Multiple Stimulus Without Replacement (MSWO)
Assessment
Procedures:
1. Remove unnecessary items from the table
2. List items on the datasheet
3. Present a horizontal array of stimuli (5-8 items) about 1 foot from the learner
4. Ask the learner to “Pick one”
5. Allow the learner to interact with the item for about 10 seconds or wait until the edible is
consumed
6. Record the learner’s selection
7. Move the item on the far left to the far right
8. Remove the selected item from the array
9. Ask the learner to “Pick one” again.
• You can present the whole array up to 10 times.
• To conduct a pre-session mini assessment, present the whole array 3 times

General Tips for MSWO
Multiple Stimulus Without Replacement (MSWO)
Assessment
Overview:
• An array of items is presented at the same time
• The item the learner selects is removed from the array after he or she interacts with it for a
few seconds
• This procedure has been shown to have:
• Good test-retest reliability, meaning that when the assessment is given twice, the two scores are highly
correlated
• MSWO is most appropriate for individuals:
• Who are higher functioning
• Who can choose from an array of 3 or more

Editor's Notes

  1. “Here are the procedures of how to conduct a multiple stimulus without replacement or WSWO assessment. First you need to present an array of stimuli, around 5 to 8 items. The items should be places in a straight line in the middle of the table, halfway between you and the learner. After presenting the array ask the learner to pick one. Once the learner picks an item, allow him or her to interact with the item for 30 seconds. Then remove the selected item from the array, present the array, and ask the learner to pick one. You can present the whole array up to 10 times in one session. To conduct a pre-session mini assessment, present the whole array 3 times.
