Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.
Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for Designers
6 principles of design in 2019
1. The elements and principles of design are the building blocks of designing. The elements of design are
the things that create a design of anything (Logo, web, mobile app etc). The principles of design are the
laws or steps that we do with the elements of design. The success of a design depends on how we apply
the principles of design. Here, we are going to discuss the 6 principles of design in 2019 that will help us
to create a perfect design.
The elements of design
Line
The linear marks or lines are created by using a pen or brush tool and edges are created by
when two linear shapes are meet with each other.
Shape
A shape is defined as a self-contained area of geometric (circle, squares). A positive shape can
automatically create a negative shape of any design.
Direction
All lines or linear marks have directions (Horizontal, vertical, oblique).
1. Horizontal direction shows the calmness and stability.
2. Vertical direction shows or gives the feelings of balance and alertness in any design.
2. 3. Oblique direction shows or suggests the action and movement of design.
Size
Size is simply defined as an area occupied by one shape in design.
Texture
Texture elements show the quality of a shape that can be rough, smooth, soft hard glossy
etc.
Colour
Colour is a light reflection of any object in the design. Colour has three properties in designing
1. Hue
2. Value
3. Intensity
6 principles of design
3. Balance
Balance in the principle of design is similar to the balance in physics. Balance provides
stability and properly balanced structure to a design. Balance is the weight distributed in the design
equally by the placement of designing elements.
Proximity
It creates a relationship between the elements of design. Proximity provides a focal
point in the design and it doesn’t mean that you have to put together design elements. It means that
they should be connected visually with each other.
Alignment
It allows you to create order and organisation in your design. Aligning elements allows
them to create a visual connection between them.
Repetition
Repetition strengthens the design by tying the design elements with each other and
repetition also help to create association and consistency in the design. Repetition can create a feeling
of the organized movement in design.
Contrast
Contrast helps us to highlight the key or major elements of your design through colours and
positions.
Space
Space refers to the distance or area (space) between, above, below, around within the design
elements of your design. Both positive and negative space factors are important and consider to be the
main factor in every single design (graphics, logo, web, and mobile app design).
Conclusion
These are the major elements and principles of design that will help you to create a proper and perfect
design (Web, mobile app, graphics, and Logo design). Whenever you are going to create or select a
graphic design agency gold coast or web design company first you need to consider these principles
they are following are not or designs that they have created are according to these principles or not.
