The document provides an overview of basic electricity concepts including understanding electricity through the flow of electrons and Ohm's law. It discusses tools, materials, wiring methods, lighting, appliances and specialty wiring used in homes. Key concepts covered include voltage, current, resistance, ampacity and how to determine the proper wire gauge size for different appliances. Formulas for wattage, voltage, current and resistance are defined based on Ohm's law.
Non conservative electric field and resulting misconception in kvlG Karthik Raja
In this project, I demonstrated the invalidity of Kirchhoff's voltage law when applied to circuits having a non-conservative electric field so that the sum of all voltage drops in an electrical loop is not zero.
Moreover, the potential difference between any two points will depend on the path which has been traversed and therefore it will not be unique. I also demonstrated the same by connecting two voltmeters between same two points showing two different readings out of phase with each other.
Electrical stray current refers to the flow of electrical current via two objects due to potential difference, imbalance or wiring flaws. Small voltage difference between two grounded objects in separate location may exist because of ordinary flow of current within the power system. However, large voltage difference can be a sign of faulty condition in electrical power system. Visit (electricalride.com) for more related articles.

Preparation for hazards and respect for this powerful energy source are a must. Even seasoned electricians need reminders on the basic rules of electrical safety. Here are a few to keep in mind.
These slides include a presentation about the connections between math and electricity (Ohm's law, calculating voltage and resistance) as well as how-to slides so that you can make your own math quiz that lights a bulb to confirm when you have the correct answer. Note, the animations won't come through in this upload but for several slides I had the kids try to calculate the answers to my questions before I showed the answers.

Electricity is nothing more than an organized flow of electrons from one atom to another atom.
The Ampere or Amp Measures the rate or quantity of electrical flow. You can think of Amperes as you would think of measuring current in a river. The more current, the faster the river flows.
Wires are selected based on their Maximum Ampere Capacity This is where we get the term Ampacity
Ampacity is the amount of current a wire can safely conduct.
A 14 gauge wire can conduct a maximum of 15 amps. A 12 Gauge wire can conduct a maximum current of 10 amps and so on.
As you can see, the gauge of a wire is amaller as the number is bigger. This seemingly-counterintuitive numbering is derived from the fact that the gauge number is related to the number of drawing operations that must be used to produce a given gauge of wire; very fine wire (for example, 30 gauge) requires far more passes through the drawing dies than does 0 gauge wire.
Here are some wire dies. The wire is stretched through making it longer and thinner each pass. 12 gauge wire passes through 12 times, 20 gauge wire, 20 times.
Let’s have a quiz, which wire would you use for a 30 Amp Dryer Power Cord?

Wire Sizes are listed in the National Electrical Code
Voltage is the force behind the current. Think of voltage as the water at the top of a Dam, pushing against the dam. The more voltage, the higher the dam House Voltages are 120 and 240 volts for large appliances
Resistance is the most important part of an electrical circuit. Think of the rocks in a stream holding back it’s flow, or the dam itself holding back the water. That’s resistance Resistance is measured in ohms.
Another word for resistance is load. We consider the working part of a circuit to be the load. Common loads include motors, lights, and heaters.
Wattage is the measurement of power. Electrical power is measured in watts Watts=Current times Voltage Example a 120 watt bulb draws one amp
