structure should enable existing customers to convert. Of course, the details must be worked out and discussed with your local account executive.

14 PUBLIC © 2019 SAPSE or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved. ǀ Are any user experience innovations planned to complement the student-related SAP Fiori apps that are already developed? FAQ on SAP Student Lifecycle Management and SAP S/4HANA – 2/7 Does SAP intend to make the simplified data model mandatory at any stage, and if so, would it be from a specific release level of SAP S/4HANA? SAP: SAP Student Lifecycle Management for SAP S/4HANA uses the latest user experience (UX) theme, Belize. In addition, SAP Fiori themes are constantly enhanced with new controls and tools that we adopt and make available in all applications within SAP Student Lifecycle Management. Currently, SAP has no plans for new SAP Fiori apps on the road map. A new SAP Customer Connection program for SAP Student Lifecycle Management started in early June 2019, in which enhancements to existing SAP Fiori apps can be requested. SAP also provides SAP Screen Personas software as a free UX improvement tool to optimize screens, self-services, and so on in SAP Student Lifecycle Management. SAP: We did not make the data model mandatory. You can currently choose to activate the new or retain the old data model. At some point (at an as-yet undetermined date), SAP will make the data model mandatory and potential new innovations will be based on the optimized data model. We strongly advise you to move to the new data model as soon as practicable and to take advantage of the speed, flexibility (analytics), and decoupling of table HRP1001.

Where can we find more information? FAQ on SAP Student Lifecycle Management and SAP S/4HANA – 3/7 Paragraph 5.10.3.1 of the feature scope description of SAP S/4HANA offers additional information on the scope of the SIS compatibility pack, but event planning is not mentioned. ▪ It is based on the training and event functionality of the SAP ERP Human Capital Management (SAP ERP HCM) solution, which will no longer be part of SAP S/4HANA. ▪ In a previous road map for SAP Student Lifecycle Management (no longer available online), optimization of the data model for event planning (in a Wave 2) was planned in 2017–2018. ▪ However, the optimization is not yet available. Is it still planned? What is the future of event planning? Will SAP continue to provide a solution within SAP S4/HANA? SAP: SAP Student Lifecycle Management will be available in the following delivery options for SAP S/4HANA: On-premise, private cloud (SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud or from a partner or hyperscaler), or SAP S/4HANA Cloud, single tenant edition. SAP: Event planning, including the underlying organizational management (OM) structure, will continue to be available in SAP S/4HANA and for SAP Student Lifecycle Management. OM is not part of the compatibility pack and will continue to be available in SAP S/4HANA. SAP Student Lifecycle Management objects, including infotypes and subtypes, will continue to be available in SAP S/4HANA. The objects include shared SAP ERP HCM objects E and D.
